J t nTh ;OUk mP i ' The itaif of the Jacksonville High school year book held a banquet at Mon Desir Dining inn Thursday evening. Twenty-four students and the advisor. Carl Totman, attended the event which marked the end of the year's activities for the staff. The book, which will contain 46 pages this year, is to be delivered soon by the publishers. Pictures of the banquet were taken Rebekahs Make Recommendations On Lodge Offices Mrs. Fred Daugherty has been recommended by Olive Rebekah lodge members for deputy pres ident, and alternates for the of fice are Mrs. Iva Walden, Mrs Dollie Love, Mrs. Clara Frank lin and Mrs. Minnie Bryant. The recommendations were made at a meeting Monday evening, when Mrs. Donald Ivie was in stalled as conductress by the deputy president, Mrs. Riley Ap- pelgate. Other recommendations are to rthe degree of chivalry of the lodge and named were Mrs. Mar garet Davis and Mrs. Lora Strahan. Plans now are being made to attend a state Rebekah assembly to be held soon in Tillamook. Mrs. Frank Chapman, Mrs. Lewis Thompson and Mrs. A. H. Gregory are among those who plan to attend. A gift of money was sent re cently to aid in bringing a Re bekah member from the Nether lands and the group voted last week to sponsor the Theta Rho elub. Mrs. Bryan Newton, a member of the local lodge, but now living in Portland, attended the meeting. Other visitors were Mrs. Jo delle Hargin, Tulare, Calif.; Mrs. Emma Pomeroy, San Diego, .Calif , and Mrs. Lois Pastor, Tiialitan. Initiated into the lodge at the meeting were Mrs. Jane Chili cothe, Mrs. Sadie Squires, Mrs. Forest Sample, Mrs. Carmen Melton, Mrs. Richard Wilson and Mrs. Melvin Thomassen. A rummage sale is planned. Refreshments were served by Mrs. W. H. Dyer, Mrs. James Fleming, Mrs. Harry Bryant, Mrs. Franklin, Mrs. Alice Smith and Mrs. Brummond. Study Group Ends Program for Year . Jackson Study group met May i at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Johnson, 421 North Columbus ve. This was the last meeting of the school year and was a cov ered dish luncheon served in the garden. About 15 members were pres ent with guests attending from Other school districts. Miss Dorothy Huskey, health educator of Jackson County Health department, was guest speaker. A short summary of past meet 4ngs was given and Mrs. John "Schroeder, Study Group chair man, announced that the Jack ion School Study Group will tart meeting again in Septem ber. Btst liked by millions Orchestra Is Member Of League The Philharmonic Society of Southern Oregon is now a mem ber of the American Symphony Orchestra league, according to word received by Richard D. Werner, conductor of the local symphony orchestra. The Phil harmonic Society recently pre sented its third and final con cert of the season at the Medford High school auditorium. The American Symphony Or chestra league, with headquart ers is in Charleston, W. Va., has a membership of some 200 sym phony orchestras throughout the United States, including such famous ones as the Boston Sym phony, the New York Philhar monic, the San Francisco Sym phony, Los Angeles Philharmon ic, St. Louis Symphony, and the Chicago Symphony. The aim of the orchestra league is to encourage and guide symphony orchestras wherever formed. It sponsors various serv ice programs, including arts festivals and councils, confer ences, and workshop programs of numerous types. Included on the league's impressive calendar for 1956 is a western conference of orchestras to be held in Calif ornia this summer. The American Symphony Or chestra leagus was formed to meet the notable upsurge of in terest shown in symphonic music all over the United States and Canada in recent years. A letter from the league states that the organization is happy to welcome the Philharmonic Society of Southern Oregon into league membership. Medford Woman On Club Program; Officers Elected Eagle Point Mrs. W, L. Wal den of Medford was guest of honor at the last meeting of Eagle Point Federated Garden Club and gave demonstrations in Corsage making Officers for the ensuing year are Mrs. Glenn Clymer, pres ident; Mrs. Bill Wattenburg, vice president; Mrs. John Carnes, sec retary; Mrs. Earle Jossy, treas urer; Mrs. Ted Flury, 'historian. Officers will be installed at a meeting in the Westerburg Rose Garden June 6 Mrs. Ira Fitzgerald and Mrs. Glenn Clymer are deligates to the State Convention of Garden Clubs at Ontario. Prizes were won by Mrs. Cliff Green and Mrs. Ira Fitzgerald.. The club plans an iris show for the near future. Mrs. Charles Cushman, was hostess, assisted by Mrs. Ray Harnish. Mrs. George Rode Named President Of School Club Griffin Creek Mrs. George Rode was elected president of the Griffin Creek School club at elections held recently at the school. Retiring president is Mrs. Richard Krois Other officers elected to serve for the next year are Mrs. Wil- 1 1 a m Bracker, vice-president; Mrs. Donald Minor, secrestary; Mrs. Edith Arnold, treasurer. Mrs. William Bracker is re tiring secretafy and Mrs. Joseph Cosad, retiring treasurer. Chairman for the past year have been Mrs. Lyle Heideman, transportation; Mrs. Hardy Max- son, hospitality; Mrs. Monroe Walker, publicity; Mrs. Donald Minear, welfare; Mrs. Thomas Helman, room mothers; Mr. and Mrs. George Rode, programs; Mrs. Joe Killingsworth, organ ization sponsor. The nominating committee was made up of Mrs. Robert Minear, chairman; Mrs. Floyd Robinson, Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Dewey Rawlings, and Mrs Randy Hugdahl. James Walker, Sam Harbison and Mrs. Roy Sanders, members of the school board, gave reports to the group. Steve Whipple, music instructor, and students at the school, presented a pro gram. Refreshments were served by mothers of first and second grade students.
