song title "Deari." I never cared
much for either "Set Adeline"
or "Down by the Old Mill
Stream" as quartet numbers.
Both seemed to inspire quartets
to excessive and corny heights of

Heart Condition
At 41, E. R. Bradley, then a re
tail store salesman in Chicago,
was informed by his physician
that he had a serious heart condi
tion and would have to slow
down considerably if he wished
to live much longer. Bradley
switched from the retail store
field to thoroughbred racing and
operating gambling casinos. The
change does not appear as if it
would benefit a serious heart
condition. However, Col. E. R.
fEradley lived to be 87 years old
and left an estate of $7,000,000.
Incidentally those millions were
made after Bradley was 41 and
afflicted with the aforemen
tioned heart condition.

land Dance Hall on Broadway,
Manhattan, is inscribed the fol

Chicagoan says that not until

Irish descent.
Lipstick
If a young woman has a thick !

lightly applied it is a sign she
is in the mood for a little loving
and kissing. Or so says a New

Madrigal Singers
Participate In
Kiwanis Program
Medford senior high school
Madrigal Singers, under direc
tion of Allan Lehl, presented
three selections at the Medford
Kiwanis luncheon yesterday at
Rogue Valley Country club.
The group of 12 students sang
"Now the Holy Child Is Born,"
"Jesus, Jesus Rest Your Head"
and "Chestnuts Roasting on an
Open Fire."
Members of the club brought
toys or money for gifts for the
Christmas parties this week for
handicapped youngsters in the
Medford schools. The meeting
was closed with the singing of
Christmas . carols. Dr. Abner
Clark sang "Adeste Fidelis" in
Latin as -part of the concluding
portion of the program.-
Kiwanians conducted their an
nual party for the people at the
county farm home Tuesday eve
ning. Ten Kiwanians participat
ed. Two separate groups of high
school students gave a program
of Christmas carols and Abby
Green played numbers on an
electric organ provided by E. Ron
Rice of the Music Mart. Frank
Perl was Santa Claus for the 16th
time in 17 years.
Seventy-seven gifts were wrap
ped with favors ' and ' oranges.
Emerson Anderson was in charge
of the party. Paul Smith of the
Groceteria arran'ged for the gifts
with the cooperation of Bob
Agard of Newberry's, Jack Craw
ford of Western Thrift store,
Fred Robinson of Robinson
Brothers and Pacific Fruit and
Produce company. The fruit firm
donated two cases of oranges.
STRIKE DELAY ASKED
Washington (U.P.) The Na
tional Mediation Board has ask
ed the Airline Pilots Association
to postpone a strike against
Western Airlines pending me
diation efforts, a spokesman said
today. The pilots union has
scheduled a strike for 6 a.m.
Wednesday. The dispute is over
wage contract demands.
