Attorney for Administrator McKay Asks BLM, O&C Funds Restored Washington U,R) Interior Secretary Douglas McKay to day asked the Senate Appropria tions Committee to restore funds cut by the House for Bureau of Land Management operations and for construction of roads on O&C lands in Oregon. In a letter to the committee, which now is considering a sup plemental appropriations bill, McKay requested that two mil lion dollars be restored for O&C road construction and $881,700 for Bureau of Land Management operations. McKay said in his letter to the committee that approval of funds to accelerate timber sales on federal lands, "will result in sales of 65 million board feet of badly needed timber." He also noted the economic importance of the lumber industry to certain sections of the country and de clared that "sound conservation dictates that we do not overcut, but neither do we cut below the optimum sustained yield allowance." Thoughts set flittering while snowbound in the springtime: New Yorkers mushing with frosty faces through more than a foot of snow, with drifts driven waist-high by gale winds, finally reach the haven of the subway and then find themselves staring at the .latest placard in a series designed to make subway riders a happy, happy breed: "You may not go to heaven, but you can live in New York." It's enough to drive a man to walk. Next month is due to be an exciting one. "National Laugh Week" will be followed by a cou ple of the most celebrated mar riage ceremonies of the decade. And let's have no wisecracks from cynical bachelors. Grace Kelly will find out that a man's castle is his home and she might as well face it, cold drafts and all. What would you give the Prince and Princess Rainier for a wedding present? A friend of ours suggests an apropos gift would be a piggy bank, so they can save up for something that all residents of Monaco are hop ing' for a Rainierbirth day.
