Coffee Maker Burns Hole in Stand, Desk A coffee maker left turned on ! at the Kennedy second hand tore, 1603 North Riverside ave., last evening burned through a wood stand and through the desk beneath, firemen reported. Firemen were dispatched to the store after city police re ported smoke there about 12:40 a.m. A hole about 10 inches in diameter was burned in the desk. An overheated flue resulted in minor damage to the wall, ceil ing and attic about 11 p.m. yes terday at the Robert Stayde home. 603 Benson st. Firemen said it was necessary to cut away part of the wall which was ignited from the flue. Westside station firemen were sent on the call. The case involves checks. To Salem. Portland Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ewaldsen, 20 Ross court, left yesterday for Salem and Portland. Ewaldson, presi dent of the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, will at tend a tax meeting in Salem. They will visit relatives in Fort land before returning to Medf ord Sunday. Condition 'Fair' Miss Peggy Clark, 15-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oral G. Clark, 2251 Barnett rd., is still in "fair" con dition at Sacred Heart hospital, it was reported today. She re ceived serious injuries Tuesday afternoon when the horse she was riding rolled on her. She suffered pelvic and internal in juries. Miss Clark is vice-president of the Rogue Rangers, a young people's riding group. CARD OF THANKS The Jackson County chapter. Attending Meeting Miss Mar- jorie Hattan and Glenn Klein, Jackson county 4-H club agents have returned from a confer ence of Oregon 4-H agents Tues day and Wednesday in Corvallis. At the conference the present 4-H program was evaluated and plans for its future growth and development were discussed. Gives Talk Miss Marjorie Hattan, Jackson county 4-H club agent, spoke Thursday night to Josephine county 4-H club leaders at a meeting in Grants Pass. Miss Hattan, who was a delegate to Norway in 1952 under the International Farm Youth Exchange program, told of her experiences and showed pictures of her trip. Obituaries VIOLA WELBORN Mrs. Viola Welborn, 58, died in a San Francisco, Calif., hos pital March 24. The former Viola Blackburn, she is survived by her husband, Forrest Welborn, Alameda, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Gladys Arnold, San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Robert Blaine Wolfe, Medford, and Karl M. Wolfe, Paynor, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Nora Bills, Medford; and two grandsons. Perl Funeral home is in charge of services here. Friday. April 6, 1956 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE FIFTEEN LEO ROWLAND Leo A. Rowland, 65, of Aber deen, Wash., died this morning in a local hospital. Conger-Morris funeral home is in charge of arrangements. THOMAS DENIKE Thomas E. Denike, 84, of Gold Hill, a veteran of the Spanish American war, died in a local hospital this morning. Chapel mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. Three Sentenced in District Court Here Three men were given county jail sentences and two of them were fined in district court Thursday for petty larceny. An other man was sentenced to jail for carrying a concealed weapon. Jimmy Day, 19, of 417 King st., was sentenced fo 90 days in jail; Arthur Charles Kappelman, 57, of 401 East 12th St., was sen tenced to one day in jail and was fined $15, and Eugene Frederick Casey, 39, of 2353 Allen Creek rd., Grants Pass, was sentenced to 10 days in jail and was fined $55. All three pleaded guilty to petty larceny. . Walter Edward Jenkins, 32, St. Joseph, Mo., was sentenced to Plans Office Tru-Mix Con crete company yesterday was is sued a permit to erect a S5,000 office bulding at 248 East Mc Andrews rd. Runaways State police last night apprehended two 14-year-old boys who apparently ran away from home in Eugene.
