There are some people who
cannot bear to have others the
center of attention while they
take a back seat.

or even with
just a group of
friends, he con
stantly inter

people at the church bazaar. He
at once corrected me and said
there were 153 people. I was
merely talking in general fig

Also, when I am telling a story
about something, he will inter
rupt me and add something I
had not put in. I realize that
I am not a very good story
teller but, at the same lime, it
embarrasses me to have my hus
band take over and finish what
I am saying for me. Why does
he do this and what can I do to

The king of
Aline Mosby - the boudoir is
a set decorator at MGM whose
speciality is fashioning beds for
movie sets. He has made beds
of roses, beds to dance on, beds
for beauties to sob on and lie
upon.
Recently he composed a high
point in his career: A record
number of five beds for Lana
Turner to slip into for "Diane."
Courtesan Portrayed
In the film, Lana plays a fam
ous courtesan of 16th Century
France. When she first arrives
at the palace, she sleeps in a j
narrow, simple bed. As she ac- j
quires a procession of royal .
lovers the beds are elaborate
four-poster, canopied affairs.
"A bed can be a very im
portant part of a plot," explain
ed Henry today as he held forth
on the subject in his bedless
office.
"In 'Young Bes' to show the
change in Jean Simmons' age
we started her in a narrow,
simple bed, suggesting a vir
ginal quality. As she matured
the beds widened."
Decorator Henry's bed-making
goes back to Joan Crawford's
"Sadie McKee" of the '30s. Her
bed was in that "cornball mod
ern stvle of that time."
In Henrys office hang photo
graphs of his other famous beds
the huge white ruffled or
gandy bed Jeannette MacDonald
slept on for "The Merry Widow"
. . . the pad-on-a-block bed for
Norma Shearer in "Romeo and
Juliet" . . . Greta Garbo's death
bed with its huge, ruffled square
pillow for "Camille."
The bed-maker's biggest head- i
ache: Keeping the stars cool in
bed.
"For many scenes they have
to get into bed, as Grace Kelly
did in "The Swan,'" he said
"Under those blankets and hot
lights, it's a tremendous heat
problem. We make the blankets
and comforters thin."
Henry's bed is simple and mod
ern. He never has insomnia.

thermore, by correcting you, he
sets himself up as an "authority"
on the subject you are talking
about and this inflates his ego.
As for making him stop in
terrupting you, my suggestion
would be to have a heart-to-heart
talk with him and tell
him how you feel about the
whole matter. Stress the fact
that it embarrasses you to have
him correct you in front of oth
ers and that it makes you feel
foolish to have him take over
and finish a story you have been
telling.
Then, when you are with peo
ple, you can save yourself a lot
of embarrassment if you watch
your husband from time to time
when you are talking to see if
he is getting ready to interrupt
you. If he looks as if he were,
forestall trouble by bringing
him into the conversation with
such statements as, "Do you re
member just how many people
were at the church bazaar?"
or "I want my husband to tell
you about the experiences we
had on our trip."

Services Looking For Airbase Site
Washington (U.R) Rep. Wal
ter Norblad (R-Ore.) said Sat
urday that both the Navy and
Air Force were cooperating in
the search for a joint site for
an airbase in Oregon.
Norblad said the Air Force
planned to abandon its base at
Portland International Airport
because of traffic congestion and
inadequate runways. The Navy's
plans to build a reserve base at
Hillsboro have encountered pub
lic opposition.
Col. H. H. Banks was sched
uled to open quarters in the
United States Customs House
in Portland Monday to start site
surveys in Northwest Oregon.
