Fir Phone 2-2472 Shady Cove-Trail The Shady Cove Garden club met April 9 at the home of Mrs. Dick Bartuss, Rogue River dr., with Mrs. Wes ley Jones and Mrs. Cecil Kee as co-hostesses, and with 33 mem bers and guests present. Two new members joined the club, Mrs. Walter Turner of Trail and Mrs. Waiter Cross of Shady Cove. Guests present were Mesdames Robert Hammons, Adeline Carl, Howard Ferguson, Charles Por ter, Ralph Lane, and Jacalyn Langston, all of Shady Cove. The Rev. Thomas McCamant of Medford talked on birds of the area and answered questions. The next meeting will be held May 7 at the home of Mrs. Verne Wilson, Rogue River dr. The subject will be flower ar rangements and corsage mak ing. The meeting will open at 10 a.m. with a workshop. Reg ular meeting will start at 12:30 p.m. as usual. Members of the Colleen Hope tap dancing class from this area who entertained the veterans at Camp White at the Easter party March 30 were Cecelia Kee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Kee; Carol Hale, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Hale; and Mar ilyn Learning, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Learning, all of Shady Cove. Mrs. Learning, Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Kee were present as well as other members of the Ladies Auxiliary to Steelhead post, VFW, which sponsored the party. Others present were Mes dames Harry Birch and Tom Merritt of Medford; Frances Mil ler, Jeanette Johnson, James Cassal, Bob Colpitts, Carroll Watson and son, Lane, of Shady Cove: Mrs. Zella Tullis of Trail; and Mrs. Albert Andre and son, Martial of Shady Cove. Inquiry classes are again be ing held each Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Ernest Se gessenman of Shady Cove with all Catholics in the area invited to attend. Father Deis of Med ford will be present. Our Lady of Fatima club will sponsor a Mothers' day food sale and any one desiring to leave an order for a special cake may do so with Mrs. Pearl Adair of Shady Cove. Orders for cakes, pies or other items may be given the members. Members of Bethel 56, Interna tional Order of Jobs Daughters, held a line party recently, meet ing at the Cove Variety in Shady ford. Following the show Miss Barbara Henderson was hostess at her home in Eagle Point, serv ing refreshments to the group. Mrs. Hattie Salter of Prospect spent April 10 visiting at the home of Mrs. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Reed McKay of Trail were driving near Grants Pass April 18 when their car was struck from behind. Reed was not injured but Mrs. McKay suffered back injuries and shock and was taken to Josephine Gen eral hospital in Grants Pass. X rays were to be taken to deter mine the extent of her injuries and she was put in traction for her back. Latest reports indi cate that she will remain in the hospital for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dicker- son of Grants Pass were guests for dinner on April 8 at the home of Dickerson's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Spain of Shady Cove. The Shady Cove-Trail Lady Lions will hold a rummage, plant and food sale on Saturday, April 28, at the Shady Cove cleaners. Proceeds will go to ward the scholarship fund. Any one having rummage they would like to donate may leave it at the home of Mrs. Frank Fagalde. Members of the Shady Cove Trail Lions and Lady Lions at tending the Medford Crater Lions club hobo party were Messrs. and Mesdames Delbert Spain, Don Harmon, Harry Goode, Thomas Quail, Ray Mul len, Ted Jantzer,-- and their guests Ray and Ronald Stock still. The Rogue Elk Extension unit will participate in the Home Ex tension Spring Festival in Cen tral Point on May 2 with a skit, "Ancient Craft Glamorized." Mrs. Ranald Axtell of Trail, was hostess at her home for a farewell party honoring Mrs. Ralph Lane of Shady Cove. Mrs. Lane, who has served as treasurer for St. Martin's Epis copal church in Shady Cove for two years, and secretary for St. Martin's Guild for the past year, is leaving for Tiller where her husband is working. She plans to visit her son, Donald Bald win, in Walla Walla, Wash., first and then visit relatives and friends in San Luis Obispo, her former home. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wells and children of Los Angeles spent a week visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Waltz and family of Shady Cove. Other guests who spent a week end recently with the Waltzes were Mr. and Mrs. Bob Herzog of Mt. Shasta. Jimmy Welch of Shady Cove entertained ' a group of young friends at an Easter egg hunt on the grounds of the Rainbow mo tel. After the egg hunt was over games were played and refresh ments served to Carol Hale, Ce celia Kee, Shirley and Luella Minor, Sharon Hawks, Sandra Hawks, Johnny O'Brien, Toni Motschenbacher, Mike and Wayne House. Robertson and year-old ' son, of Medford, who have bought the Ralph Lane residence and farm' and will move here next week. They plan to be in the chicken business and will continue the name, Long branch Poultry Farm. Another newcomer is John Galovich, who has been serving in the Merchant Marine and who joined his wife here recently. They have leased the Shack Cafe in Shady Cove from Mrs. Galo vich's sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith, and opened for business March 26. Meals will be served every day except Saturdays. George Pfeifer of Shady Cove expects to go to Portland this week with Dr. Ferguson who will enter him at the Veteran's hospital for treatment there. Bob Colpitts of Shady Cove has been at the Vetreans' Hospital for some time, undergoing observa tion.' Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cassal of Trail are staying with Mrs. Col pitts. Another patient at the Vet erans' Hospital who is well known in this area is Jan Gil housen, son of Mrs. Montie Gil housen. He was flown up to the hospital for spinal surgery from Ashland where he had been at tending SOC. The luncheon and card party sponsored by the Shady Cove PTA on April 6 was successful with a large number attending for the luncheon. There were seven tables of cards afterwards. Children who will enter the first grade this fall are invited to be guests of the first grade pupils at the school from 8:45 a.m. to lunch time on April 18, and will also have lunch at no charge as guests of the school. Mothers are invited to come for the lunch, to be served them at a small charge. Floyd Kelley of Shady Cove has purchased a new Dodge pickup. Vernon Baldwin, son of Mrs. Ralph Lane of Shady Cove, spent his Easter vacation visiting at the home of relatives in Wil mington, Del. He has been named an honor student at the sonar school. Eugene Simson of Los Angeles was a dinner guest Sunday, April 8, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Watson of Shady Cove. Walter Mallory of Shady Cove received a letter from little Ver na Hemingway to the effect that the City of Hope hospitaLhas re leased her to go home to spend the Easter holiday with her fam ily, but that she had returned to the hospital. Anne Sanford, daughter of Mrs. Ruth Sanford, is now back in Shady Cove and plans to stay until June when she will go to Sacramento to accept a position awaiting her there.' The Ed Abernathy family of Shady Cove who are now liv ing in California, were here on' a brief visit last week. Shirley Abernathy visited the classes at the Shady Cove school. Mri. Ann Briggs, sixth, sev enth and eighth grade students presented an " exhibition of square dancing at the program for the meeting of the Shady Cove PTA April 10. During the business meeting officers were i elected for the coming year. : They are chairmen,. Viola Mul len; vice chairman, Claudene Hawks; secretary, Ruth Pfeifer, and treasurer, Shirley Knotts. Refreshments were served. Toni Motschenbacher was guest ol honor aj: a birthday par ty at her home April 5. After the party was over the guests stayed for dinner. Jim Parks, son of Mrs. Olive Parks of Shady Cove, has joined I the Air Force and is now sta tioned at Parks Air Force base, California. . Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Williams of Shady Cove have returned ; from their trip to Oakland and : Hayward Calif., where they vis- ited with friends and with Mrs. j Williams' sisters and husbands, ' Mr. and Mrs. L. Wolters and Mr. HORNBROOK Camp Lowe Being Rebuilt CHAPMAN Camp Lowe, By MRS. H. H. rfornbrook which sustained severe and ex tensive damage at the time of the disastrous floods in Decem ber and January, is being re built and renovated. The work is expected to be completed about May 1, at which time the camp will be able to offer the facilities of a completely mod ern trailer court, with some cabins also available. Mr. and, Mrs. Dave Holland, owners and operators, are antici pating a good fishing season, as the camp is an old-established one, and well known among rod and reel enthusiasts. It is situat ed on a bend of the Klamath river at the junction of the old and new Highway 99. Visiting on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emory Parshall and Mrs. Emma Par shall were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cash of Yreka, formerly of Little Shasta, and Mrs. Effie Evans, and Mr. and Mrs. Will Hudson of Yreka, all of whom were former neighbors of the Parshalls in Montague. A3c Raymond Moffett, who has been home on a 30-day leave from the Air Force, left Tues day for New York preparatory to being sent to Italy. His par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cum mins, and his sister, Shirley, saw him off at the Montague airport. He was to take the over night plane out of San Francisco, and arrive in New York Wednes day morning. Overnight visitors last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bear on Henley rd. were Mrs. Bear's brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. William Klontz. They were en route to their home at Abbotsford, B.C., after spending the winter months in Palm Springs, Calif. Mrs. Marshall Horn was host ess for the Contract Bridge club April 10 at her home on Old Highway 99. Following a des-' sert luncheon, members playing were Mrs. Bertha Bradley, Mrs. James Hodge, Mrs. Duane Ham ner of Hilt, Mrs. Dave Holland, Mrs. Lester Nye, and Mrs. Laura Swinnerton. Guest players were Mrs. Frank Ohlund, and Mrs. Fred Mills, who won high score. Mrs. Bradley won second. . Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bear Washington (U.R) Comp troller of the Currency Ray M. Gidney has called on all national banks to submit statements of condition as of close of businesi April 10. made a business trip to Klamath. Falls last Friday.
