Damage was said to be minor. ... Boys Jailed Medford police jailed three juveniles from Klamath Falls, aged 15, 16 and 17, Friday in connection with the theft of hubcaps from a car owned by Leroy, W. Walland, route 2. One of the three ad mitted taking the hubcaps while the other two remained in the car, police said. . Prospect X-rays Wednesday evening, Feb. 22, has been set for Prospect chest x-ray day, according to , members of the Prospect Lions club and auxil iary, -who are sponsoring the project. Arrangements have been made at Sacred Heart hospital that the permanent x-ray center there be open from 7 to 9 p.m. for residents of the Prospect area. Manager Appointed Appoint ment of Sam Hersh as general manager of the Big Y Markets, Inc.,, was announced yesterday from the main office in Eugene by M. O. Bessonette. Hersh was formerly president of Frideger Grocery company, Ashland, and is still a member of the com pany's board of directors. The appointment was effective Feb. 15. Meet Tuesday Crater Lake chapter No. 16, Oregon State Employees association, will hold a special meeting at 8 p.m. Tues day, Feb. 21, at the carpenters' hall, 123V& West Main st. James B. Daniels, new executive sec retary, and other members of the executive staff from Salem will attend. Members of the Jo Jac chapter and employees of Jackson county also are invited, according to chapter officers. Fires Reported Medford Fire department sent trucks to three fires reported Friday. At 11:15 a.m., firemen investigated smoke at the John Selby residence, 507 Haven st., and found the cause to be an overloaded fuse box. Damage was confined to wiring, firemen reported. At 9:42 p.m. a rural pumper was sent to the Donald Butts residence, . 1380 Springbrook rd., where an over heated flue ignited the ceiling. Occupants had extinguished the blaze when firemen arrived. At 10:15 p.m. two trucks were sent, to the William Jeffery residence, 521 Mayette st. where a house fire was reported when the oc cupants returned home and found the house full of smoke. The cause was found .. to be a deep-well cooker that had been left turned on. No damage was reported. Two Are Injured In Traffic Crashes In County Friday Two men were injured in ac cidents in Jackson county Fri day, one when a car skidded and rolled over on Crater Lake high ay near Eagle Point and another when ne was struck by a car that failed to stop on icy ground. Thomas C. Quail, 29, Shady Cove, was reported in good con dition at Community hospital last night, following an accident at 8:45 p.m. Friday when he lost control of his car on Highway 62, near Eagle Point. Quail's car skidded and rolled over once, state police said. He received a broken jaw, and cuts and bruis es. C. F. Millfgan, 29, of 149 Wi mona way, received severe bruises Friday when he was struck by a car operated by Milo Blakely, Ashland, while burning trash behind the N and W Chain company, 3320 North Pacific highway. Unable to Stop Milligan said that Blakely had driven up behind him, apparent ly intending to frighten him, and had been unable to stop because of snow on the ground. Milligan was taken to Sacred Heart hospital- by Medford Ambulance service. A third accident about 8:45 a.m. Friday, also resulted from icy roads when a pickup operat ed by Lois Fay Kelley, 1629 Thomas rd., skidded at the inter section of Stewart ave. and New ton st. While Miss Kelley was phon ing for a wrecker her vehicle was struck by a vehicle operated by Roger Henry Flagg, route 2, box 13A, 'Jacksonville, accord ing to state police. Polk e said damage to both vehicles was slight. Buyer Returns Lewis Way burn, buyer for Mann's depart ment store, has returned from a weeks stay in San Francisco, where he purchased linens, bed ding and fabrics for the store. Son Born A son, their first child, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert: Boswprth in Eugene Friday, February 17. Mrs. Bos worth is the former Corinne Wing, daughter of Mrs. Cora Wing, 1020 Queen Anne ave., and her husband is a son of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. , Bosworth Jr., 2425 East Main st. Mrs. Bos worth received her degree in education from the University of Oregon in December, and her husband will be. - graduated from the university in '. June, completing a five-year course in architecture. Collisions -. Reported Two drivers were cited to police court Saturday following traffic acci dents. Paul Dale Vincent, 325 Effie st.7 was cited for no oper ator's license after a coupe he was driving and a station wagon operated by Earl Lionel Schliep, 523 South Ivy st., collided at Fourth st. and Central ave. Jack L. Potter, route 2, was cited for failure to yield right-of-way after his station wagon and a pickup truck driven by Albert W. Wood ward, 148b Ashland ave., collid ed at Third and Front sts. Also reported to police was a collis ion at Henry's Drive-in, North Riverside ave., involving a park ed car registered to R. Norris, 2710 Connell ave., and another vehicle which failed to stop. TOP NOTCH CAFES Jaycee Scrap Mefal Drive Starts Today The Medford Junior Chamber of Commerce will tour the city today for scrap metal and re turnable bottles as part of a cam paign to raise funds to maintain and rebuilld the Lake O' Woods summer camp. Residents are asked to place in front of their homes items con taining cast iron, tin, steel, brass, aluminum, lead, copper and au tomotive batteries. ' The camp provides under privileged children with super vised recreation and summer camp facilities. Wilfred Doody, chairman of the scrap drive, said trucks will tour the city all day, but that any scrap not picked up can be donated by calilng 3-4642 or 3-3788. Area People Place Dogs in Roseburg Show, Other Events Several local dog enthusiasts attended the first annual all breed dog show and obedience trials of the Umpqua Kennel club at the Douglas county fair grounds in Roseburg recently. Southern Oregon Kennel club members who attended were Mrs. Nancy Siler, Eagle Point, whose Keeshond, Ajkeer Magic Star, was best of breed and 4th in the non-sporting group; Mrs. Frank Catalano, whose Weimar aner, Catalano's Burt, was best of breed; Mr. and Mrs. George Stacey, whose Collie, ' Merrie Oaks Knight of Folly, was re serve winner dog; and Mrs. Mar grett Jones, whose Fox Terrier, Lucky Rena Pandora, ' handled by her daughter, Donna Lee Clark, was second in the open bitch class. v Other local dogs in competi tion were Nel-Top's Scuttlebutt, a boxer, owned by Neil and Thel ma Thompson, Grants Pass; and Breatbrr's Yankee Doodle Dan dy, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Morris.. Medford. Obedience Trials . In obedience trials, a Labra dor retriever, Boar Ranch Sky Rocket, owned by R. W. Kirsher of Ashland, won first place in the utility dog comeptition, and placed second highest scoring dog in the trial. Vigil Lass O'Tingwall Valley, a Shetland sheepdog, owned. by Mrs. Margaret Jones of Med ford, won first place in the nov ice B class. Two Southern Oregon Junior members placed dogs in the nov ice A class.' Patricia Lowery's English cocker spaniel, Hill crest's Pepper, was second, and Edward Nienow's German shep herd, Gretchen v Klugehaus, was third. Miss Lowery also won the tro phy for the highest scoring hand ler in the trial under 18 years old. University Students Rescued From Island .Portland U.R) Three University of Oregon seniors Saturday were reluctant to talk about events leading up to their rescue Friday night on Lemon island in the Columbia river. Their weak cries ' for help were heard, at the Columbia River Yacht club and they were picked up shortly afterward by Herb Davis, caretaker of the club and by Deputy , Sheriff Herb Thomas. Apparently victims of a tra ditional "senior ride," the three had been snatched just before noon at Eugene, blindfolded and taken to the tiny island where they were left stranded in light clothing and with one blanket each. (Bill) Perl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank' Perl, 136 North Oakdale ave., arrived here recently after , completing two years' service in the Air Force, A first lieutenant, Perl was sta tioned at Brize-Norton Air Force base in England for 19 months in a Strategic Air Command unit. He was in charge of a pe troleum section. Perl, a gradu ate of Medford High school in 1949 and University of Oregon in 1953, will be associated with his father at Perl Funeral home.
