Lui Chavez, an Army sergeant,
who has served in Germany vis
ited relatives here during the
holidays, and left last week for
Ft. Riley, Kan. He was on 30
day leave, and was accompanied
by his wife, Ruth, and their
daughters, Stella, 2Vz, and Beat
rice, IVz. They visited Chavez'
father, Angel Chavez, 2 East
Clark st., and his brothers and
sisters who live here and others
who came to Medford from Con
cord, Calif. They are Miss An
drea Chavez, Mrs. John Pome
roy, Mrs. Richard Herndon and
Henry Chavez, all Medford; and
Mrs. Norman Gauviea, and An
gel Chavez Jr., who came from
Concord. Also here from that

Arthur Eckerson, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Herman L. Eckerson,
42 South Groveland ave., has
enrolled in business administra
tion at Southern Oregon college
after receiving his discharge
from the Army. He arrived home
just before Christmas and was
overseas for 18 months. Ecker
son received basic training at
Ft. Ord, Calif., and before enter
ing the service had enrolled at
the University of Oregon. He is a
Medford Senior high school
graduate. He was in the Army
for two years.

poral, son of Walter M. Barker,

recently was graduated from the
Yukon command leadership
school at Ladd Air Force base,

tion in leadership of units, map
reading and other military sub-"
pects. He entered the Army in
1949 and has been stationed at
Camp Chaffee, Ark.

CLARA PIEPER .
Funeral services for Mrs. Clara
A. Pieper, who died Wednesday
at her home, 820 Bennett ave.,
will be held in Conger-Morris
chapter at 11 a.m. Saturday. The
Rev. J. Thomas Dixon of the
First Methodist church will of
ficiate. Committal will be pri
vate.
Pallbearers will include Ed
Neftman, Oscar Gage, Art
Jahnke, A. L. Schrack, Frank
Hoffman and Dorr Hoffman.
Mrs. Pieper was born Feb. 10,
1860, in Waumandee, Wis. Her
husband, William Martin Pieper,
died in 1927. She was a member
of the First Methodist church.
Survivors include two sons,
W. B. Pieper, Shell Lake, Wise,
and Melvin A. Pieper, Medford;
a daughter, Mrs. Clara Herring,
Medford; two sisters, Mrs. Her-
tha Yaeger, Gridley, Calif., and
Mrs. Olga Anderson, Morgan
Hill, Calif.; five grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Mrs. E. J. Neu
man, preceded her in death . in
1930 and a son, .John Pieper,
died in 1921.
