SIX MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Potato Soup Meal Tonight To Aid German School Today at 7 p.m., First Church of God members will serve a meal consisting of potato soup J and crackers to aid in construe-1 ting an interdenominational j school in Fritzlar, Germany., The meal will be served at the ! church, Haven and Holly sts. i The project was underwritten by National Youth Fellowship personnel for the amount of $10,000. State and local youth groups are sponsoring potato soup dinners, characteristic of meals at Fritzlar, in order to raise the needed funds for the school. A color-sound filmstrip, "This is Our. Church," will be shown at the first Church of God, Sun day, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. The film will denote the advanced work of the church on a nation al and international level. It depicts the growth of the Chris tian Brotherhood hour, Foreign miions. Gospel Trumpet Pub lishing work, and the rise of new church buildings across the country. The public is invited. Breakfast Planned By Methodist Men; Schedule Given Holy week observances will begin at First Methodist church Palm Sunday, March 25 with a men's communion breakfast scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Follow ing the service of Holy com munion in the Meeker Memorial chapel, the men will breakfast together in Wesley hall, and Dr. Raymond Balcomb, minister of the church, will speak on the theme "Nuclear Christians." E(r. Balcomb will speak at the 9:30 and 11 a.m., services of worship the fourth sermon in his Lenten series on "The Story About Jesus," dealing this week with "His Mighty Works." The choral contata, "The Holy City" by Gaul, will be presented by the 50 voice Chancel choir under direction of Mrs. C. R. Adamson at -7:30 plm. Piano accompanist will be Mrs. Jerry Sherman, and Mrs. Richard Schuchard will be at the organ console. On weekdays the church is cooperating with the Medford Ministerial association in pre senting Holy week services at noon time i the Craterian the atre. On Good Friday the tra ditional three-hour service, from noon until 3 p.m., under the auspices of the Medford Min isterial association, will be held in this church. A service of Holy communion, in commemoration of the Last Supper of Christ with his dis ciples is scheduled for Thurs day, March 29 at 8 p.m. Dr. Balcomb will preach. QUANABUSH Assembly Speaker Assembly of God To Open Revival A Resurrection revival with the Dr. and Mrs. E. T. Quaken bush, of Costa Mesa, Calif., will begin Wednesday, March 28 at 7:45 p.m., at the Medford As sembly of God, 1108 West Main st., according to the pastor, the Rev. F. Wildon Colbaugh. Dr. Quanabush has served pas torates in several eastern and midwestern states. He is a former dance band player, recording vocalist, and trombonist of radio and televis ion, Dr. Quanabush. Together with Mrs. Quanabush, who is a musician,1 he will sing and play selections at each of the revival meetings. The meetings will continue daily at 7:45 p.m. for two weeks except on Saturdays and Mon days. Students in the public schools of the city are invited to attend the services closest to their school. They may be excused fom school to attend upon pre sentation of a signed note from a parent or guardian stating they want the student to attend one of the Good Friday serv ices, church officers announced. The Rev., Thomas McCamant, president of the Medford Minis terial association, expressed the desire of the Ministerial associa tion that both churchgoers and non-chuichgoers will attend the special Good Friday services. Palm Sunday Rites Set at St. Mark's The blessing and distribution of palms, traditionally associat ed with Palm Sunday and Christ's entry ' into Jerusalem, will be observed at both the 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. services at St. Mark's Episcopal church Sunday. According to historic practice, the palms, fashioned in to small crosses are preserved until the following Ash Wednes day when they are burned to ashes, hence the name "Ash Wednesday". The palm crosses will also be distributed to the church school at 9:30 a.m. An event in the 11 a.m. service will be dedication of a silver baptismal bowl pre sented to the church by the Altar guild. Appropriate Palm Sunday music will be presented by the choir, including the anthem. Holy week will be observed with celebrations of Holy Com munion Monday and Wednes day at 11 a.m., and Tuesday and Thursday at 8 a.m. On Fri day the usual three hour medita tion on the cross will be held from 12 noon to 3 p.m. The theme will be, "Seven Last Words from the Cross." Dr. Vernon Grounds, president of the Denver Theological sem inary of Denver, Colo., will be guest minister at the Easter Emphasis week of the First Bap tist church. The services which will begin Sunday at 7:30 p.m. will be centered on the general theme. "In The Shadow of the Cross." Dr. Grounds who has received recognition as an educator has served as a teacher and lecturer in colleges and seminaries throughout the country. Presbyterians To Make Offering At Sunday Service Palm Sunday has been desig nated by the First Presbyterian church as the day of sacrificial giving to the "One Great Hour of Sharing". Over the past weeks the young people and adults of the church have been accumulat ing sacrifical offerings at their homes, and on Sunday these will be grought to the church and dedicated to the needy peoples of the world. Last year the total offerings given to the "One Great Hour of Sharing" by all denomiations in the United States amounted to $1,160,014, which did much to aid refugees and alleviate suf fering around the world. At the first service this Sun day fifteen young people will be publicly welcomed as members of the church. They are David Adams, Joel Gregory, Judy Harper, James Henson, Donna Hussong, Richard Lichti, Sheila Niedermeyer, Ernest Pathmann, Gordon Pathmann, Dick Rags dale, Rebecca Rowan, Kaylee Ruhl, Larry Ryerson, Martha Sanborn, and Carrol Wray. These young people haVe been in communicant's class for the past several weeks. Dr. D. K. West will speak at both services on the Palm Sun day theme, "The Triumphant King". The women's triple trio, composed of mesdames Robert Cunningham, S ta n 1 e y Lacy, Wayne Jamison, Ralph Thomp son, Jack Sanborn, Warren Wolf, John Mason, John Col lins; Otto Emig. and John Hen son will sing. They will be led by Mrs. Harvey" Field and ac companied by Chandler Drew. In the evening at seven o'clock, Dr. West will speak to the adults on "Joshua The Man Who Chose God". Senior High Westminister fellowship will see films and have a discussion on mission work in Africa. Cross" with Dr. Vernon Grounds, President of Denver Seminary Friends Begin New Schedule Of Services To accomodate more worship ers, two morning worship ser vices will be held at the Friends church beginning Sunday. At 9:45 a.m., there will be Sunday school for all except junior high, high school and college age young people. They will attend the worship service which will be geared for young people, with youth choir and ushers. Adults, too, are invited. At 11 a.m. is the regular wor ship hour, with Sunday- school being held for junior high, high school and college young peo ple. Pastor Clynton Crisman will give - Palm Sunday message at both services. Music director will be Dr. Wayne Roberts, with Mrs. Orrin Ogier as organist and Mrs. Harold Sharp, pianist. At the 9:45 a.m. worship, "The Palms" will be sung by a youth soloist. Mrs. Clynton Crisman will direct the music; Miss Avad- na Peterson will be organist and Miss Virginia Walters, pianist. Speaker for Sunday school op ening assemblies will be Dr. Al vin Roberts, who returned this week from a month's tour of Central and South American countries, where he visited Friends mission stations. Other services Sunday will be Junior, Intermediate and Senior Christian Endeavor at 6:30 p.m., and worship at 7:30 p.m. When an organ-piano duet will be pre sented and pre-Easter message will be given by the pastor. "Quaker Hour!' is broadcast ov er station KMED at 9:30 p.m. Nazarene Church Observance Set Members of the First Church of the Nazarene, Holly and First sts., will observe the Lord's Sup per in a Palm Sunday service Sunday at 11 a.m. A group of young people will be received into the church by the pastor, the Rev. Raymond W. Hurn, preceding the communion. Music for the service will in clude a number by the Sanctu ary choir. The Sunday evening feature at 7:30 p.m., will include a duet presented by Mrs. Mil dred Lindell and Mrs. Dorothy Rees, and the pastor's sermon, enttiled, "Before the Cross."
