t Butte Falls Couple Honored on Golden Weddinq Anniversary ButtS Falls Many friends nd neighbors gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stowell, Butte Falls, on Febru ary l to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Both are natives of Jackson county. Mrs. Lee Sheppard and Mrs. Kizzie Edmondson, honored Mr. and Mrs. Stowell at a dinner in the Medford hotel dining room. Mrs. Stowell wore a pale blue suit, with black accessories and a gold colored orchid. The celebration at home came as a surprise to Mr. and Mrs. Stowell." Mrs. Floyd Mattern baked a four-tier wedding cake, elaborately decorated with yel low bells. Present were Mr. - and' Mrs. Floyd Mattern and daughter Beverly, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Dyer, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Rogers, Mr. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stowell, Butte Falls, were honored Feb ruary 1 at a party which observ ed their golden wedding anni versary. Both Mr. and Mrs. Sto well were born in Jackson coun ty, and they were married in the old Jacksonville courthouse ' by Judge George W. Dunn, who now lives in Ashland. Grand Chief Home After Lodge Tour '. Mrs. Harry Bryant, grand chief of Pythian Sisters for Ore gon, returned home yesterday after visiting lodges in McMinn ville, Salem, Albany, Aurora and Grants Pass. ' Mrs. Bryant was accompanied north by her husband's moth er, Mrs. Minnie Bryant, who at tended a meeting of the execu tive board of Oregon Women's' Christian Temperance union, held at the Campbell court. The latter returned home Wednes day. ' - ' ''- ' " Ladies' Club to Hold Meeting in Sams Valley Sams Valley " Sams Valley Ladies club will meet February 16th 'at the home of Mrs. Elwood Abbott with Mrs. Ralph Koger as co-hostess. The business meet ing will be followed by a Valen tine exchange. ' Mrs. F. E. Wallace is in charge of entertainment. The Pennsylvania turnpike links Philadelphia and the Ohio border, a distance of about 327 miles, and was built at a cost of about $211 millioi. and Mrs. Keith Scott, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Sheppard, Mr. and Mrs. Polk Smith, Mrs. Kizzie Edmondson, Viola Holm and Jerry Price. The Stowells were -married February 1, 1906, in the old Jacksonville courthouse, which now houses the Jacksonville museum, by Judge George W. Dunn. Judge Dunn, who later became a state senator, now resides in Ashland. Their children are Arthur Stowell, Concord, Calif.; Mrs. Evelyn Kelly, Eagle Point; Mrs. Myrtle Williams, Grants Pass; Tom Stowell, Grants Pass and Mrs.- June Smith, Fort Clayton, Panama. Mr. and Mrs. Stowell have lived in Butte Falls for 20 years. Mrs. Stowell was born in Apple gate, and Mr. Stowell was'born near the present site of Dodge bridge. A family reunion is scheduled to be held in June. Prayer Day Set Friday In 1887 Presbyterian women in the United States organized the first Day of Prayer; and from this early, and small be ginning has grown a world-wide movement which today includes church women iri 134 foreign countries and 20,000 commun ities in the United States. On February 17, the first Fri day in Lent, a chain of prayer will begin in the Fiji islands and the Tonga region, just west of the national date line, and as day breaks over towns and communities to the west groups of Christian women will gather in groups everywhere to pray. This year the Medford group representing church women from all over the valley will meet at 1 p.m., in the Church of the Nazarene, 520 North Holly street, for a special service. - Mrs. J. Claude Sparks is pres ident of the local group . and has been an active leader since this group was organized 17 years ago. The theme this year is "One Flock, One Shepherd," John 10:16. The service this year has been prepared by workers in the Cook training school for Indian Christian- leaders in Phoenix, Ariz., a school which receives a part of the' World Day of Prayer offering each year. DAV Juniors Juniors Meet ' The junior group of Disabled American Veterans' auxiliary met recently at the home of Mrs: Harvey Cassman, Central Point. The older members made favors to be used at the February birth day party at Camp White. Mrs. George Simmons helped the younger members make valen tines.1 ' ':: After the business - meeting, refreshments were served by Sharon and Cynthia Simmons, assisted by Judy Guss and Donna Thompson. Open House Honors Jolliffes About 75 persons called on Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Jolliffe during an observance . of their 30th wedding anniversary Feb ruary 4. The couple's son and daughter-in-law, Mr. .and Mrs. J. K. Jolliffe, entertained at their home at 2895 Orchard Home drive. During the open house the honored couple renewed their marriage vows with another son, Elder Lynn Jolliffe of Yak ima,' Wash., officiating In addition to Elder Jolliffe's family, others from out of town were the couple's sons, Donald Jolliffe, Ft. Bidwell, Calif., and Dale Jolliffe, Bremerton, Wash., with their families. For her wedding anniversary Mrs. Jolliffe wore a blue grey dress and her corsage was a golden throated orchid. Daffo dils and golden candles decorat ed the home and a wedding cake decorated with golden roses was served for refreshments. Mrs. Dale Jolliffe took charge of the guest book and assisting Mrs. J. K. Jolliffe, were Mrs. Lynn Jolliffe and Mrs. Donald Jolliffe. Clyde Jolliffe and Miss' Ruth Mansfield were married Feb ruary 4, 1906, at Wauneta, Kan., and Mr. Jolliffe was a govern ment employee until they mov ed in 1912 to Oregon. They came from Portland to Josephine county in 1918 and have lived mainly in southern Oregon since -then. The Jolliffes were married in Kansas, and moved to Oregon in 1912. Central Point Parent-Teacher Group Celebrates Founders' Day; Band Plays .. Central Point The silver tea given by Central Point Parent Teacher association February 7, with special emphasis on Found er's day for the organization, was well attended and interest ing. , The group was led in prayer by the Rev. Don Whitney, and musical entertainment was furn ished by the Junior High Pep band, which played three num bers. Ethel Barnes, musician. Mrs. Carl Fichtner was pre sented with her past : regent's jewel and purple tassel and oth er gifts. The retiring rajah, Hugh Welch of Grants Pass, received his past regent's jewel arid purple tassel. A white fez with purple tassel was also pre sented to Mr. Welch from the grand temple. Mrs. Harry. He also stated .that 835 students, .or 87 per cent of the enrollment, received the tuberculin tests in January. Mrs. Stanley Parrish, pro gram chairman, acted as nar rator and presented a sketch of local parent-teacher history and the highlights taken from the minutes of the past year. Rogue River Clubs, Announce Dinner Saturday Night Rogue River The annual Washington birthday turkey din ner sponsored by Women's as sociation and Mariners' club of Hope Presbyterian church, Rogue River, will be held, this year ' Saturday, February 18. Proceeds will go toward a build ing fund for a new church in Rogue River. The event will be held in Fellowship hall of the church, with serving to begin at 5 p.m. The dinner is a tradition not only "of the vicinity but through out southern Oregon. Nominal charges will be made, with special prices for children. Children under ' three "years of age will be served without charge. The Women's association will meet Thursday, February 16 at 7:45 p.m., at the church to make final arrangements'.
