How long should a married
career woman absent herself

of giving birth to a child? There
seems to be a wide difference
of opinion as to this. Some wom
en have worked up to a day or
so before the birth and returned
to the office a week or so after
Two-thirds of the policewomen
on the New York City force are
married. They are permitted to
take as much as 18 months ma
ternity leave. It is believed by
many experts on child rearing
that during the first months of
an infant's life the mother
should always be near at hand
That to leave a baby too long

Benson said that by vetoing
the bill Mr. Eisenhower "did
not lose . . . any support in the
corn belt or in the farm belt."
Instead, he said, "I think it in
creased support for the administration."
Benson said in a television

farmers that some have indi

Air Force Secretary Donald
A. Quarles personally restored
Hatkin to a "non-sensitive posi
tion" with the government. Hat
kin, suspended 74 months as a
security risk, recently revealed
that a Russian Embassy clerk
tried to hire him to dig up secret
military information.
Hatkin's attorney, Joseph
Freehill, said Quarles told him
a letter restoring Hatkin to the
federal payroll will be mailed
today and probably will be re
ceived tomorrow. He said Hat
kin will go back to work im
mediately thereafter.

Underground Posting Leaflets in Cyprus
Nicosia, Cyprus (U.R) The
Cyprus underground has mark
ed British Gov. Sir John Hard

Leaflets tacked on Nicosia
walls declared, "the man who
shoots Harding will have his
name written on a golden scroll."
The leaflets were similar to
those which announced that the
underground had hanged two
British soldier hostages in re
venge for the British execution
of two Cypriot gunmen. '

EOKA underground offered to
produce the identity cards of
two British soldiers to prove
