Expert Cautions on Mental Health Drugs Detroit (U.R) A promin ent mental health expert cau tioned Monday against "kidding ourselves that newly developed tranquilizing drugs will empty mental hospitals.". Dr. Howard D. Fabing, Cin- sinnati neuropsychiatrist, warn ed there still were many forms of mental illness about which nothing is known. "These chronic neurological and psychiatric diseases are caused by factors yet unknown and fill half our hospital beds," he said. Dr. Fabing made the statement before the American College of Apothecaries at its an nual meeting here. He said new "ataractic drugs" quiet certain overactive pa tients and tranquilize some of the disturbed but emphasized that causes of many mental dis eases still must be learned be fore mental hospital beds are va cated. 'Jine' Em' Says Red "You take two young comers in our field like Elvis Presley and Carl Perkins, why, they're basically more rock-and-roll than country. But they're making the kind of records the juke boxes want. "And as they say, if you can't fight 'em, jine 'em. I cut my first rhythm record back in 1950 and am still cutting 'em. Right now, Burl Ives is the only singer who's making any money on truly folk stuff and even he makes records like 'Blue Tail Fly' in tempo." - There'll be no turning back either, thinks Red. "What has happened of course," he explain ed, "is that things like TV and radio have brought the country closer together. The fellow down in the hill country sees the same program as the man in the city. - "You go out in the rural areas and you'll see TV aerials all over the place. In some places, the sets cost more than the houses. "That lazy, bewhiskered, rag ged character we used to think of as a hillbilly just doesn't exist. What with television and radio and all, it's getting real hard to find anybody who's even illiterate anymore."
