oo o o O o G o FOUR MEDFOHD (OREGON) Eight Medford Schools Plan Annual Christmas Programs 'Silent Night, Holy Night" and many other Christmas tunes and carols will be heard echoing from music rooms in the eight Medford city schools this week. Each school this year has plan ned its own Christmas message for community parents and fr&nds. Tuesday evening, December 20, Hedrick Junior High school, Jefferson, Washington, and Jack son schools wHl all present pro grams. The grade school per formances are scheduled to Be gin at 7:30 p.m., the junior high at 8 p.m. At Hedrick school all i vocal and instrumental students will be featured.' The entire student body at Jefferson school q will dramatize four of the chil dren's favorite Christmas stories. They made their wedding trip to Grants Pass. Mr. and Mrs. Cooper enter tained Sunday afternoon, Decem ber 11 at dinner at their home honoigig the couple. Relatives of both attended including the bridegroom's parents and Mr. and Mrs. Travis. The newly wedded couple then left for Fortuna, Calif., where they will live and where the bridegroom is employed at the Fortuna Plywood company. The bride until her marriage was a freshman at. Washington's program, to be given by first, second and third grade pupils, will be given Tues day and Wednesday evenings in order to accommodate the large number of parents anticipated. Each evening a different group of children will perform. The Jackson school program, "What, No Santa Claus?" will be presented by children of the second and third grade, with special instrumental numbers by the band and orchestra. All students in the first four grades, plus the band and orches tra, will participate in the Lin coln Grade school program, scheduled for Wednesday, De cember 21 at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday evening McLough- lin Junior High school and the Roosevelt Annex will both pre sent programs which both start at 7:30- o'clock. The Annex per formance is to be given at the new Hedrick 'gymnasium and will feature all students enrolled in the fifth and sixth grades. The McLoughlin concert will feature the school's three vocal groups and orchestra. Medford Senior High school will present a concert Thursday, December 22, at 8 p.m. at the high school auditorium. The or chestra, boys' chorus, girls' chor us, a cappella choir, and madrigal singers are to be featured in a wide variety of favorite Christ mas selections. The public is cordially invited to attend any of these Christmas performances by students of the Medford city schools. No admis sion will be charged. - Lodge and Auxiliary Plan Christmas Party A Christmas party for mem bers of the Eagles lodge and auxiliary and their families will be held Tuesday, December 20 at 6:3C p.m., in the Eagles hall. A gift exchange and enter tainment are planned by FOE auxiliary members for Thurs day, December 22 at 8 p.m. Staff Party" A Christmas dinner party was held by members of the F. W. Woolworth company store staff Monday evening at Mary's casa. A gift exchange was conducted and 38 members attended. Carols were sung and members of the staff furnished entertain ment. A. B. They plan their wedding for next spring. . Reception Planned By Star Chapter Thursday Evening A reception honoring 1955 members of Reames chapter, Or der of Eastern Star, will be held during the meeting of the chap ter set for Thursday, December 22, at Medford Masonic hall. The event will also serve as a farewell td the 1955 officers. Members attending are asked to take a "white elephant" arti cle wrapped as a gift. Reames Social club will meet Wednesday, December 21, at the Masonic hall for a pay luncheon at 12 o'clock. An afternoon of cards will follow. Those having birthdays in Oc tober, November and December will be honored. Mrs. John Esp is chairman of the event. Sams Valley Club Announces Party Sams Valley Sams Valley Ladies club plan a Christmas meeting December 22 at 2 p.m., at the Botsford home. He discussed heart disease, point ing out that it is the number one cause of death and disabil ity in the nation. The speaker said the Ameri can Legion and auxiliary have spearheaded the Heart associa tion by contributing S50,000 be tween them. The Medford unit voted to sponsor "Heart Sun day" February 26, and Mrs. Earl Bigalow offered her services as chairman of this project. The hospital chairman, Mrs. Leo Williams, reported that 101, 000 crepe paper poppies have been made to date and that the men at Camp White would have the money derived from making these poppies to spend for Christ mas. Donations of cake mix brought to the meeting were to be sent to the Oregon State hospital at Salem, and canned foods were to be put in the Christmas bas kets sthat are delivered every year. Members also brought toys to be sent to the Roseburg child welfare center. The president, Mrs. Herb Gif- ford, announced that the "kick- off" dinner for the Rogue Valley Memorial hospital campaign workers would be January 4, with breakfasts to be served by auxiliary members the following three weeks. Mrs. Williams stated that trees at Camp White were to be deco rated December 17, 18 and 19, and that the wrapping project is slated for December 20 and 21. All volunteers possible were asked to help with these proj ects. . Mrs. Laura Bryant, Grants Pass, district 13 president, made her official visit and spoke. She was later presented with a gift from the members. Mrs. H. C. Goldsmith, child welfare chairman, reported that a tonsilectomy had been pro vided for one family and that several others had been aided with groceries, milk and cloth ing. Blankets and clothing have been donated to one family in the amount of $96. The hall was decorated in holiday greenery and refresh ments served by Mrs. Herb Crain, were in the holiday theme. Medford Groups Cooperate On Bible Display - In conjunction with the world wide Bible reading program of the American Bible society, the Medford Ministerial association and Medford Council of Church Women, the Medford Public li brary has currently on display a number of versions and trans lations of the Bible as well as a selection of books about the Bible. Bookmarks listing the sug gested readings for 1956 were furnished the library by James V. Claypool of the American Bible society. Mr. Claypool com ments in a letter accompanying the folders that these are not usually given away but that they were glad to furnish them to the Medford Public Library since it has such excellent facilities for distribution of them. Copies' of these bookmarks will also be available at branches of the Jackson County library just as soon as they can be de livered oh scheduled branch visits. Lieutenant Gray To Arrive Soon Lt. Robert A. Gray, now sta tioned at Laredo, Tex., with the Air Force, is expected to arrive the day before Christmas to be with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Gray, Cherry Lane. His leave will extend only through the holiday season when he will return to his base. He recently completed his first phase of training in the Air Force at Mission, Tex., and was trans ferred to Laredo for jet pilot training. Duplicate Bridge Club Announces Winners for Point Play Wednesday Medford Duplicate Bridge club winners for master point play, held December 13 at the Moose hall were announced last week. First place for north-south players was taken by Mrs. Frank Baker and George Rode, who scored 96V2, points. H. J. Boyd and B. L. Sander son received second place with 94 Vz points, and Mrs. Sanderson and Mrs. Dodph Phipps scored 92 for third place. The east-west winners were Miss Isobel Stuart and John Sol heim, first, 9712; Mrs. W. W. Ste venson and Roy Pruitt, second, 96V2; and William F. Kennedy and Al Gilhousen, third, 89. Mrs. Rode and Mrs. Yvonne Dalen were hostesses for the re freshment hour. Five Candidates Are Initiated by Rosebud Council Five candidates were initiated into the Pythian Sunshine Girls Talisman Rosebud council, at a meeting December 8. They are the Misses Irene Thomas, Irene Rogers, Janet Longdon, Patricia Peck and Donna Lee Lamp. A Christmas party was plan ned and will be held December 22 when a gift exchange also will be conducted. Mrs. Morley Lamp was given the degree of Honored Mother. The Rev. Raymond E. Balcomb read the double ring rites which, were attended by about 60 guests. The bride is a graduate of Cra ter high school and is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Lindvall, route 2, box 723, Central Point. The bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. James R. Lillie, 1174 Court street. The bride wore a dress of me dium blue with white net and daisy trim. She carried a Bible with a bouquet of white carna tions. Mr. Lindvall gave his daughter in marriage; Miss Arlene L. Lindvall, a sis ter of the bride, was the honor attendant. Her gown was of pink net trimmed with silver and she carried white and pink carna tions. , . ' Kenneth L. Gentry, Phoenix, was best man. Mrs. Archie Pierce furnished the wedding songs and Mrs. Verl Failing accompanied and played the organ music. The reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Sorority Chapter Announces Party Monday Evening Alpha Lambda chapter of Ep- silon Sigma Alpha sorority will hold the annual Christmas party Monday, December 19 at 6:30 p.m. It will be at the home of Mrs. Roy Howe, 119 North Keeneway drive, and members are to take gifts for their secret sisters. Mrs. Chester Peterson gave demonstration on gift wrapping and fancy ties when the group met last Monday. She had on display a number of packages wrapped in various styles and mentioned several economical wraps tliat make up attractive gift packages. Each member then learned to make a decora tive bow. Mrs. John Benson, a charter member, was a guest. It was announced that Mrs. William Raymond will assume the office of parliamentarian to fill the unexpired term of Miss Dolores Lee, who has moved to Sandy, Ore.
