Curtis LeMay, appear ing before special Senate armed services subcommit tee on air power in Wash ington, labeled a shortage of skilled manpower as the "most critical deficiency" of bis strategic air command. Arrangements Near Complete for Show Of Fire Equipment Representatives of federal, state and private industry groups have completed initial arrangements for a Fire-Ama Saturday, May 26, at Elk Lum ber company, North Highway 99. The Fire-Ama will be a dis- play and demonstration of vari ous types of equipment used in Jackson county for forest fire protection. The show was organ ized to focus attention on the Investment in protection of for ested areas, both in public and private funds. Federal and state agencies have indicated they will coop erate in the show. Demonstration Planned Included in plans are demon strations of equipment, an air drop exercise, demonstration of hand tools and pumps used in controlling forest fires, and several other events including a log-birling contest. Rural fire protection district, the weather bureau and other agencies concerned with forest fire suppression have been in vited to participate, according to Sam Taylor, of Elk Lumber company, chairman of the com mittee in charge of the show. Taylor said those interested In participating in the show may contact him - at Elk Lumber company. Grandview Vafer Extensions Ready . Five extensions of water mains installed last fall in the Grand view Water district are now ready for use, according to Har vey and Watkins, consulting en gineers. The extensions have been ster ilized. A total of 34 fire hydrants have been installed in the dis trict. Extensions are on Buckshot rd. from Springbrook rd. west; on Crater Lake ave. From Del ta Waters rd. north; on Crater Lake highway from Delta Wa ters rd. southwest along the highway; on Corona ave. from Hilton rd. north; and on Hilton rd. from Corona ave. west. Oregon Caves Featured In Magazine Article An article on Oregon Caves National monument appears in the May issue of Sunset maga zine. The article includes pictures taken inside the caves as well as one of the lodge and outside the cave exit. The geology of the caves, accommodations av ailable, and short descriptions of trails also are included in the article.
