The girls were introduced at the annual ball which tradi tionally opens the festival activities. Candidates were selected by the board of governors of Phoenix Community club. The contestants are Miss Pat Adams, Miss Dorothy Bean, Miss Jane Daniels, Miss Charlotte Keene and Mis Sandra Owens. Miss Adams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan H. Adams, 610 North Main street, is 17 and has attended Phoenix schools since the second grade. She is interested in sports, is a member of the Pep club. Future Homemakers of America, National Honor society, the school chorus, the Triple trio, Mask club and is secretary of the senior class. , Miss Bean, 16, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bean 2194 Houston road. She is a junior in Phoenix High school, is a member of Future Homemakers of America, Pep club, Mask club,' works on the year book staff, is a member of girls chorus, of the student body council and National Honor society. Miss Bean likes classical music and wants to study nursing. Miss Daniels, 19, lives at Route 1,. Box 354A, Medford. Her main interests are cooking and music and she wants a business career. She sings in the school chorus, is a member of Triple Trio, International Order of Job's Daughters, and the Civil Air Patrol. Miss Daniels' parents are Mrs. Adella Paul and Ray Daniels, both Medford, Miss Charlotte Keene, 17, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Keene, 142 Glenwood road, Medford. She is a junior in Phoenix High school, sings with the chorus, is a member of Phoe nicians, and of the Pep club. Miss Keene plans a career as a sec retary. Miss Owens, 18, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe S. Owens, Route 1, Box 346, Talent A senior in high school, Miss Owens is editor of the school paper, president of Phoenix chapter. Future Homemakers of America and is active in dramatics and music. She is . moderator of Westminster fellowship and sings in the Phoenix Presbyterian church choir. She is a member of In ternational Order of Job's Daughters, Ashland, and plans to attend Whitworth college, Spokane, after graduation. Couple Weds In Gold Hill Gold Hill The. wedding of Joyce Rosecrans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Rosecrans of Galls Creek, to Norman Bennett of Kirkland, Ariz., took place at Gold Hill Methodist Community church Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m. The Rev. H. A. Dierdorff of ficiated at the double ring cer emony. Mr. Rosecrans gave his daughter in marriage. The bride wore a ballerina length white satin gown with a finger tip veil and carried a gardenia corsage. Miss Janyce Rosecrans, twin sister of the bride, was her only attendant. She wore a deep pink satin gown and carried a white corsage edged in pink. The bride's moth er wore a figured nylon dress. Claude Morgan was Mr. Ben nett's best man, and William Rosecrans Jr., the bride's broth er, was usher. Mrs. Grace Bruce played the wedding march and Mrs. Nor man Gail sang, with Mrs. Bruce accompanying her. The church was decorated with pink and white bouquets of tamarix and spirea. A bouquet of pink dogwood and tall pink candles decorated the piano. Mrs. J. A. Kofahl and Mrs. Mil lie Walker arranged the decora tions. The reception was held in the church dining room. The wed ding cake, baked by Mrs. Joe Morgan and decorated by Mrs. Joe Morgan Jr. was served by Mrs. Dan Dollarhide. Mrs. Claude Morgan served the punch. Miss Daisy Rosecrans took charge of the presents, and' Miss Jackie Wright the gifts. Out-of-town guests at the wed ding were Mr. and Mrs. James A. Woody, grandparents of the bride from Springfield, Ore.; Mr. and Mrs.' Preston Bennett and family, Selma, Ore., and Mrs. Dan Dollarhide, Ashland. The newlyweds traveled to California for a short honey moon. Upon their return Mrs. Bennett will resume her studies at the Crater High school and Mr. Bennett 'will return to Navy duty. 1 Visit Parents Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bauer and sons, Mike and Paul, 1522 Ter race drive, are spending the week end in Corvallis and Port land with their parents. W-' ft Miss Jane Daniels Miss Charlotte Keene Miss Sandra Owens Medford Couple To Be Married In Autumn Rites Announcement is made of the engagement of . Miss Eleanor Bragg, daughter of Lawrence D. Bragg, Glenview orchard, and the late Mrs. Bragg, to Thomas Spatz, son of Mrs. Maurice Spatz, 20 North Groveland avenue, and the late Mr. Spatz. The wedding Is planned for fall. Miss Bragg is a graduate of Medford High school and attend ed Pomona college, Claremont, Calif. In June of 1955 she re ceived her bachelor of science degree from Northwestern uni versity, Evanston, 111. She was on the staff of the Evanston hos pital for a time and for the past few months has been on the staff of Sacred Heart hospital here. Mr. Spatz was graduated from San Rafael Military academy in California and the University of Oregon, receiving a bachelor of science degree from the univer sity in 1954. He is a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity. For the past two years he has been associated with Crystal Springs orchards as superintendent. Altar Society Tea Planned Today at John Boyle Home An important event of the week end is the silver tea and style show to be given this afternoon by members of St. Ann's Altar society of Sacred Heart Catholic church. It will be held at the home of Mrs. John C. Boyle,' Ross lane, between two and four o'clock. Money earned by the event Couple Married In Reno Church Mr. and Mrs. Keith Ayres are living at 229 North Ivy street following their wedding May 7 at the Presbyterian church in Reno, Nev. The bride is the for mer Miss-Joyce Reeves, a daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cant erbury, Rogue River. She attend ed schools in Rogue River and was employed at Medford branch, First National bank as head bookkeeper. The bridegroom, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Ayres of 3434 Ta ble Rock road, Medford, attend ed Medford schools. He is a state employee. The ceremony was read at 7 o'clock in the evening. Attend ing the couple were the bride's parents. The bride wore a white silk suit' with pink accessories and her corsage was a purple orchid. Annual Meeting Planned by Board The annual meeting of the board of Medford Junior Service league kindergarten for the deaf has been called for Thursday, May 17 at 8 p.m., at Hedrick Junior high school cafetorium. The program will include a film, "Thursday's Children," and the public is' invited. A full attendance of league members is expected. ' will go into a fund-to build a new parish hall. The present hall is now old and inadequate to meet the need of the parish, it is stated. , Mrs. Charles Thompson is gen eral dhairman for the tea, and is being assisted by many mem bers of the society. Pouring this afternoon will Be Mrs. J. C. Miller, president of the society, Mrs. Herbert E. Seitz, Mrs. W. W. Stevenson and Mrs. A. W. Adams. Mrs. Everett Gosch will take charge of the guest book and serving as hostesses will be -Mrs. Paul Haviland, Mrs. R. R. Par sons, Mrs. W. J. Callahan and Mrs. W. F. Cowning. Mrs. Cown- ing is president-elect of the so ciety. Junior hostesses will be Miss Nancy Stephenson, Miss Patty Gosch, Miss Mary Kay Conroy and Miss Carolyn McQuigg. Modeling clothing during the style show will be Miss Cather ine Clabby, Mrs. " Laurance V. Espey, Miss Laurene Espey, Mrs. Randolph Gabrielson, Mrs. C. S. Metz and Miss Mary Annette Rentz. Mrs. Maurice Spatz and Mrs. Louis Rentz are in charge of the table and decorations; Mrs. Luncheon, Music Planned for Group All Lady Elks are invited to a salad luncheon at the Elks tem ple Tuesday, May 15 at 1 p.m. A musical program will be con ducted and an afternoon of cards is planned. Bridge and pinochle will be in play. Hostesses will be Mrs. A. R. Schoenberg, Mrs. E. J Randolph and Mrs. Claude Hoover. Charles Ely and Mrs. John La den head the reception and pro gram committee and Mrs. W. F. Scruggs and Mrs. Florence Mon roe are in charge of food for the tea. Accordion music will be pro vided by Miss Sharon Roberts and Miss Oveta Walden. SOC Students To Be Married In June Wedding Ashland Miss Carol Marie Wildish, a sophomore student at Southern Oregon college, and Robert M. Dick will be married in June 10 rites at Trinity Meth odist church in Eugene. The en gagement and forthcoming wed ding was announced last week by the bride-elect's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Wildish, 1211 Park avenue, Eugene. Mr. Dick, of Redding, Calif., is a son of- Mrs. Laura Alhgren of that city. He has served with the Army's second division. The wedding will be held at 3 O'clock in the afternoon. Smedes to Leave On Extended Tour Mr. and Mrs. Norman Smedes will leave May 17 to spend a year traveling in Canada and this country. The Smedes have sold their home at 610 Valley View drive and will make their tour by car and house trailer. They plan to drive east across Canada and then tour the New England states and spend some time in New York City and Phil adelphia. Central Couple to Wed In June Service Mr. and Mrs. Fred Vogler of Los Altos, Calif., announce the enagagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, VaLee Ann, to William Arthur Hess of Medford. - 'Mis? Vogler is a graduate of Palo Alto High school and Wash ington State college. She also at tended San Jose State college. Mr. Hess is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur D. Hess of 224 Van couver avenue. The prospective bridegroom was graduated from Medford High school and wjll rer ceive a doctor of , veterinary medicine degree from Washing ton State college , in June. He also attended Willamette univer sity where he was affiliated with Sigma Alpha Epsiion fraternity. The couple will be married June 24 in the Methodist church in Los Altos. . School Plans Two Recitals St. Mary's school music de partment will' present the high school music pupils in two spring recitals Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, May 15 and lfj The performances will be in St. Mary's gymnasium. The program Tuesday evening will include choral selections by the Boys' Glee club, the girls' Choralettes and the Marian choir with sixty mixed voices. Piano solists May 15 are Miss Helen Timms, Gary Haas, Timothy Hil lerman. Miss Patricia Gosch, Ri chard Cooper and Miss Barbara Lickess, Miss Pauline Arnold will sing two vocal solos. A special feature of Tuesday's program will be the piano quar tette performing ' Kleinmichel's arrangement of Liszt's "Hungar ian Rhapsody, No. 2." Members of the quartette are Miss Carol Robinson and Miss Gosch at the first piano and Richard Cooper and Timothy Hillerman at the second piano. Wednesday evening's program will feature two vocal soloists, Richard Cooper and James Jones. Piano soloists will be Randi Pe terson, Miss Mary Kay Dugan Miss Carol Moldovan, Miss Carol Hussong, Miss Carol Robinson, and Miss Sonja Peterson. Choral selections will be the same as the previous evening. Both programs will begin at 8:15 p.m. -There is no admission charge, and everyone is cordially invited. 1 . Nancy Hamilton On Annual Staff Miss Nancy Hamilton, fresh man at the University of Ore gon, has been named manager of organizations for the next edi tion of the Oregana, university year book. The appointment was announced by Miss Eleanor Whitset. Miss Hamilton, daughtet of the Moore Hamiltons, 43 Rose avenue, is a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. College Students Plan Summer Rites Mrs. Robert C. Hart, Grant road, announces the engagement of her daughter. Miss Ann Hart, to Arthur M. Beavens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Beavens, Alhambra, Calif. The engagement was first an nounced at the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority house at Oregon State college where Miss Hart is a senior. Her fiance is a mem ber of Sigma Nu fraternity at the same school. Both young people are to be graduated from Oregon State college in June, Miss Hart tak ing a degree in nursery school education - and Mr. Beavens in chemical engineering. A late summer wedding is planned. Williams Return From Trip East Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Williams, 1113 South Riverside avenue, have returned home after spend ing the past month in the east. The Williams visited their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene L. Burroughs, Lex ington, Mass., and the Bur roughs' three daughters, Gail, Monica and Laurie, the latter born in January. The Williams made the trip by train, traveling east on the City of Portland to Chicago, and re turned on the California Zephyr, to San Francisco. While in Chi cago, they visited the Art Insti tute of Chicago where they were particularly interested in a dis play of about 100 miniature rooms made by Mrs. James Ward Thome and now a perma nent exhibit of the Institute. The Williams and the Bur roughs attended a performance of the Metropolitan Opera com pany in Boston while in the east, seeing "The Tales of Hoffman." Miss Lucine Amara, San Fran cisco soprano and friend of Mrs. Burroughs, sang one of the lead ing roles. They also saw a per formance of the Ziegfeld Follies with Tallulah Bankhead and May Barnes and also saw Moto rama and a showing of Cine rama.
