Parker, former as sistant superintendent of Crater Lake National park, died Sun day in a Los Angeles hospital, friends here have learned. Mr. Parker, who was born in the mid-West on Nov. 12, 1885, was a park official here from March, 1938, to June, 1948, and retired 'from the park service two years later. He spent most of the winters of his tour of duty at Crater Lake in Medford, and had many friends here. After his retirement he continued work ing as a road engineer in the western states. His death was attributed to a heart attack, brought on by complications following pneu monia. Burial will be in the family plot in Queen City, Mo. The In terstate Commerce Commission has granted eastern and west ern railroads a five per cent in crease in passenger fares, effec tive today. The ICC also ordered similar increases in intrastate passenger r&tes in eight states which set up a maximum rate by statute. Under the boost, the minimum coach fare on eastern railroads goes up from 20 to 25 cents while sleeping car and parlor car accommodations are in creased from 20 to 45 cents. On western carriers, min imum fares will be increased from 15 to 25 cents, while excess baggage charges in both groups will go up five per cent. The states in which the ICC ordered intrastate fare increases are Arkansas, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and Texas.
