Sheard, who arrived in souther Oregon yes terday from the Portland SBA office. 0 Headquarters for the agency are to be set up at Grants Pass, with a representative to visit Shady Cove and Rogue River at a scheduled time. o 0 The SBA has authorized any bank in a disaster area to accept applications for disaster loans for homes and businesses. Banks may assist applicant in filling out application forms and fur nishing necessary credit infor mation, the report said, includ ing an estimate or appraisal of the loss suffered. Statements Furnished Financial and earnings state ments are to be furnished where available, otherwise income tax reports may be used, Sheard said, A credit report and recom mendations by the bank should accompany e a c n application, which will be sent to the nearest SBA office. Speed in handling applica tions will depend upon complete ness of data furnished, Sheard said. Loans are not made by SBA without reasonable assurance that it will be repaid, according to the report, and sustaining a loss through disaster does not in itself entitle a victim to a loan. Property Loss Any individual, partnership, corporation, church, charitable amount, no loan will be approv ed for an amount in excess of paid in monthly installments at three per cent interest. The borrower is expected to pledge such collateral as he has and is in position to furnish. Close coordination is main tained by SBA and Red Cross, according to Sheard, with his agency sometimes referring to Red Cross applicans whose loans SBA cannot approve and vice versa. In some instances Red Cross may approve a grant and SBA provide the necessary bal ance in a loan. institution, or non-profit organi zation is eligible provided a property loss was sustained in a disaster area as designated by SBA. Farmers and stockmen should apply to farmers home adminis tration, it was said. Purpose of disaster loans is to restore victims as nearly as pos sible to pre-disaster status, and does not necessarily mean re storation to the same location. Although there is no maximum actual loss sustained or neces sary to restore property to the former status, less any amount of insurance recovery. Inventory Losses Prior to filing, applicants should inventory losses and amount of insurance recovery. Loans are not approved where funds are available through oth er sources. Maximum maturity for a busi ness loan is 10 years and for a Veterans and widows and children of veterans who re ceive annual' income question naires from the veterans admin istration have been asked to contact Service Officer Charles Holbrook, in the Jackson county court house. The questionnaires are sent to those receiving disability or death pensions annually because the pensions are subject to an nual income legislation. They require data on the 1955 in come and the anticipated 195i income. Forms must be returned with in 30 days of receipt, Holbrook said, or pension payments will be stopped.
