Robert Voegtly, lumberman and president of the Kiwanis Foundation of Medford, will have the role of George Wash ington and Ed Barnett, television station sales manager, will play tha part of Abraham Lincoln next week in the eighth annual Kiwanis Kapers. Birthdays of the two famed American presidents will be among events observed in the Medford service club's presenta tion of "Holiday Review." Irving Allen will play opposite Voegtly as Martha Washington and Stanley Jones will be La fayette. Second act of the Kap ers will portray a ship's cruise and John Dellenback will be captain of the ship and master of ceremonies for the act. Dr. Abner Clark, Club Presi dent Irv Mirick, Tom Anderson and Jack Walker will have a fast song and dance routine in the opening act which will also have a group of air line hostesses 'in a fluorescent tiller number. In a Mexican holiday sketch E. Ron Rice will be a street car conductor, Del Wright and Ed Hoppe tourists, Dick Phair, a peon, Tony Manno a washer woman, and Dick House an in ebriate. Clark, Anderson and Bill Sing Ier will be beachcombers in an other scene. Soloist Parts Rice and Clark again will have soloist parts in the Kapers and other solo vocalists will in clude Mrs. Dorothy Veal, Mrs. Donna Hogan and Dave Ashton. A girls' quartet, the Mello Maids, will appear in the pro duction. Members of the group are Elizabeth Shields, Virginia Larson, Carol Wickstrom and Mary Durham. . The Medford Senior High school dance band will be the orchestra for the show and 24 girls of the high school will be in dance chorus. More than 60 Kiwanians and their wives are to be in the song chorus which will have a more important place in the program than in past Kapers. Southern Oregon college girls will be in an Easter Parade style review sponsored by Mann's department store. The Easter number will wind up the first action in an unusual man ner. . . " Director of the production is Don .Hansen from Lassen Thea trical productions, Los Angeles. Proceed Projects Kiwanians will use the pro ceeds for their projects for un derprivileged children for boys and girls activities, in Jackson county',, . The funds are used ,to provide medical treatment, den tal work, eye' examinations and glasses and hearing tests for youngsters, stage an Easter egg hunt, support Boy and Girl Scout, YMCA and Salvation Army activities and to aid other youth programs. A program has been adopted by the federal government pro curement offices whereby items or services may be procured by immediate negotiations from firms in disaster areas, officials said. Spiritualist Ends Romance Between GKost and Pretty Bobbysoxer London (U.R) A three- week "out of this world" ro mance between a pretty cockney bobbysoxer and her ghost boy friend was over today. At least her family hoped it was. Spiritualist Harry Hanks claimed after a tumultuous one hour seance attended by news men and angry police, that he had freed 15-year-old Shirley Hitchings from her sweetheart, Donald, a ghost. , Shirley herself admitted she felt 'so different." ' "All of a sudden I : felt my mind go clear," the teen-ager said. "I'm as happy as can be." At first Shirley was reluctant to end the romance ', but she changed , her mind after the strangest in the history of ghost chasing. . , - Despite warnings that public ity might ruin everything, "the seance was conducted in the presence of a crowd of news men, Hanks, three other med iums and Shirley's father who thought the entire ghostly ro mance was . ."nonsense." - At one point newsmen made so much commotion police came banging on the doors .to relay neighbors' complaints and plead for quiet. Shirley's father, a motorman, admitted the seance was "un canny. "I couldn't feel the spirit leav ing but I felt the power. I'm very happy about it. I won't be kept awake any longer,", he said muffling a yawn. Hanks said now that Donald has quit following Shirley, he Ghost Talked To Young Girl By Making Tapping Sounds By SHIRLEY HITCHINGS As Told To United Press London U.P.) It all started after I went to bed one night three weeks ago. ' I must have been in bed for 10 minutes when I felt someone near me. It was a strange sensa tion, and it frightened me. . ' Then the tapping began, and all of a sudden I knew it was trying to talk to me. . Brother Heard Tapping At first I screamed. My broth er came running and he heard the tapping too. Then I realized there was nothing to be afraid of. It was a feeling of love, and not fear, that surrounded Donald. . That's his name. He spelled it out for me, and told me he came from New Zealand. Most questions he answered just yes, no, or I don't know. It was two taps for no, one for yes, and three for I don't know. But he also spelled. I would point to letters on a piece of paper and Donald would tap when 1 cameto the right one. It was great fun having a ghost for a boy friend after I got used to it. But it got kind of complicated when he started throwing furniture around. ' That was last Saturday, and that was too much for Dad. It was bad enough for him, trying to get some sleep with all "that tapping, going on. But the tapping was the limit. Maybe it was the crucifix. Granny put it on the floor in her bedroom. Donald was very angry. He sometimes moved furni ture around before. But this time he threw a clock and some other things. . I went to the seance hoping that nothing would change. But it did, and I'm glad. I felt my mind go clear as Donald left. I'm as happy as can be. I feel so. different now. wouia - pronaDiy nave to set a job.
