TWELVE MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Footlighfers Play Will Be Presented Between May 8-12 "GoodvHousekeeping," a 1949 Broadway comedy by William McCleary, will be the first pro duction of the Footlighters the atrical group in over a year. The play will be presented at ,8 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Foot lighters' theater at the fair grounds. The play will run through May 12. The theme of the play is ma chine politics. The plot revolves around a college president, his daughter and their boyfriends, and his restless wife, who, be cause of her idleness, tries to run her husband's life and un wittingly prfevokes the state's political boss against him. The president becomes enraged -and decides to run for governor to clean up politics in his state. Cait Members Listed Appearing in the play are Frankie Burton, Frank Buchter, Isaac Mctarley, Shirley Buck ingham, Elizabeth Belsch, Clyde Wheaton, Carl McQuigg, and Ruth Kilbourn. , Rudy Vest, a student at South ern Oregon college, who intends to continue in drama, is director. Stage manager is Nick Parker. Bernard Roberts is in charge of set construction. Kathy Davis is in charge of props. The set will be furnished by Kenneth Swartz. The Footlighters are an ama teur theatrical group composed of local talent who consider act ing only as an avocation. This is the first play in the recently decorated theater and new loca tion. Dalles Aluminum Plant Due Lines - The Dalles U.R) A spokes man for Bonneville Power ad ministration said today that lines to carry power from The Dalles dam to a proposed alumi num plant here will be under construction within a short time and will be completed by the August, 1958, deadline. Byron Price, assistant admin istrator for BPA, said Harvey Machine company of Torrance, Calif., which holds a license to build the aluminum plant, had been granted a 90-day extension to its deadline for starting con struction. Harvey had been scheduled to start building the multi-million dollar facility about May 1. The extension to August 1 was granted because of planning delays at the strike bound Westinghouse plant where the ' designs were being drafted. The power line will stretch from Big Eddy switching station to the Harvey site near The Dalles. Absentee Ballot Requests Due Soon. The last day on which applica tions can be accepted for ab sentee ballots to be voted in the the May 18 primary election is May 7, Mrs. Bereth Hopkins, county clerk, announced today. It is already past the deadline for sending special absentee bal lots to armed service personnal, she said. To be eligible for an absentee ballot, a voter must live more than 15 miles from the polling place in the precinct where! he is registered, or be physically unable to go to the polling place, or state that he will be out of the county on election day. 35 Cases of Measles Reported Last Week Thirty-five cases of measles were reported in Jackson county for the week ending April 28, according to Dr. A. Erin Merkel, public health physician. Jacksonville reported a total of 24 measles cases, Medford 10 and Ashland 1. . Other diseases reported in the county last week included mumps,-Ashland 1, Medford 2; rheumatic fever,. Medford 1; pneumonia, Medford 2; pink eye, Medford 4, Shady Cove 1 and Gold Hill 1; and influenza, Med ford 1.
