(U.R) A -man in Augusta, Ga., is keeping up with the airborne-age with a "Fly-in" restaurant . . . which he claims is the nation's first. Instead of a "drive-in" for motorists, its' a "Fly-in" for pi lots. And instead of "car-hops" there are pretty "sky-hops." The modern glassed-in restau rant, owned by Grady Timmer man, is in one corner of Darliel Air Field here. When pilots of small planes taxi down the run way to the restaurant, an alert "sky-hop" with a smile comes out to get (the pilot's order. She iQ is a member of the "Royal Order o of Sky-Hops," distinguished by an insignia on her blouse stain less steel wings on crossed knives and forks. Idea out of Blue Where did the idea come from for a "Fly-in?" Right out of the blue, of course. . . In the form of ' a hungry pilot. During the con struction of Timmerman's res taurant, a pilot taxied his plane over and suggested that he serve chow to the fly boys who "are always in a hurry." Thus, Amer ica's first "Fly-in" became a reality. Pilots who use Daniel field for a rest stop can refuel themselves, as well as their planes. Around Hollywood UniteB; Nlc2-. Hollywood (U.R) Deborah Kerr, the one-time prim dra matic actress, is singing for the first time for a living dui she's one star who admits she has a part time "double" i in the., voice department. The redhead floored movie- Jk goers before Aline Mosby when she showed ap as a sexy "other woman" in "From Here To Eternity." Now she's joined Marlon Brando, Susan Hayward and other stars who've switched to singing. Deborah will surprise fans again as the singing school teacher 13 one of 1956 s biggest musicals, "The King And I." But the voice you'll hear do ing the Rogers And Hammer- stein songs won't be entirely her own. Split Songs. The low notes in most of the songs are Deborah's. The high notes, in the same tunes, were taken over by singer : Marni Nixon Hollywood's first case of 50-50 warbling. Usually when a voice is dubbed, as in "Carmen Jones," the behind-scenes sing er does all the work. "Before I started the picture I made a record for the studio and I tried to be objective about my voice," the actress explained as she crawled out of her hoop i skirts in her dressing room. "Some of the songs I could do, but some I couldn't because they had an operatic range. I wanted to do as much myself as I could. So the studio found a singer whose voice matches mine." The actress sings two songs entirely by herself "Whistle A Happy Tune" and "Shall I Tell You," The other four, including "Hello, Young Lovers", are part Deborah's voice and part Miss Nixon's on the sound track. "I took singing lessons for several weeks last year but I had to stop while I did another picture at Paramount," the act ress went on. "If I had had more time to prepare, I may, have been able to sing all the songs." Maybe Nightclubs Miss Kerr claims she was the first dramatic star to be signed for a singing role, as she -agreed to do the lavish musical two years ago. Her first reaction was, "Oh, Lord, I can't sing.'' "Before this I had sung only in the bath," she laughed, pro nouncing it "bawth." Deborah's voice has opened a new career for her. The Sands Hotel in Las Vegas offered her 5100,000 for a singing engage ment. And. her co-star, Yul Brynner, wants her to tour with him in "The King And I" in Europe after the film is re leased. "I may work up a nightclub act," she smiled. "I never say no to anything now. I spent so much of my life believing I was not capable of doing things. But you can do almost anything if you take it seriously. Next I want to do a western a real sagebrush girl." the airways saying "Stop at the Pilots' Refueling Station Timmerman's restaurant." Right now Timmerman isn't depending entirely on business from the sky. It's still a sideline. He has a thriving drive-in busi ness, and inside his modern styled eating place, he has 22 tables and a banquet room. Separated by Fence A fence with a gate separates the "Fly-in" from the "Drive-in." However, as the word spreads in flying circles, Timmerman hopes Daniel Airfield will become a stop for many private pilots. As they wait for a tank of gasoline, they can get a hamburger and French fries without, leaving the plane, adding valuable minutes to their flying time. Timmerman can always cap italize on the "Fly-in" feature of his eatery by saying "After eating Timmerman's steaks, cus tomers go away with their heads in the Clouds." But he hopes they come back to earth again for another stop at the "Fly-in." Lt. Gen. Wedemeyer Recovering From Surgery Great Lakes, 111. (U.R) Lt. Gen. Albert C.
