Named Harvey Layne Mar tin, Abilene Christian college senior from Medford, has been named a candidate for the bach elor of science degree, to be con ferred May 28 in ACC com mencement. A 1951 graduate of Medford high school, Harvey is a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. O. Martin, 829 Bennett st. Trash Burned City firemen who took the rural pumper to check the report of a fire about 8:10 p.m. yesterday in the 400 block on Chestnut street, found the owner of the property to be burning a pile of trash. They al lowed him to complete the burn ing. a Visit In Medford Mr. and Mrs. Carl Crystal, Compton, Calif., former Medford residents, are spending : a few days here and are staying at the Medford hotel. The Crystals, who were married here 53 years ago, are attempting to locate Medford friends with whom they have lost contact in recent years. To Install Officers -The Chin Up club will install officers for the fiscal year at their semi monthly meeting at Girls Com munity club, 229 North Bartlett St., Friday at 8 p. m. Plans will be' completed for the club's antique show, to be held at the Jackson hotel on June 1 and 2, according to Mrs. Gordon Bow man, outgoing president. Mercy Flight Two Camp Vf h i t e Domiciliary members, John W. McCall and Charles Eek, were flown to Portland for treatment at the Veterans Ad ministration hospital yesterday. The trip was made in a Merev Flights, Inc., air ambulance, and the men were the 485th and 486th patients carried bv the non-profit corporation's planes. Assumed Name John C. Miss Molly Ray Dies In Medford Today Ruch Miss Molly Ray, about 75, daughter of a pioneer fam ily, died this morning at a Med ford rest home. She had been hospitalized for about six months: . She was the daughter of Wil liam and Mary Louisa Ray and she lived her entire life in the family home where she was born, about a mile from Ruch on the Applegate river. Though no immediate rela tives survive she is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Frances Mee of Medford, and Mrs. Ed Kubli, of the.. Applegate, and other rela tives' in the area. Miss Ray was active in civic events of her vicinity, did home extension work and was a member of Jack sonville Garden club. Moeller, son of Mr. and Mrs. . Henry A. Moeller, route 3, box 82, Medford, com pleted recruit training May 12, at the Naval Training center, San Diego, Calif. In nine weeks of instruction Moeller has been developed from a recruit into a Navy bluejacket ready for duty with the fleet. ON SUBMARINE Bernal A. Stevens, seaman ap prentice, USN, son of Mr., and Mrs. Andrew E. Stevens of 5055 Pacific highway, Medford, is serving aboard the submarine USS Sabalo, based at Pearl Har bor, T.H.. Stevens reported for duty April 5, from the Naval submarine school. New London, Conn. Before entering the Navy in August, 1955, he graduated from Phoenix High school. ON CARRIER Kenneth L. Meyrs, airman ap prentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Myers, of 1101 Woodrow Lane, reported aboard the Pacific fleet attack aircraft carrier USS Hornet in April. The Hornet is undergoing a seven month overnaui at ine Puget Sound Naval shipyard, Bremerton, Wash. FINISHES TRAINING Ronald A. Nelson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob A. Nelson, ZSs Buckshot rd., completed re cruit training May 12, at the Naval Training center, San Diego, Calif. In nine weeks of instruction Nelson has been de veloped from a recruit into a Navy bluejacket, ready for duty with the fleet. Nelson is the hus band of the former Miss Elaine G. Davison of Eagle Point. TO COMPLETE COURSE J. Wayne Morrison, 'grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John Hubley of Kodiak, Alaska, and husband of the former Miss .Karen P. Kessler of Medford, is scheduled to complete recruit training at the Marine. Corps Recruit depot, San Diego, Calif. Before entering the service he attended Southern Oregon College of Education. Upon com pletion of training, the new Ma rines are either assigned to a unit for further infantry train ing, or to a Marine corps scnooi. WINS AWARD George A. Goodman, a private first class in the Army, son of Mr. and Mrs. George. W. Good man, 212 Valley View dr., re cently won an award on an essay entitled, "My Stake in the Amer ican Way," at Ft. Sam Houston, Tex. He is an instructor with the 250th general hospital detach ment, and entered .the Army in April, 1955. He completed basic training at Ft. Ord, Calif., and the 23-year-old soldier was . grad uated from Oregon State college in - 1954. - He is a member of Sigma Phi - Epsilon,, i Phi :Eta Sigma, Kappa Delta. Pi and. Other Improvemen Ordinances authorizing pav ing, sanitary sewer, and water main projects were adopted by the Medford city council last night. ' Ordinances .adopted authoriz ed paying North Keene Way dr. from. Jackson st. to; Oregon ave.; East Second st. from Front st. to Central ave.; and Whit man st. from- Holmes st. to Gar field st. The council ; also accepted a petition for paving West 12th st. from Fir st, to the Southern Pacific tracks. Property owners submitted : a petition suggesting that interested parties deposit with the city ; an amount equal to the .cost of the paving and .that the city prepare plans and specifications at the expense of the property owners. The council "will consider adopt ing of plans and specifications for the project later. , Publie Hearings Set Public hearings were called June 5 for paving Kenwood ave. from Humphrey st. to West Second' st; Broad st from Clark st. to Jackson st.; and Board man st. from "Ohio st. to McAn drews rd.
