Farmers Noi To Be
Fooled, Nixon Says
Washington (U.R) Vice-
President Richard M. Nixon says
that "Farmers are not go
ing to be fooled" by former
President Truman's call for a re
turn to rigid 90 per cent of par
ity farm price supports.
In an unusual Sunday state
ment, Nixon said Mr. Truman
and others "following his line"
on farm policies "should start
thinking about the farmer first
and politics second.
Nixon blamed the farmer's
economic plight largely on Tru
man administration policies.
Mr. Truman said in St. Paul,
Minn., that "the mess in agricul
ture is clearly attributable to
the Eisenhower administration."
He added that the administra
tion "is out of sympathy with
the needs of agriculture" and
should return to a 90 per cent
of parity program.
Nixon said "Mr. Truman's
memory seems to be playing
tricks with him. What he appar
ently fails to realize is that he
in fact is criticizing his own . .
program which was in effect
during virtually the entire pe
riod when farm prices were go
ing down."

HOW IT WAS DONE An artist's diagram, drawn after the FBI announced it had
solved the six-year-old Brink's robbery in Boston, shows how the world's biggest cash
robbery was staged. The 11-man gang got away with $1,219,000. One member of the
gang, Joseph (Specs) O'Keefe, apparently seeking revenge, told a Suffolk County grand
jury all he knew about the roDbery.

Soil Bank Plan
Washington i(U.R) Democratic
Senator Allen J. Ellender of
Louisiana said today the admin
istration's proposed soil bank
program won't boost farm in
come this year.
Ellender said there's just one
way to get more money into the
hands of farmers in 1956 . . . to
raise their income by increasing
price supports.
The Louisiana senator is chair
man of the senate agriculture
committee, which today opened
a week-long, series of hearings
on a new farm bill.
Among the first witnesses to
day was to be Republican Sena
tor, Homer Capehart of Indianav
Capehart, in a statement pre
pared for the hearing, said farm
income must be raised to match
the general national prosperity.
And he urged the committee to
approve his bill setting up a
three-year surplus disposal pro
gram, a plan to give surplus
foods to needy people at home
and abroad. "
