TWO MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, March 25. 195S BUTTE'FALLS Couple Back From Vacation By JUNE TAUNTON Butte Falls Mr. and Mrs. William Edmondson just return ed from a two weeks vacation, spent motoring through Califor nia. They spent several days vis iting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Wade of Tracy, Calif. The Edmondsons spent a week visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baker of Long Beach. Mrs. Baker is a sister of Mrs. Edmondson. They visited Balboa, Knotts Berry farm, Disneyland and many other points of interest. En route home, they visited in San Jose, Calif., with friends. In Redding they visited with Mrs. Edmondson's brother and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Manford Rich mond. The adult class of the Butte Falls Community Bible church recently gave a pink and blue shower for Mrs. K. D. Crammer and Mrs. Roy Price. Those who attended were Mrs. Louis Crammer, Mrs. Albert Hofmann, Mrs. Phil Bringolf, Mrs. Ed Malloy, Mrs. L. C. Rich man, Mrs. Ted Fredenberg. Mrs. Charles Ferguson, Mrs. Albert Hartlerode, Mrs. Royce Cooley, Mrs. Ted Reddell, Mrs. Howard Simmonds, Mrs. Hank Davies, Mrs. William Edmundson and the two guests of honor. Games were played and refreshments were served. A cake baked by Mrs. Elga Abbott, and decorated in the form of a bassinett, was served with ice cream and cof fee. Albert Hofmann attended the California Oregon Hereford sale at the Fairgrounds Thursday, and came home the owner of a fine polled Hereford ' bull to be added to his herd at the Hof mann ranch near Butte Falls. Ted Reddell. of Butte Falls, entered Sacred Heart hospital on Monday for treatment of his back. Bttt liktd by militant ALL-BRAN were married at the Butte Falls Community Bible church on Saturday, March 10, by the Rev. Howard Simmonds. The wed ding took place at 2:30 p.m. Miss Myrtle Rambo, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, and John Bush, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. After the wedding, a reception was held at the home of the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Bush Sr. Among those present at the reception were John Cuddihy, of Yonkers, N.Y., an uncle of the bridegroom, and Peggy Cud dihy, his aunt, came from San Francisco to attend the wedding. The newlyweds went to Cres cent City, Calif., where they spent the weekend. They are now at home in the Kincaid apartments in Butte Falls. Bush is employed by the Med ford corporation. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sheppard motored to the coast last week where they visited friends in Newport, Ore. They spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Wimers and family. The two families have been friends for nearly 20 years. Mary Ann Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Wright of Butte Falls, visited her brother, Gene, in Tacoma, Wash., last week for a few days. Gene Wright is stationed there with the U.S. Navy. Mary Ann and Gene celebrat ed his birthday on March 12 by going to Seattle for a day, visit ing family friends. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Parker of Fort Worth, Tex., were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Orb Abbott, Butte Falls, for several days last week. They visited many friends while in the area. Mrs. Parker was the former Mary Hoef, and at one time was a resident of Butte Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Delmar and family of Ashland visited his mother, Mrs. Ernest Smith of Butte Falls, for several days. Also visiting Mr. and Mrs. Er nest Smith was Mr. and Mrs. Larry Rose and son Barry, of Medford, on Sunday. Mrs. Rose is a daughter of Mrs. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Scott and son, Rusty, motored to Salem last week to visit Mrs. Scott's mother, Mrs. J. Ackermann. Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Bartlett and children are spending the spring vacation with his mother, Mrs. C. A. Jenkins of Butte Falls. Bartlett attends Oregon Tech nical Institute in Klamath Falls. The school is having its spring vacation. Ernest Owen of Klamath, Calif., is a patient at the Sacred Heart hospital where he under went surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Owen were visiting her brother, Buck Sutton, and their son Lee Owen, who makes his home with the Suttons. F. E. "Manny" Poole suffered an injured knee while at work last week. He is under doctor's care and is much improved. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Harris drove to Eureka, Calif., over the week end to visit their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Clin ton Dale. Mrs. Vern Helbig, a former resident of Butte Falls living in Rogue River, was hospitalized last week in the Community hospital of Medford. Mr. and Mrs. Helbig are the proprietors of the Bridge cafe, in Rogue River. On Sunday, March 25, starting at 10 a.m., there will be a pre Easter ham shoot, at the Butte Falls Gun club on the Rancheria road. There will be both rifle end trap shooting. Prizes will include hams and fishing equip ment. The Mt. Pitt club will operate a food concession for anyone who might get hungry. The pub lic is invited. The Butte Falls Community Bible church sponsored a skating party for the Junior Sunday school class, last Saturday at the Ashland skating rink. Among those who attended the party were Jim and Martin Lytle, Tom and Edith Wright, Donnie and Terry Ash, Phil Crammer, Tommy Armstrong, Valerie Bringolf, Darlene Ed mondson, Martha Dalton and Robin Simmonds. A few members of the adult class accompanied the young sters. They were Mr. and Mrs. Britt Ash, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lytle, Albert Hofmann and Ross Arndt. Construction on the audito rium of the Butte Falls Commu nity Bible church has progressed nicely. The sub-flooring has been laid, and the installation of a new oil heating system has been completed. Robert Tracy, of Butte Falls, has returned from a prolonged visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Tracy Sr. of Aspen, Colo. While he was home, he was stricken with the flu, and was ill for nearly a week. Tracy is employed by the U.S. Forest Service in Batte Falls. Lee Abbott, son of Mr. and Mrs. Orb Abbott, left Tuesday for Portland, where he will take his physical examination for en tering the Army. He will be sta tioned at Fort Ord, Calif., for his basic training. Keith Cooley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Royce Cooley, was induct ed into the Navy. He will receive his boot training in San Diego, Calif. An "anticipation" shower was held for Mrs. Lee Jolliffe on MarchlS at the home of Mrs. Les Casey. Hostesses were Miss Myrtle Rambo and Miss Marlene Casey. Attending were Mrs. Don C. Smith, Mrs. Alva Webster, Mrs. Don Jolliffe, Mrs. Virgil Conley, Mrs. Elga Abbott, Mrs. Royce Cooley, Mrs. R. L. "Bud" Irwin, Mrs. Les Casey, Mrs. Charles Ferguson, Mrs. Dean Bush Jr., Miss Pat Irwin, Miss Mary Ann Wright, Miss Marlene Casey, Miss Myrtle Rambo and the guest of honor, Mrs. Le Jolliffe. After games were played and refreshments served, Mrs. Jol liffe opened the many gifts. Mrs. Jolliffe was the former Char lene Ferguson. Mr. and Mrs. Marden Pillette and family of Klamath Falls, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Page Stauffer. Mrs. Pillette is a niece of Stauffer. Mrs. Bruce Pingle has gone to Pasadena, Calif., to be with her sister who is seriously ill. Mrs. Pingle and her husband are the owners of the Butte Falls Gen eral store. '!; ' I WHEEEE! Actress Anna Magnani throws up her arms in jubilation in her Rome, Italy, apartment after hearing that she was named "best actress of the year" in Holly wood. She received Oscar for role in "The Rose Tattoo." SH ADYCOVE-TRAI L Home Extension Unit Meets By EVALYN P. WATSON Shady Cove-Trail The Shady Cove Home Extension unit met for the March meeting at the home of Mrs. Lick Bartuss on Rogue River dr., with a good at tendance. Mrs. Cora Lane pre sented a program on Ceylon. Members and guests present were the Mesdames Ted Daw, Isabel Wunderlich, Kenneth Paulson, Jerry Hicks, Max Hawks, Dolf Larson, O. C. Krotz, Preston Smallwood, Wil liam Bishop, Ralph Lane, Wil liam Shepherd, Edward Hous ton, Richard Pfeifer, Floyd Kel ley, Travis Littlefield, Carroll Watson, and the hostess. The Shady . Cove-Trail Lady Lions will sponsor a joint rum mage, plant and food sale on Saturday, April 28, at the Shady Cove cleaners. The proceeds will go toward a college scholarship to one student from this area attending either the Eagle Point or Prospect High schools. Any- Mr. and Mrs. Claude Moore, Mrs. Tincye Murray, a sister of Mrs. Moore, and Miss Mary Shu bert, all of Butte Falls, went on an extended motor tour through southern California during the school vacation. Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Murray and Miss Shubert are teachers at the Butte Falls elementary school, s Miss Shubert visited her grandmother in San Diego, and also many friends in the area. The group visited many places of interest including Knotts Ber ry farm, Disneyland Tiajuana. Harold Arnold, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Arnold, is home to spend the spring vacation. He at tends Oregon Technical Institute at Klamath Falls. Circuit Court Rooms Major Annex Job Left Completion of the circuit court rooms on the courthouse annex third floor is the only remaining major project before" construction and remolding of the courthouse and annex are finished. County court members said yesterday final adjustments concerning the annex are being made with Architect Ben Todd and that the construction con tract is practically fulfilled. A small remodeling job in the old district court office, which will house part of the county health department, will also be completed soon. Construction of the annex was begun in June, 1954, and the first offices moved into the new addition in August, 1955." The project will cost the county an estimated $418,500, plus $50,000 for architectural fees and furnishings, according to an earlier report from the court. Tree Improvement Seminar Scheduled The first of a series of forest tree improvement seminars will be held at the office of Medford corporation, North Pacific high way at 9 a.m., Monday, March 26. The second day of the two-day session will be spent at the Med co tree farm. The meeting here will be the first of five to be held in the douglas fir belt of western Ore gon and Washington between March 26 and April 5. Others will be at Springfield and Ver nonia in Oregon, and at Aber deen and Port Gamble in Washington. The meetings are sponsored by the Industrial Forestry asso ciation as part of a long-term forest tree improvement pre gram under the leadership of Dr. John W. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Watson and family visited with Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Clifford and family of Medford March 21. Mrs. Alberta Hughes has re turned to Riddle, Ore., where she teaches school after spend ing the spring vacation with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Messecar of Trail. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Graham and children, DeLoy, Glenn and Brent visited briefly in Shady Cove during the spring vacation. Russell teaches in the grade school at Empire. Mr. and Mrs. Pat McFadden of Grants Pass were visitors on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Dolf Larson of Shady Cove. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Leekey and daughter," Susie, have returned from the extended trip which they took to Mexico. Mrs. John Hosteller and daughter Zoe Ann, of Gales Creek, Ore., were house guests of Mrs. Hostetler's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Travis Littlefield of Rogue River dr., Shady Cove, and also visited with Mrs. Hos tetler's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Eastgate of Med ford. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Warren and family of Shady Cove are renting the Eastgate residence. The 4-H club of Trail will hold a food sale at the Shady Cove cleaners on Saturday, March 24. A pre-Easter food sale will be held on Saturday, March 31, at the Shady Cove cleaners spon sored by Our Lady of Fatima club. Local Pear Recipes Featured in Festival Southern Oregon pears will be featured on a "Coast to Coast Cookup" food festival in Pel ham, N.Y., according to a report from the Rogue Valley Traffic association. The sponsoring group request ed recipe booklets and promo tional material on Rogue River valley pears to include with other regional foods from across the country. Material was sent to arrive in time for the event April 12. The letter of inquiry express ed interest in the pear industry, the Rogue River valley and sur rounding area. The application of the princi ples of genetics, widely used in the improvement of agricultural plants and animals, to improve forest trees grown on private tree farms will be one of the goals of the program, according to W.
