Stevenson cancelled a Florida vacation to make a three-day California trip to consult with his campaign heads here amid reports of growing support for Sen. Estes Kefauver. Paul Ziffren, California Dem ocratic national committeman and a Stevenson backer, said the June 5 California primary "is a do-or-die election" for the 1952 Democratic presidential candi date. "Stevenson has got to win here," Ziffren said. "But there is no question that he will win." Kefauver departed from In ternational airport here Tues day night after a five-day speech and hand-shaking tour of south ern California. He maintained fthe same breakneck pace here that supporters claim helped produce his upset victory over Stevenson in the Minnesota pri mary. Ziffren said he and State At torney General Edmund G. (Pat) Brown, state campaign manager for Stevenson, are neither 'fran tic nor panicky" about the Cali fornia primary. "Both Pat and I agree that , the situation is well in hand," ; Ziffren said. "Kefauver is doing ; a fine job, but I'm certain he is running for the vice - presi-: dency."
