Death Takes Second Tiny Leukemia Victim Grands Rapids, Mich. !U.R) I The young parents of twin girls who died of leukemia said to day they "can't help wonder ing" if their unborn child will suffer the same fate. One of the twin girls, two-year-old Kathleen van , Lopik, Smith Proclaims Sayings, Loan Month Surplus and reserves of Jack son County Federal association of Medford equaled more than 10.8 per cent in relation to memorial savings as of Dec. 31, 1955, it has been announced to day. Of $978,411 total, 5232,327 went out as undivided profits. A total of $281,395 went out as dividends. First Federal association of Medford in 1955 made loans to taling $936,150. Mortgage hold ings scored a net rise of S257,000 to S2,447,814. Oregon's savings associations were praised by Gov. plmo Smith Friday, when he designat ed April as "Savings and Loan Month." This is the 125th anni versary of the savings and loan business. died Tuesday. Her identical twin, Eileen, died six weeks ago. The parents. Mr. and Mrs. John van Lopik, said they ac cepted the double tragedy as "God's will." "It will all be explained to us some day," they said. Doctors said the fact that both of the twin girls contracted and died of the incurable disease was a "one in a million medical rarity." No Longer Suffering "My wife and I are relieved now that Kathleen has gone," said van Lopik, a 25-year-old furniture worker. "We are ac tually happy to know that she no longer is suffering. "It's a blessing that she died and a relief for us to know she is happy now in Heaven," he said. Van Lopik's brother. William, said the couple took Kathleen's death "wonderfully." "God cer tainly has give them a tremen dous capacity to understand His work," he said. He took the bereaved parents into the seclusion of his home to recoup from their ordeal and contemplate the future. "They can't help wondering if their unborn child will suffer the same fate," he said. Doctors said Kathleen was more active as she neared death than was her sister who died Feb. 26. But although Kathleen was restless most of the day, she died quietly after emitting a lit tle sigh, they said. Tears streamed down the face of her mother, Rhoda, 25, but she kept her composure and did not break down. The couple's pastor, the Rev. Raymond H. Hann, comforted her. Van Lopik arrived at the hos pital only a few minutes after the child died. The fatal blood disease was discovered in Kathleen only a week before her sister's death. Demon strations in the physical sciences will be held in the chemistry laboratory. Demonstrators will be Ryder Berg, Medford High chemistry teacher; Daryl Davis, McLoughlin Junior High school general science teacher; Clar ence Miller, Crater High school chemistry and general science teacher; and Clarence Diebel. associate professor of science at Southern Oregon college.
