turned missionary from the
Philippine islands, is scheduled
to speak Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
in the First Church of the Naz
arene, Holly and First sts.
He will also speak Sunday
morning in the Ashland Church
of the Nazarene, and Sunday
evening in the Prospect "Chapel
in the Pines." The Saturday
night meeing will be a Zone
rally of Southern Oregon
churches, and will follow work
shop sessions held in the after
noon by the missionary organ
izations of the respective
churches.
A veteran missionary, Rev.
Pattee was formerly active in
the work among the people of
China until the Communist con
trol of that country forced him
to leave. Restricted from China,
he moved to the Philippine Is
lands in 1950. He recently ar
rived in the United States for
his third furlough.

the States are Mrs. Pattee and
their youngest daughter, Grace
Ann. While in this country, the
Pattees will make their home

Two new kindergarten classes
will open at the First Methodist
church Sunday, March 18 to ac
commodate the increasing en
rollment and attendance, accord
ing to Mrs. Gordon C. Morris,
superintendent of the children's
division of the church school.
At 9:30 a.m., a class for six-year-old
children will be estab
lished under the leadership of
Mrs. Riley C. Cook. The 11:30
a-m., Kindergarten class will be
for children from 4 to 6 years
of age and is established under
the leadership of Mrs.' Frank
Van Dyke. The classes are in
addition to the preschool classes
already, being held, church offi

Guest Speaker
The Rev. Darrel Berg, minis

Holy Week Theme

is the third in a series leading

About 30 new members were
received into the church a week
ago by the session of the church,
and Sunday at the 11 a.m. serv
ice adults will be publicly wel
comed. At . the Palm Sunday
service young people will be re
ceived at the first worship hour.
College-age young people are
asked to notice that a new group
is being formed for their age
named the Geneva fellowship.
Young people up to the age. of
25 years ' are invited to attend
the 9:45 a.m. worship service,
and then make their way to the
Chapel mortuary where fellow
ship and a study group will be
held. The Rev- John Reynolds

The Senior High Westminster
fellowship evening meeting will
be led by Virginia Carter on the
topic, "The New Look in Mis
sions." During the month of
March the group has been study
ing missions around the world,
and this week's meeting will be
a discussion of the new strategy
for contemporary missions in the
ecumenical church.

church, he will speak as a rep
resentative of other Medford
churches. Mrs. Ivan Burton will
sing at this service and Richard
Henselman, chairman of the
board of trustees will give the
welcome. The Rev. Thomas Mc
Camant, minister of the . Con
gregational church will give the
benediction atjboth services.

To Close Program
Next Sunday evening will
mark ,the end of the "Adventure
in Missions," which has been
the center of interest at East
wood Baptist church, North
Keene Way at Ridgeway dr.,-for
the past six weeks. The evening
will begin with a snack supper
at '6 p.m., study classes for the
primary, junior, junior high and
adul age groups-will, follow, at
6:30 p m., and a concluding pro
gram of sharing will begin at
7:20 p.m. Theme for the study
group lias concerned Indian
Americans.
At the 11 a.m.. service, the

Denver, Colo., will be speaker
Monday, April 2, at 7:30 p.m-
On Tuesday sessions will be
held at 10 a.m., and 2 p.m. Miss
Lillian Swanson, of Ontario,
Canada, will speak at the morn-,
ing period and will represent
the Scripture Press, of Chicago,'
111. Mrs. Emma Davis, -Portland,
will speak in the afternoon and
will represent the Gospel Light
Press, of Glendale,. Calif.
Emphasis will be given dur
ing the convention to training
and materials for. vacation Bible
schools. All interested workers
should plan to attend the three
sessions.
Miss Swanson and Mrs. Davis
will also appear on .Tuesday;
April 3 in Ashland at the First
Baptist church at 10 a.m. and
2 p.m. They will alternate in
appearing at the two churches.

Dr. Grounds was born and
educated in New Jersey- He is
a graduate of Rutgers university
and the Faith Theological sem
inary, and has taught in King's
college in Delaware and at the
American Seminary of the Bible
and the Hawthorne Bible school
in New Jersey. In 1951, the
speaker became dean of the Con
servative B a p t i s-t Theological
seminary in Denver, Colo., and
in January of this year he was
made president of the same
school.
