Use Mail Tribune. Want Ada just happen. It isn't a joy-ride on a matrimonial roller-coaster, with a thrill a minute guaran teed or your money back. It isn't all sunshine, nor all shadow. It is a trip-for-two, carefully planned, with baggage, exper iences, inconveniences, and fun to be shared by both travelers on one ticket. Like many long trips, it sometimes includes difficulties and u'nforseen problems, but you enjoy it anyway because there are two of you, TOGETHER. Greta Millikan, wife of the late Dr. Robert A. . Millikan, of cosmic ray fame, once said, "It is easy to GET married. It is far more difficult to STAY married, happily. A woman's job at being a success begins the day of her wedding and continues with in creasing need through the years: she must be worth loving to make her marriage worthwhile." Successful marriage is based upon the will to cooperate, to live on future hopes rather than past antagonisms, to feel with and for the well-being of the. partner. A good marriage is founded upon both sex and friendship. Here at the American Institute of Family Relations, we urge the many who come to us for coun seling to ask themselves: 1. Do I do all I can to increase my partner's powers and sense of worth? '2. Do I complement his strength and compensate his weakness? 3. Do I make an honest effort to see at least two sides to the problems and to share responsi bility? 4. Do I try to be the sort of person he, or she, admires; to grow and to retain emotional al ertness? 5. Do I enjoy being married and tell my partner so? 6. Do I think life is predom inately good and keep the chin up even when the going is rough. 7. Am I responsive to the world, and especially to my part ner and his or her needs, before my own? 8. Am I honestly worth com ing home to and loving?
