(International) YMCA Members Plan Church Emphasis Day Plans are now under way by the Religious Emphasis commit tee of the Medford YMCA for observance of YMCA Church Emphasis Sunday in Medford, May 6. Members of each of the classes held at the "Y" will invite friends who do not now go to church, to attend church with them. They will attend various churches of their choice. The committee has selected one of seven declarations made at last year's world-wide YMCA meeting in Paris, France, on which to emphasize the observ ance. The declaration concerns in terdenominational and intercon fessional fellowship of all faiths. The Religious Emphasis com mittee is made up of the Rev. and Mrs. Kenneth Korby, the Rev. A lj.ey witness in the state's effort to prove the bomb theory is J. William Magee. an explosive expert from the FBI laboratory in Washington. District. Attorney Bert M. Keating said Magee's testimony would show, in detail, that dyna- Stock Broker Named in Swindle New. York (U.R) A federal grand jury yesterday indicted a Jersey City stock broker, al ready facing trial in a 5900,000 Seattle telephone stock swindle, on charges he defrauded some 50.000 investors in a S15,000,000 uranium stock deal. U. S. attorneys described the accused, Walter F. Tellier, 54, as president of one of the na tion biggest over-the-counter stock firms, Tellier and Co. The government charged that Tellier used radio, television and newspaper advertising to sell 20.000,000 shares In Consoli dated Uranium Mines, Inc., of Salt Lake City at prices up to SI. 87 per share. In one operation he bought 250,000 shares of the stock at one cent a share and then sold them at a much higher price after zooming the market price by "promotional activities and false representation of the condition of the company and its prospects." prosecutors said. Consolidated Uranium Mines had nothing to do with Tellier's activities, the government em phasized, and had protested to Tellier about "exaggerated" statements in his sales literature. The grand jury heard several disappointed investors tell how Tellier advised them to "put this stock away for your grandchil dren. It's going up to $20 a share." The stock now is selling for 20 cents a share, the government said. Powell Surrenders To U. S. Marshal San ' Francisco (U.R) John W. Powell, former editor of the China Monthly Review, and his wife Sylvia surrendered to the U.S. Marshal today on charges of committing sedition. The Powells, accompanied by attorney Doris Brin Walker, ap peared at the marshal's office at 10:55 a.m. They handed news men a full-page typewritten statement in which they said: "We have certainly not com mitted any act of sedition. We reject this accusation as entirely false. We are proud to be Amer ican citizens and affirm our loy alty to our country." The Powells, together with a former associate, Julian Schu man of New York, were named in an' indictment returned yes terday by the federal grand jury here. Springfield Voters Favor Bond Issue Springfield, Ore. (U.R) The Springfield school district yes terday voted in favor of a $965, 000 bond issue, 998 to 365. The funds will be used to build a new junior high school and make major additions to the two present junior high schools. They also will provide for a multi-purpos room for a grade school. Also approved, 1011 to 358, was authorization to exceed the 6 per cent limitation by S862,-000. U. S. Steel Sells Iron Ore To Italy Caracas, Venezuela (lift) The United States Steel Corp. has sold 800.000 tons of Vene zuelan iron ore to Italy, it was announced Thursday. Italian Ambassador Count Justo Giusti Del Giardino said the ore, to be taken from the American companys big Cerro Bolivar mine, was sold to the Ilva Company of Genoa. Specific Charge The 24-year-old Graham is charged specifically with the murder of his mother, Mrs. Daisie King, 54, one of the crash victims. He allegedly planted the homemade time bomb in her luggage shortly before the plane took off from Denver's Staple ton Airport. Keating said Magee's testi mony "definitely will tie the actual explosion's source to dynamite." The district attorney said he planned to follow Magee's testi mony with that of Lyman Brown, a Kremmling, Colo., general store manager. Keating said Brown would attempt to identify Graham as the man to whom he sold 20 sticks of dyna mite and two dynamite caps on Oct. 29 three days before the crash. Fragments Introduced Several small fragments found in the wreckage of the plane, presumably bits of the bomb the state contends blew up the plane, probably will be linked with Magee's testimony. The blackened fragments were introduced as evidence by the state yesterday without being identified other than they were found in the wreckage. The prosecution is expected to climax its case with an at tempt to introduce as evidence a confession Graham made and signed to the FBI but which he later repudiated. The defense undoubtedly will oppose introduction of the con fession with the result likely being lengthy arguments before District Judge Joseph M. Mc Conald in the absence of the jury. Navy To Seek New Altitude Record Washington ttJ.R) The Navy will try to set a world altitude record next Tuesday at the White Sands, N.M., ' proving grounds with a new type rocket. The altitude goal is at least 190 miles. The Navy will fire into the thin air an Aerobee-Hi rocket with a 120-pound payload. It will carry a version of the radio transmitter that will be used in the earth satellite vehicle next year. j The present record for a iin-j gle state rocket is 158 miles, set j by a Viking rocket on May 24, ' 1954. Although the Navy get the ; altitude goal at 190 miles, it said the research rocket may go even higher. Unlike the Viking, the Aerobee-Hi is boosted into the air by 1 a small, solid propellant booster i rocket which falls away after about three seconds.
