Local and , U. of O. Pledge Gene E. Les ter, Medford, was pledged re cently by Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at the University of Oregon. Medical Society The regular monthly meeting of the Jackson County Medical society will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8, in the Medford hotel. Guest speaker at the dinner meeting will be Howard Corbett,- Klam ath Falls. ' Weed Control Robert L. Kagy and M.- R. HubbeU, both of Medford, attended a three-day "agricultural chemical applica tors short course . at Oregon State college beginning Feb. 1. The course dealt with both aer ial and ground application meth ods of insect and weed control. Initialed to Honorary Don Robinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Robinson, 29 Ross court, was recently initiated to Phi Eta Sigma, men's scholastic honorary at the University of Oregon. Robinson, a freshman - journalism major, graduated , from the Medford Senior High school in 1955. Health Program Dr. Loren Messenger, psychologist at Southern Oregon college, will discuss, "Adolescents in the Home," on radio station KYJC Monday at 2 p.m. The program Is the third in a series, "Study Group of the Air," prepared by Jackson County Health associa tion. The sale 'will , feature men's suits, coats and work clothing. . Youth Released A 15-year-old Copper youth was released to his parents yesterday following his arrest by city police for shoplifting. The boy allegedly took a. pen from Quality market and some shot from the Siskiyou hardware, both on West Main st. - Television Broadcast The American Legion's fifth annual nationwide telecast "Back to God" will be carried on KBES TV at 2:30 p.m. today. National Commander J. Addington Wag ner and National Chaplain Jo seph MacCarroll will appear on the program, along with repre sentatives of the clergy. - Arrested David Carl Braun, 42, Queen Anne ave., was arrest ed by Medford police Friday night on a charge of driving while under the influence of in toxicating beverage ' after the pickup he was operating struck a -parked convertible owned by James B. Keeble, South Stage rd., Medford police reported. Braun was released on $100 bail. Leaders Meeting A meeting of the Jackson County 4-H Lead ers association will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Bigham hall at the county fairgrounds. Car Taken Theft of a Chev rolet coupe from the Courtesy Chevrolet used car lot, East Ninth st. and South Central ave., was reported today to Med ford police' by The Dalles of ficers who found the car aband oned on . a The Dalles street. Courtesy officials said they had not realized the car was missing. It was taken between 4 p.m. Wednesday and 8 p.m. Thurs day, they said. Youth Jailed Ronald W. Richey 18, route 2, Central Point, was sentenced to 90 days in the county jail Saturday in district court on a charge of petty larceny involving the theft of gas from a truck at Midway auction yards, Four Corners. He also received five days jail sen tences each for two charges of driving while operator's license was suspended. A 15-year-old Central Point boy with Richey was remanded to juvenile au thorities. I Auto Accidents Two auto accidents in Medford Saturday resulted in no injuries. At noon, cars driven by Carl William Luther,, route 1, box 643, Eagle Point, and Fred George Keier leber, 2610 Tennesse dr., col lided on Court st. north of Mc Andrews rd. At 12:45 p.m.,. cars driven by John Howard Jones, route 1, box 478, Central Point, and William Allen Kennedy, Burbank, Calif., collided at the intersection of Manzanita and court sts. . Perkins Back Medford Po lice Sgt. Lyle Perkins has re turned from Madison, ' Wis., where he took into custody Mr. and Mrs. Frank Rasmussen on charges of parole and probation violations. He was accompanied on the . trip by Mrs. Perkins. Rasmussen was extradited to Portland for alleged violation of probation from the state peniten tiary and Mrs. Rasmussen was returned to Jackson county for probation violation. Both were jailed earlier on check charges. Obituaries MR. AND MRS. FRANK DENHAM JR. A double funeral service for James Denham Jr. and his wife, Bessie Denham, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, jn the Litwiller Mountain View chapel in Ashland. Burial will follow in the Mountain View cemetery. Both died Wednesday in what authorities described as a mur der and suicide. Mr. Denham was born at Tal ent on April 23, 1911, and lived in southern Oregon al? his life. He was a resident of Medford for 20 years. fie served in the Pacific theater of operations during World War II, and after the war became the owner of the Rogue Distributing comp any. He is survived by a brother, Lloyd Turner, Oakland, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Mattie Driskell, Salem; two aunts, Mrs. Anna Robison and Mrs. Alice Turner, both Ashland, and three neph ews. Mrs. Denham was' born Nov. 7, 1909, at Manito, Okla. . Her survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Conner, Tal ent; two brothers, George and Ralph Conner, also Talent; and two sisters, Mrs. Verlee How ard, Dayton, Ore., and Mrs. June Brown, Spokane, Wash. Both were graduates of Talent High school. They were mar ried June 26, 1934. GEORGE J. FLOYD The body of George J. Floyd has been taken to. Richmond, Calif., for services and burial there Monday. Perl Funeral home had charge of local ar rangements. . Mr. Floyd was born in San Francisco, Calif., July 15, 1878, and for many years was employ ed by the Santa Fe railroad. He had visited his son, Earl Floyd, Phoenix, for the past three months. Besides his son he is survived by three grandchildren and a brother, William Floyd, Palo Alto, Calif. Boy Killed In Fist Fight Over Girl Kannapolis, N.C. (U.R) A 15-year-old boy was killed in a fist fight over a schoolgirl with "eyes as soft as the sunset on the desert" and his 16-year-old rival was. jailed Saturday on manslaughter . charges, . police reported., Officers said Wayne Simmons never regained consciousness af ter being knocked down by Den nis Joines Friday evening in a fight over the girl, whose name was not disclosed. The Kidsons and their three daughters, Donna, Debbie and Judy, have purchased a home near Phoenix from the Herbert H. Waltermires, and plan to move about Feb. 14. Driver Fined A 16-year-old Medford youth was fined $25 and received a six-month sus-' pension of his operator's license in police court this week on a charge of failure to leave in formation at the scene of an ac cident. Carpenters, Joiners Aid Flood Relief San Francisco (U.R) The United Brotherhood of Carpen ters and Joiners have given $50, 000 to the American Red. Cross to aid relief flood work in the west. The union presented the check Friday to John C. Wilson, Red Cross vice-president for op erations. The union made a simi lar donation last September for relief' work in the northeastern floods. Gets Sentence For Hunting Out Of Season Marshalltown, Iowa U.R) Police laboratory tests proved that Louis Richardson was tell ing the truth when he testified in an assault case that blood on his clothing came from a pheas ant he had shot. Richardson then was sentenc ed to 30 days for shooting a pheasant out of season. ; Embarrassed Policeman Reports Theft Of Car Gaffney, S.C. (U.R) An em barrassed police officer report ed the theft of his automobile.
