WATSON Shady Cove-Trail Mrs. Dick Bartuss and Mrs. Ole Hornseth of Shady Cove were co-hostesses for a pink and blue shower May 17 at the Bartuss home on Rogue River dr. Shady Cove, honoring Mrs. Chet Pfluke of Medford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Segessenman of Shady Cove. Mrs. Pflake receiv ed many gifts for her baby daughter, Jeanne Marie. Guests included Mesdames Jim Hopkins, Ed Houston, Joe. Waltz, Gene Weitman, Ed Learn ing, Dean Chamberlain, Frank Cook, Ray Chubb, Arnold Win slow, Bill Leekey, Isabelle Wun derlich, , Harry Goode, Ray Briggs, Carroll Watson, Athel Dudley, Tom Quail, Pearl Adair, and O. L. Williams of Shady Cove; Alma Mallery, Harry Casebier, Roy Anderson, Irwin Howe, and Fred Morgan of Trail; and Frances Pearson and Ray Maurer of Prospect. Mrs. Bobbie Wade of Long Beach, Calif., is a house guest of Mr. and Mrs. Tay Tucker of Trail. Jack Hughes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Hughes of the Shady Cove Locker plant, is ex pected home for a vacation about May 18 from Los Angeles where he is attending Woodbury col lege majoring in art. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bartuss of Shady Cove were dinner guests on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Holmes and family of Eagle Point. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Turner of Trail have returned from a trip to Tacoma, Wash., where ' they visited with Mrs. Turner's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. G. G. Ristow. While there they went oyster digging on the Ristow property and brought a good sup ply home. On the trip back they stopped in Portland and visited Our Lady of Sorrows Grotto and Lambert Gardens. Members of ,the club are now working to secure a plaque and are sponsor ing a smorgasbord dinner for Saturday, May 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. the Civic club in Ashland. The affair is open to the public. Mrs. Curt Mason and daugh ter, Miss Georgia Mason, were hostesses for a pink and blue shower held at the Mason home in Shady Cove May 10 honoring Mrs. Mason's sister, Mrs. Bill Han. Present were Mesdames Leonard Peterson, Floyd Mof fatt. Bud Anderson, Jack Daines, C. A. Andrus, Evertt Elrod and Robert Peck of Trail; Ralph Barr, Daun Chaney, Dennis Mason, Ernest Heaton of Shady Cove and Mickey Geary and Jerry Devey of Eagle Point. Also present was Mrs. Mason's sister, Mrs. Carl Chisum, and small daughter from Mountain Home, Id., who are visiting the Mason family. Gifts were sent by Mes dames Theron Mason and George Otis of Shady Cove and Charlie McCann of Trail who were un able to attend. A group of Shady Cove ladies interested in flowers made the rounds of the iris gardens in Medford and Jacksonville May 17. Those taking the trip were Mesdames Floyd Kelley, O. L. Williams, Kenneth Paulson and Pearl Adair. , The Shady Cove Home Exten sion unit held a potluck luncheon and meeting at the home of Mrs. Ed Houston of Shady Cove on Tuesday, May 15, with 18 mem bers and a guest, Mrs. Lowery of Shady Cove, attending. The project, garment finishing, was given by Mrs. Travis Littlefield and Mrs. Isabelle Wunderlich, Newly elected officers are, chair man, Mrs. Chas. Brewer, vice chairman, Mrs. William Shetv herd; secretary, Mrs. Richard Pfeifer; treasurer, Mrs. Frank Selto of Trail. Jim Cassal of Trail is ill at home but may receive visitors. He is considerably improved. 4 Mr. and Mss. E. K. Robbins of Springfield, 111.; are house guests of Mrs. Robbin's sister and fam ily, Mr.' and Mrs. Russell Stelle of Shady Cove. , Mrs. Catherine Craig of Oiai. Calif., is here at her summer cot tage near the Tom Kines. With Mrs. Craig is her step-daughter, Miss Ivy Craig, missionary from soutnern Khodesia, Africa. The Shady Cove Garden club met May 14 at the home of Mrs. Verne Wilson of Shady Cove. A workshop on flower arrange ments was held in the morning with a talk and demonstration in the afternoon eiven bv Mrs. William Shepherd. Arrange ments were made by members. Guests present were Mesdames Adeline Carl, Ted Daw, Peter Vachon, all of Shady Cove, and Joyce Drew of Medford. New of ficers elected were Dresident. Mrs. Edwin Strother; vice pres ident, Mrs. Richard Pfeifer; treasurer, Mrs. Tom Tepper; sec retary, Mrs. Verne Wilson. Elect ed as delegates to the state con vention were Mrs. Edwin Stro ther and Mrs. Shepherd. The club will hold a flower show at the VFW hall on Saturday, June 2. Mrs. Adeline Carl of Shady Cove spent the weekend visiting with her friends, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Northrup of Wimer. On Mother's Day at the evening service of St. Martin's Episcopal church in Shady Cove David Vin cent, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Vincent of Shady Cove, was bap tized by the Rev. Bob Greene of Church of the Good Shepherd, Prospect, and Miss Eda Larson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dolf Larson of Shady Cove, was con firmed by Bishop Beniamin Das- well of Portland. Bishop Dag well gave a short sprmnn anH talk on Confirmation. The Rev. Gorge Bolster and the Rev. Rob ert Burger, of St. Mark's, Med ford, were also present. Refresh ments were served after the serv ice by the guild. Godparents for David Vincent were Mr. anrl Mrs John Fleeger of Medfrod. God mother for Eda Larson was Mrs. Clara Thurman of Shady Cove. Also present from Seattle,,Wash., were Eda's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. George Story, and an other aunt, Mrs. Pat McFadden of Grants Pass. Mrs. Pearl Adair of Shady Cove spent the weekend visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Alworth of Medford. Miss Elizabeth Sorenson of Tulsa, Oik., was a recent house guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. Mykle bye of Trail. Mrs. Dimmick of Medford spent several days visiting with her granddaughter, Mrs. Garth Ross of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur McGil vary and children, Kathy, Janice and Gary of Del Rio, Calif., spent the weekend visiting with Mc Gilvray's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Paulson of Shady Cove. Mrs. Ralph Lane of Shady Cove has gone to San Diego to visit with her son, Vernon Bald win who is in training there. She expects to visit with friends and relatives in San Luis Obispo and Harbor City, Calif. Newcomers to Shady Cove are Mr. and Mrs. C. L. McGuire and children, Michael, Eddie and Civil Service Position Examinations Open Civil service examinations for account auditor and engineering aid positions in the federal serv ice have recently been opened for the acceptance of applica tions, John M. Young, regional director of the 11th U. S. Civil Service region announced today. The salaries of the account and auditor positions are from S4, 525 to $6,390 per year, and for the engineering aid positions from 52,960 to $4,525 per year. Information as to qualifica tions required and how and where to apply for these jobs can be secured from the local Post Office or from Young' Of fice at 302 Federal Office build ing, Seattle 4, Wash. Young said. The eolor variations of dol phin are so great that no two are alike. Suzanne of El Paso, Tex., who are staying in a trailer parked at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Buster Akins. Mrs. McGuire and Mrs. Akins are sisters. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chubb and Mr. and Mrs. Athel Dudley made a trip to . Roseburg' recently where they visited with Mr. Dud ley's brother, Clarence Dudley, and his daughter, Lila. Mr and Mrs. Elbert Hubbell of Gaum are visiting with Mr. Hubbell's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Hubbell of Trail, and were here for Mothers day as was the Hubbell's daughter, Mrs. Frank Selto and family of Trail. The Hubbell also received long dis tance calls from their other four children on Mothers day, from Philadelphia, Chicago and North Dakota. Women of this area who at tended the style show sponsored by the Ladies Guild of the Church of the Good Shepherd at Prospect were Mesdames Del bert Spain, Ray Mullen, Jim Hopkins, Ray Chubb, Dale Saw yer, Ben Nork, Adeline Carl, Pearl Adair, and Floyd Kelley, all of Shady Cove and Irwin Howe of Trail. Members of the Shady Cove- Trail Lady Lions attending the dinner for the state officers held at the Teen-Age club at Eagle Point were Mesdames Harry Goode, Gus Olsen, Athel Dud ley, Tom Quail, Earl Shepherd, Delbert Spain, Frank Fagalde, Don Harmon, O. L. Williams and Ray Mullen of Shady Cove and Everett Elrod of Trail. Guests were Mrs. Ruth Sanford Miss Ann Sanford and Mrs. Kay Zim merlee. Miss Sanford sang sev eral numbers accompanied by Mrs. Zimmerlee. Edwin Norris and sons, David and Jonathan, of Paradise, Calif., have been visiting with their relatives, Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Lewellen and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Keil of Shady Cove.
