Govern men Expa nds Machinery To Enforce New Waqe-Hour Law Washington U.R) The gov ernment is expanding its wage hour law enforcement machin ery to handle the extra head aches expected when the federal jninimum wage . goes from 75 cents to $1 an hour on Mar. 1. Administrator Newell Brown told the United Press the agency is opening 27 new permanent field offices and adding 325 men to its field investigating staffs. This will bring the number of offices to 68 and the staff to 800 men. He said ' the expansion is in tended to assure that there will be no willful'evasion of the new minimum Congress voted last year. Main Job Education - His staff's main job, he said, will be to "educate" employers and employees alike on provi sions of the act and how it af fects them. The program, al ready underway, includes spot TV and radio announcements for use by local stations. The wage-hour law . applies to some 24,000,000 workers en gaged in or closely allied with interstate commerce. People who like to run other people's; lives and., meddle in their affairs are not easily rwr$mmm stopped, no matter what m e a n s' a r e used. I know it is impossible to take a firm stand, as. you suggested. The past 20 years have taught me the only way you can win is to put your foot down the very first lime a mother-in-law butts in. (A) I do hot agree that the only way you can handle a per son who tries to interfere with your affair is to put down your foot at the very first. Also, t do not agree the advice I gave was "lousy." What fits one problem may not fit another. . Some people get along better with others when they use one set of tactics and some handle problems , better with another. Just because the advice I gave someone . else would not have worked in your case does : not mean it would not work in other cases. Agrees With Stand I do agree with you, however, in the stand that you take re garding interference from in laws. But you can be polite and firm at the same time. You do not have to get into arguments and say things that will hurt people or cause family friction. ; When in-laws try to interfere, the best approach is to listen to what they have to say, as some times their advice, based ,. on greater experience, is well worth considering. Then, if it is ap parent their advice" or sugges tions will not fit this particular case, you can politely say so, change the subject, and avoid all arguments.
