TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, April 22, 1958 Blue Star Mothers To Convene Delegates to the coming state ; convention in iieaiora were elected at the monthly meeting of Blue Star Mothers of Amer ica on Thursday. The convention is set for Wednesday and Thurs day. April 25 and 26. Mrs. Olaf Severson was elect ed delegate and Mrs. George Ware, alternate. State officials attending in their right as delegates are Mrs. Rex Note, department president: Mrs. Helen Watson, financial sec retary; Mrs. F. B. Cleaves, re cording secretary: Mrs. James Cech. musician and Mrs. Fred Middlebusher, past chapter pres ident. The convention will open with a banquet at the Medford Hotel Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. At 7:30 p m. memorial services will be held at the courthouse auditor ium for members who have died in the past year. Mrs. Crorey, department chaplain, and Mrs. Cech will have charge of this. Thursday at 9:30 a.m. the group will convene in the court house. Service groups of Med ford are invited to call at the convention session. Purchase of 2,000 Blue Star daisies was reported and these will be sold on the streets of Medford May 18 and 19. Funds from this sale are used entirely for veterans benefits. Three new members were in itiated into Medford chapter, with visitors from Grants Pass Chapter taking part. Frank David Harden (Landis-Shangle photo) Catholic Church Ceremony Miss Carol Hanson Honored at Party; Wedding Day Set Miss Carol Hanson was hon ored at a shower given April 8 by Mrs. Joe- Hoyt, Mrs. Walter Lewis, Mrs. Harold Hanson and Mrs. Elmer Fjarli. The party was held at the home of Mrs. Lewis on South Stage road, with about 33 guests attending. Miss Hanson was presented a shower of gifts for her new home. Her wedding to Charles Lewis, Grants Pass, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lewis of that city, has been set for June 3. The bride-elect is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hanson, 863 Marshall avenue. 1 Marries Medford Couple A nuptial mass at Sacred Heart church Saturday, April 14, wedded Miss Evelyn Laurene Harrison and Frank David Harden. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William O. Harrison, 3360 Lone Pine road, Medford, and the bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Frank E. Harden, 44 North Peach street, and the late Mr. Harden. The Rev. Nicholas Deis read the marriage ceremony at 9 o'clock in the morning with about 75 guests attending. A re ception followed in the Pioneer room of the Jackson hotel. The bride's gown, designed and made by her mother, was of lace over bridal satin, with the lace cut away in scallops to reveal the front skirt and with back folds of lace covering the train. She carried a white or chid encircled with white carna tions. Mr. Harrison escorted his daughter to the altar. Mrs. James Messer, matron-of-honor, wore a pink taffeta gown and the bridesmaids, the Misses Carol Van Ausdall and Sharon Lilly, were gowned in orchid taffeta frocks. Bruno Pellegrini was at the church organ. Baskets of white stock and pink carnations were on the church altar, and pink carnations arranged with peach bloom and white blossoms deco rated the reception tables. Mrs. Vernon R. Bacon, Mrs. Milton D. Erickson and Mrs. Carl Jantzer served the cake, coffee and punch. Miss Helen McDonall took charge of the guest book. For her daughter's wedding the bride's mother wore a print dress with beige coat and white rosebud corsage. The bride groom's mother was attired in a print suit with navy coat and white rosebud corsages. The newly-wedded pair made a wedding trip to San Francisco and are at home at 518 West Sixth street, Apt. 2. The bride, who attended Sacred Heart High school in Los Angeles, is on the staff of Southern Oregon Title company. Mr. Harden, a graduate of St. Mary's school in Medford, is with the California Oregon Power company. In Medford for the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. William B. Harr'.son, Los Angeles, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Belli, Gardena, Calif., all four grandparents of the bride; and Albert A. Goode, Los ' Angeles, godfather of the bride. ' Doctor and Wife Guests of Durnos Dr. and Mrs. Lewis M. Hurx- 1 thai of Boston, Mass., are guests in Medford of Dr. and Mrs. Ed win Durno. 222 Valley View I drive. The Hurxalls have also spent some time at Arizona resorts and in other California cities. . Miss Burrough And Paul Coggins , Plan June Rites A June 17 wedding is planned by Miss. Janice Burrough and Paul Charles Coggins, whose en gagement was announced last week by the bride-elect'i par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis A. Bur rough, 827 Gilman road. The bridegroom-e'lect is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Coggins, 1329 Beekman avenue. Miss Burroughs is a junior student at Medford Senior high school and her fiance ' is em ployed by his -father. The Community Bible church at Central Point, will be scene of the wedding rites. Miss Carol Carter Becomes Bride of Harvey Boardman Miss Carol Carter became the bride of Harvey Boardman in a ceremony held April 15 at First Methodist church. Dr. Raymond ' E. Balcomb officiated for the double ring service at 3 o'clock in ' the afternoon. The bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Carter Jr., 1325 Vawter road, and the bridegroom is a son of Mrs. Alberta Boardman, 726 West Fourth street. . I Given in marriage by her father the bride wore a gown of bridal satin designed with tulle and embroidered lace. She car ried a bouquet of white carna tions and orchids. Three sisters of the bride and a sister of the bridegroom were attendants. They are Miss Judy Ann Carter, Miss Beverly Car ter, Miss Patricia Carter and Ceremony Weds Couple At Home Eagle Point The wedding of Mrs. Marlene Annie Bohannon and Edwin Grant Workman was read April 13 at 8 o'clock in the evening at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. D. E. Millard, Eagle Point. The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reese G. Waits, Shady Cove Star route, Box 88, Eagle Point, and the bridegroom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Workman,- route 1, box 431B, Med ford. The Rev. Mr. Millard per formed the ceremony which was attended by about 15 guests. The bride wore an aqua blue brocaded suit dress with black accessories and her corsage was of deep lavender orchids. Mrs. Glenn Riggs, a sister of the bride, was honor attendant and vore a lavender dress with tan accessories. Her flowers were gardenias. Floyd Workman was best man for his brother. Songs also were furnished by the Rev. Mr. Millard. The reception was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Waite. The bride's mother served the wedding cake after the newly wedded couple cut the first slice. The bride's sister, Mrs; Riggs, assisted Mrs. Waite in serving and also poured. Mrs. Floyd Workman had charge of the bride's book. The couple will live at 1019 West 12th street, Medford.' The bride has lived most of her life in the Medford vicinity and was graduated in 1950 from Medford Senior High school. The bridegroom came to the val ley about nine years ago from Klamath Falls where he was graduated from high school in 1947. He is employed by Sierra Cascade Lumber company, Phoenix. Style Show Set In Central Point Central Point Preparations have been completed for the annual Blossom Time style show and luncheon of Nevita Social club. The event will be held Friday, April 27, at 1 p.m. in the Central Point Junior High school gymnasium, Old Pacific highway. Mrs. Wyles E. Berry is gen eral chairman, with Mrs. Merril Harsh and Mrs. Frank Ward as co-chairmen. Clothing will be shown by Mann's store, Medford, and Big Y Tot shop, Medford. Tickets may be obtained by contacting Mrs. Harsh, TA6-2773, or Mrs. Wendell Vaughn, Med ford 2-8924. Medford Electa Social club will attend the luncheon and style show Friday, instead of holding a meeting on the usual date. Members are asked to make reservations by t e le phoning Mrs. Nellie Brown, 3-3238, Mon day, April 23. Those who wish transportation are asked to be at Girls Community club at 12:30 p.m. Chapter to Mark 56th Anniversary Reames chapter will celebrate the 56th anniversary of organi zation at a meeting April 26, at 8 p.m. at the Medford Masonic temple. Charter members and 50-year members will be hon ored. Hostesses for the evening will be Mrs. Sam Colton and Mrs. William Shei. Miss Sue Boardman. They, wore gowns of pastel crystalline and ; carried nosegays of pastel car nations. Jack Boardman was best man for his brother and another brother, Al Boardman; Bob Bills and Dick Harrison were ushers. The bride's mother wore a blue brocaded dress and her cor sage was of pink rosebuds. The i bridegroom's mother was dressed in blue lace and both mothers had white accessories. M r s. Boardman's corsage was of white rosebuds. . i Stock and snapdragons in pas-1 tel shades decorated the church and songs were furnished by Mrs. Richard Harrison, accom panied by Mrs. C. R. Adamson. About 100 persons attended the ceremony and reception held at the church rooms. Individual wedding cakes were served the guests and table decorations of daffodils were in the form of a wreath. The couple left for San Fran cisco for a wedding trip and will return to live at 230 South Cen tral avenue. The bride is a bookkeeper at O. P. Taylor accountancy offices. She attended Boise schools and Boise college. The bridegroom, station agent for United Air lines, received his education in Oregon schools and Southern Oregon college. Out-of-town guests included the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Carter; Mrs. Gerald Call and daughter, Janie; Mr. and Mrs. Garth Howard and Charles Coulter, all of ' Boise; Mr. and Mrs. Keith Miller, Se attle, Wash.; Mrs. Chester Waite, Salejn; Mr. and Mrs. Clark Ham lin, Eugene, and Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Boardman and family, Grants Pass. The bride was a guest of honor at several events held before the wedding and Mr. and Mrs. John Niedermeyer, Jacksonville, uncle and aunt of the bridegroom, were dinner hosts to members of the brida' group, other family mem bers and out-of-town guests Sat urday, April 14. Women Organize Auxiliary Group A membership meeting of the newly organized women's group, Cow Belles, auxiliary to the Jackson County Livestock asso ciation, is set for - Wednesday, April 25 at 12:30 p.m., in the Jackson hotel. Wives of associa tion members and any women relatives of members are in vited to attend and to join the group. Mainly the group is organized to promote the beef industry and at Wednesday's meeting objec tives of the organization will be explained. Mrs. C. H. Buffington is presi dent; Mrs. John Bohnert is vice president, and Mrs. Clayton Charley, secretary-treasurer. Family Reunion Held Last Week; Soldier Leaves A family reunion was held April 14 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Gleason, 2684 Cra ter Lake highway. Present were Pfc. Vern Gleason, Jim Gleason, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Gleason, Dan and Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Royal Gleason, Linda, Susan and Judy of Albany, Mr. and Mrs. John Knox, David and Sandra, Ashland, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Peterson, ; Rita, Lorelei and Wayne, and Mr. and Mrs. John Benson, Jim and Don. Private Gleason is enroute to Germany after having been sta tioned at Ft. Bliss, Tex. Pfc. Lee Morrier, Pittsfield, Mass., ac companied him here, but has since returned to Ft. Bliss. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Boardman (Brainerd photo) Couple to Wed In June Rites May 12 has been set at the date of the wedding of Miss Jane Durno, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edwin Durno, 222. Valley View drive, to Dr. Brian D. Stringer of Christchurch, New Zealond. The ceremony will take place at eight o'clock in the evening at First Presbyterian church in this city. Dr. Stringer arrived in Med ford recently to remain until after the wedding. The couple plans a brief honeymoon trip in this country and will return to Medford until they leave about June' 1 for New Zealand. Dr. Stringer, who did gradu ate work at Harvard university and Massachusetts General hos pital as a Fullbright scholar, arrived here from Edinburgh, Scotland, where he recently was granted membership in the Royal College of Surgeons. ,' .Eugene Michael R. DeVore, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Ronald DeVore, 806 Jackson street, has been named head of the contact committee for the annual all campus sing which will be held during Junior Weekend, May 17, 18 and 19. Young DeVore is a freshman in pre-dentistry. Mother-Daughter Banquet Planned The annual mother-daughter banquet of First Methodist church will be held Friday, May 11, at 6:30 p.m. at. the church. Speaker will be Mrs. Clarence C. Meeker, former Medford res ident now editor of Methodist Woman, who will come from New York City in early May for a number of church events. The committee states that res ervations are required for all attending, including pre-school children, although no charge will be made for the latter. ' Reservations -are to be made by calling the. church office, or obtaining . tickets from ' circle chairmen. Plans Underway For Card Party Final preparations are being made for the annual benefit card party of the Marks Evening guild. It will be held Wednes day, May 9, at 7 p.m. Women will play cards in the guild hail. and couples will play in the church parish house. Dessert will be served. Reservations are to be mada by telephoning Mrs. Victor Milnes, 2-5624, or Mrs. Fred Morlan, 2-9753. Tickets may also be obtained from any guild member. ' The guild will meet Monday, April 23, at 8 p.m. in the parish house. Mrs. Robert Corbin will report on Women's diocesan con vention. Remainder of the eve ning will be devoted to work on the card party. Hostesses will be Mrs. Warren Lesseg, Mrs. Fred Morlan and Mrs. George R. V. Bolster. Medford Women Take Motor Trip Mrs. Fred Rankin and Mrs. Nathan Crowell left Thursday morning for a motor trip to the midwesternstates. Mrs. Crowell will visit relatives in Nebraska and Indiana, and Mrs. Rankin will, first v!sit in Nebraska and later will be in Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Mrs. Rankin will attend a fam iily wedding in Milwaukee, Wise, and in Blair, Neb., will visit her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Beaty. She plans a motor trip to Sioux City, la., with Mr. and Mrs. Na son Friend. Mrs. Rankin will spend the month of the June with a long time friend at Lake Ponto, Minn., and the two women plan to spend their time writing and painting.
