Elliott, Medford in surance man, announced today he is a candidate for delegate-at-large to the Republican conven tion in San Francisco in August. He was a delegate-at-large to the l'9B convention in Philadel phia, and at the 1952 conven tion, at which he seconded the nomination of Dwight D. Eisen hower. t Stale GOP Chairman Elliott was state chairman of the Republican party during the Eisenhower campaign, and was formerly chairman of the Multnomah county Republican . Central committee before mov ing to Medford in 1951. ' He was state chairman of the Young Republican federation in 1946, and has served as a pre cinct committeeman for 10 years. - ' ' . A graduate of the tlniversily of Oregon, he is associated with the Connecticut Mutual Life in surance company as district manager here. During World War II he served in the Army in France, Germany and Austria, and is presently battalion com mander of the 104th infantry re serve (vision. Gold Hill Grange Suggests Names For City's Schools v Gold Hill The names of A. J. Hanby, 435 Holly st, Med ford and the late Margaret E. Patrick were chosen this week by the Gold Hill Grange to be recommended forp naming two Gold Hill grade Schools. The two were selected after research into educational history of the community. ; Mrs. Patrick served the Gold Hill school and schools of ad jacent communities for more .than 40 years, starting her career in the early 1880's. She taught at the Dardanelles, Foote's Creek, Sardine Creek and Sam's Valley. Teaches in Gold Hill At the turn of the century, she started teaching in Gold Hill in the building which is ,the pres ent city hall. -The site of the new four-room school which .the Grange wishes to bear her name is a part of her "old home place." Just back of the school is Patrick riffle in the Rogue river. Hanby, whose name is being gubmitted for the present school, taught in Gold Hill from ,1909 to 1911. During (that time, two additional years of schooling were included in the education program, making high school education1 available to residents. Enrollment for the entire four grades of high school was 20 pupils. Other names submitted include Hillside, Riverside, Beacon Hill, Echo Mountain, Valley View, Riverview and Riverside. The names will be selected tonight at a public meeting. Anderson Elected Head of Toasfmasfers Tom Anderson this week was named president of the Medford Toastmasters club at the semi annual election of officers at the Medford hotel. He succeeds Adam Richter. Other officers elected are Murray Dumas, administrative vice-president; Larry Horten, educational vice-president; Wes Nissen, secretary-treasurer; and Jack Cannon sergeant-at-arms. Officers will be installed early next month. - o Miller to Speak At Discussion Meet Dr. Clifford Miller,' assistant professor of social science, Southern Oregon college, will be guest speaker at a meeting of the Young Adult Discussion group Sunday, March 11, at 8 p.m. at the home of Miss Nancy Lambo, 1389 South Peach st.
