o TIN MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Soviet Leaders Prepare Decade for Artti-Sfalin Editor's note: The following dis patch was delayed 18 hours hy Soviet censors before it was cleared. By HENRY SHAPIRO United Press Correspondent O Moscow (Delayed) (U.R) The Soviet Union's peaceful but powerful fourth revolution ap peared today to be subsiding into a dogged campaign to erase Stalinism even if it takes 10 years. And it may. Soviet leaders estimate it will take something like a decade to carry out the intensive educa O tional plan to remove the last vestiges of Stalinism from the public consciousness. They are determined to see it through. This is a . purposeful, cautious and skillfully directed revolt from the top to the bottom and the leaders are content for the g campaign to move slowly now. One-Man Rule Te revolt is not against Jo sef Stalin personally but against the phenomenon of Stalinism which is euphemistally called "the cult of personality." It is understood that the main burden of Nikita Khruschev's speech to the closed session of ihe 20th Communist party Con gress here Feb. 28 was a con demnation of tyrannical, one man absolution with its attend ant evils. Stalin's misdeeds were cited to illustrate the dangers of one- EAGLE POINT Church Given By PEARL L. HENDERSON Eagle Ppint A business meetine of the members of Eagle Point Civic club, that had not . met since May 20, 1943, was held- at the home of Mrs. G. H. Young, Eagle Point, in the after noon of Friday, March 16, with ten of the old members present. The purpose - of the meeting was to decide on what was to be done with the money that was still in the bank from their last meeting. Mrs. Mattie Brown, president, conducted the meeting and Mrs. Young was acting secretary. A motion was made that the money and two war bonds be donated to Eagle Point Commun ity church for payment on the Hammond organ they recently purchased. Another motion made Malenkov Enjoying Tour of Britain's Modern Plants Birmingham, England (U.R) Jovial Georgi Malenkov set out today to inspect two more Brit - ish power plants and engage in more light-hearted-small talk with British workers. The grinning minister of pow er stations in the Soviet Union made it clear he has enjoyed the idle chatter with Britons as much or more than his official inspections of machinery. Three-Mile Walk Hegwas attracting almost as many crowds as a matinee idol and loving every minute of it. Today's agenda included a vfSit to Hams Hill Power Station in Birmingham and the English Electric Works at Stafford where the Cranberra jet bomber is made. The tour schedule called for a walk of more than three miles among some of Britain's most modern plants for the pudgy former Sviet premier. People More Important Malenkov said after power sta tion visits and chats with Brit ish men and women Tuesday that it had been the original purpose of his visit to see both people and machinery. "But the people are more im portant than the machinery," he said. After 500 persons surrounded Malenkov at the sprawling Gen eral Electric Co. plant in Birm ingham, shaking his hand and having their picture taken with him, the beaming Russian pro claimed that it was his happiest day in Britain. 190,000 Acres of Winter Wheal Seen Portland (U.R) Oregon farmers intend to plant 190,000 acres of spring wheat this year, according to the Oregon crop and livestock reporting service. The report said that acreage would be 35 per cent above last year and the largest acreage since 1953. Total wheat acreage, however, including fall seeded wheat remaining for harvest, would be the same as in 1955. The service said many fall seeded crops of small grains were frozen out during the win ter and would have to be reseed ed this spring. Intended plant ings of oats were up eight per cent, largest acreage since 1950, and barley planting would ex ceed last year's record acreage by two per cent. One-half of the pedestrian deaths in the U.S. occur from 6 p.m. to midnight. man rule. At the same time, Khrushchev, secretary of the Communist party, dwelled at length on Sta lin's extraordinary merits as a revolutionary leader before his assumption of the personal dictatorship. Apparently this left no doubt that Stalin will have a place in history as one of the"" major architects of the Soviet regime. Speech Being Read But equally it made it un mistakeably clear that Stalinism will not be repeated. Khrush chev urged the exertions of all necessary efforts to prevent a recurrence. ' That is why Khrushchev, on behalf of the newly elected party Central Committee, de manded that his speech be given the widest publicity. It was the and is being read now from 10 000 platforms so that virtually every Soviet citizen is aware of its contents. Owing to the sensational char acter of the revelations and the obvious painfulness of its impli cations, the Soviet leadership apparently decided to treat the ter and not to publicize it abroad. Freedom of Discussion Chances of internal disorder apparently are minimal. The campaign against the cult' Club's Assets was that the dishes and silver ware also be donated to the church. Both motions were seconded and carried by unani mous vote. A motion was made that the Civic club be disbanded. It was seconded and carried. The club was organized early in the year of 1917 and met once each month thereafter until May, 1943. Mrs. Ruth Shama, who was with 'Burelson's' for several months, and the 'Towne' beauty salon for a year and a half in Medford, took over the Oasis beauty salon on March 13 and is open for business every day of the week. A surprise housewarming party was given Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cearly and family of Eagle Point, Monday, March 19, with about 40 guests present. They had but recently moved into their new house. The party came as a complete surprise to them. They were presented with a walnut coffe table, and money to buy some other articles for their home, also with good wishes for many years of happi ness in their home. After a. time of friendly chatter, piano music and singing, refreshments of cake, cookies and coffee were served. Construction Starfsx On Shop Buildings Construction of two pre-fabri-cated steel buildings to house Bergman's shop for spring repair and welding has started at 3012 Crater Lake highway at Delta Waters rd. The buildings, one 50 by 100 feet and the other 25 by 40 feet, will be occupied within a month, according to D. J. Bergman, owner. Increased business and lack of space were reasons for the change, he said. The present structure at 108 South Bartlett st. has been pur chased by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Culbertson, Medford, Bergman said. Bergman has been in business here for several years, operat ing the shop established by his father, the late Walter Bergman.
