Mrs. Real, a Yugoslav working as a forced laborer for the Nazis in a Saar steel mill when Ursula was born, indicated she will file suit for custody of the child if the foster parents insist upon keeping her. Our daughter Jane is in a terrible mess and has given me a great deal of grief. She is a college student, and I have every reason to be lieve that she is having an affair with a married man. I am afraid of a tragic outcome, and I dare not tell my husband, as he would probably disown her in a moment. There is a boy who is every thing a girl could want in a husband and who is crazy about Jane. I have been pleading with Jane to accept him and get mar ried, but she will not hear of it. If I could think of a good reason for making Jane quit college and come home, I would get her away from this married man, but my husband is set on her completing college, and I dare not tell him the truth. Jane I am in love with a man who loves me. I do not con sider him a married man, and he does not consider himself marrier. Here is a woman who refuses to divorce him only because she wants a price he cannot meet. I am not living with him and I am serious about finishing college and going into a profes sion so that I can help him meet his problems. My mother found out about a few intimate occa sions, and she is trying to make a tragedy out of the situation. I think it is immoral for mc to marry a man who loves me when I feel I belong to another. I think my mother should stop being tragic and leave me alone. The Council: This mother is taking far too much on herself. She has no right attempting to force here daughter into a fake marriage, and she has even less right to usurp her husband's place as Jane's father. He should be told what is go ing on. Mrs. JM.L. thinks he is too excitable to know. She is probably wrong. In any event. Playwright MacArlhur Dies in NY Hospital New York (U.R) Playwright Charles MacArlhur,' who im mortalized the roaring '20's in the roistering newspaper play, The Front Page." died at a New York hospital Saturday with his actress wife, Helen Hayes, at his beaside. He was 60. MacArthur, whose own youth ful escapades rivaled those of the characters in his boisterous drama, entered the hospital last Tuesday, suffering from nephrit is, a kidney ailment, and severe anernia. Miss Hayes, his wife of 28 years, had cancelled a television appearance because fo his ill "ness. She was with him almost constantly until the end. DORISH SPIKED Baltimore (U.R) Relief pitcher Harry Dorish of the Bal timore Orioles was expected to be out of action Tor two or three games until spike wounds in his right heel are healed. Dorish was spiked by Washington catcher Clint Courtney in a play at first base yesterday and the injury required 12 stitches. An average farm in Nebraska has about 1,000 acres. he has a right to know about his daughter, and he would be de frauded if decisions were made without his knowledge. If Jane were told by both parents that she must break up with this married man, she would have before her an ex ample of parental unity that she has not had up till now. Since it seems she cannot be trusted at college, then she should be brought home. Jane may possibly be too far gone to be saved from this situ ation, but her mother is not much help now when she con fronts her daughter with the picture of an emotionally un stable father and tries to force a marriage that is perhaps as immoral as the affair she is try ing to break up. When one parent usurps . the authority of another on the pre text that the other is incompe tent or unstable, this fact alone tends to undermine a child's con fidence in the wisdom of either parent. Jane has a secret relationship that violates the moral code, but her mother is offensively self righteous in hiding this vital matter from her husband. Tokyo (U.R) Sadakichi Kato, who confessed to a crime he didn't commit, and spent nearly two years in prison, said he stuck to the falsehood be cause he didn't want to "embar rass" the police. Walla Walla (U.R) Cries Strike at Macy's Ends Saturday New York (U.R) A marathon negotiating session early Satur day brought an end to the 11-day-old strike of some 8,000 employees of Macy's the world's largest department store. Terms of the settlement were not announced but a union offi cial said the agreement would mean "more wages and better conditions" for his union mem bers. The strike was called April 10 by a local of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union. President Samuel Kovenetsky of the local said, however, that the agreement did not include the 37J,i hour week that the union had been asking for. He said picketing would continue through today despite the agree ment. The unionwill not con sider the strike over until the members ratify the agreement, probably Sunday, he said. of newborn babies were heard in the all male hospital of Wash ington State penitentiary.
