Just about every housewife is an amateur archaeologist. The new nation's old land is a treasure chest of ancient relics which can be dug up just about at any doorstep. A typical victim of archaeolo gical fever is Mrs. Paula Arn old, who already has collected a blue glass jar of ancient Ro man vintage, a Phoenician pots herd and an ancient vault where bones once were placed. Mrs. Arnold says there is scarcely a home in this Israeli village without a Corinthian capital or broken pillar somewhere in a front garden. - This town is ' on the site of what used to be the city of Cae sarea Marittima, the place found ed by Herod in 25 B.C. and later made the capital of Judea by the Romans. Anything a housewife finds above ground, she may "keep. But anything dug up must be turned over to the government, which returns a portion to the finder. In that corner the contender Grace Kelly, soon to be Princess Grace of Monaco. The title at stake the pret tiest Princess of Europe. Going into her marriage to Prince Rainier on April 18, the pride of the House of Kelly is a heavy favorite to replace the pride of the House of Windsor as the beauty queen of Europe's royalty. ' This, perhaps, is only natural. LENTEN MEAL Here's a meal-in-one dish to help the Lenten cook. It features vegetables, shrimp and rice and yet is flexible enough for year round ' use. How could a mere handful of royal houses produce a beauty rivalling Hollywood's best? " ' x ' Odds on Grace - But as a man who has covered both trc.ining camps, London and Hollywood, I ' say the ' odds on Miss Kelly are too heavy. I once went into a restaurant in New York, nodded to Rita Gam; who used to be married to an old friend of mine, and went on to my own table only to be told that Rita was sitting with Grace Kelly. I turned around and took a good look at the pale blonde be side Rita. She was worth look ing at, all right, but" I had walk ed pasjt without noticing her and people can testify in a score or more cuuntries that its' not like me to miss a pretty girl. On the other hand I've always been aware : immediately : that Princess Margaret is in the room on the occasions we've picked the same night club. Obviously she broadcasts on. my frequen cy, but all other males in the vi cinity also seem to be . receiving the same message. , : Princess Is Pretty . Full face, I think Margaret is one of the prettiest girls I've ev er seen. Her complexion is fam ous, ter teeth perfect, her eyes immense and an unusual deep blue. v . Her , trouble is that she 'goes in for trick hair styles, which do not suit her. They are apt to em phasize that her : nose is a bit long in profile.. . Miss Kelly knows enough about cameras not to wear the wrong thing but even she has to be photographed carefully be cause of her square chin. My au thority for this is director Alfred Hitchcock. . She won't find the cameras al ways so kind when she is Prin cess Grace. European photogra phers sometimes delight in find ing odd angles. . It will be a contest worth watching. Princess Margaret's figure is as .celebrated as Miss Kelly's lack of same, For shape alone I would declare her the, winner.
