sending ms great siiurisiup
nie Banks into the outfield.
Right now he's only toying
with the idea of splitting up the
swift double - play combination
of Banks and second baseman
Gene Baker, which accounted
for 55 home runs and 169 runs
batted in last season. But he in
sists that it could happen.
Big Weakness
Hack, now spending much of
his time duck hunting in the rice
stubble fields of the Sacramento
valley, said it's only a "big
weakness" in the outfield that
even makes him say things like
that. He said Banks is' as close
to having his short patch job
tied down as is possible in ad
vance of spring training.
There will be 10 or 11 candi
dates for outfield jobs, Hack
said, including Frank Keller,
the first baseman purchased
from Brooklyn.
"We picked up Monte Irvin in
the draft and I hope Hank Sauer
can come back and help us."
Hack said. "Then there's Walt
Moryn who came in the trade
with Brooklyn. He swings the
bat good he may not hit for an
average but he has power ana
could be a help if he has a good
year."
