Z7 o o Oo Pilots Bailing Out At Supersonic Speeds Subject To Keating' Wednesday. December 14. 1953 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE ELgVB Edwards AFB, Calif. OI.R) Tests with "humanlike" dum mies have shown that pilots bailing og of planes streaking t supersonic speeds are sub jected to dangerouly violent yawing motions. The test results were discov ered yesterday by two aircraft companies which have complet ed experiments at this desert flight test center to determine a pilot's ability to withstand the sudden shock of bailing out at speeds up to 750 miles per hour. , The tests showed a pilot per formed a series of violent rock ing motions rather than com plete tumbling revolutions after hitting the airstream following ejection.
