s nrnff mibw rd foazaojo mail tktbvvt Tuesday, Mir t. ljss Tito in France For Sfafe Visit; Precaution Taken Paris (U.R) President Tito of Yugoslavia arrived here yester day in an armored train for a five-day state visit that .brought on the strictest security precau tions seen in France in many years. The last Yugoslav ruler to vis it France was assassinated King Alexander I and French Foreign Minister Jean Louis Barthou were murdered Oct. 9, 1934, at; Marseilles. Lhtm Cancelled AH leaves was cancelled for Paris police and reinforcements were called into the city. There were unconfirmed reports 80 Yugoslav exiles were sent to North Africa for safekeeping and that another 300 were ordered to leave Paris for the duration of the visit. Security precautions for Tito were especially strong when his train passed through Italy where he has never been popular. Un precedented numbers of Italian guards stood by as Tito passed near Trieste, occupied by his troops for 40 days in 1945. Tito was hailed by both the left wing and the right wing in France as the armored train from Belgrade pulled Into the small, flag bedecked Bois De Boulogne station guarded by hordes of French police. Press AH Smile The press was all smiles. The right-wing newspaper L'Aurore called it "an important visit." The Communist L'Humanite gre eted it "with satisfaction." Last week the neutralist news paper Le Monde carried an in terview in which Tito said Rus sia's demotion of Josef Stalin was a tactical maneuver but the result of sincere conviction that Stalin was in error. Tito, French - Premier Guy Mollet and Foreign Minister 'Christian Pineau were expected to discuss this further. The two French leaders go to Moscow ' May 14 and Tito visits the Soviet capital next month. There were reports Tito may ask France for supersonic Mys tere IV jet fighters of the kind recently sold to Israel. ' SP Sets Special Excursion Journey Southern Pacific will sponsor a special excursion trip from San Francisco to Eugene by way of the Siskiyou, Shasta and Cas cade lines May 18-20, company officials have announced. The special' train, the Siskiyou Tlyer, will leave San Francisco Friday, May 18, and will arrive in Dunsmuir early the next morning. From there it will pro gress up the Sacramento river canyon at the foot of Mount Shasta to Black Butte. There the turn is made for the Siskiyou line to Eugene by way of Ash land, Medford and Roseburg. After an overnight stay, in Eugene, return will be made by. Cascade summit via Lake Odell, Klamath Falls and the Chico line. Reservation deadline for the ex cursion trip is Thursday, May 10. New Ashland YMCA Director Starts Duties Ashland - William Warren, new secretary of the Ashland YMCA, arrived Monday night from Seattle and immediately as sumed his duties. The new.'secretary has been in charge of boy's work at the Seattle downtown YMCA for the last five years. He is a native of Washington and a graduate of the University of Washington.
