Kingsville, Tex. U.R) The
Kleberg county grand jury late
yesterday cleared Mrs. Violet
QCanales Worden on a charge of
murder inthe "Svengali" slay
ing of hero husband. The jury
reported there were "not suffic
ient facts to support a charge of
murder against anyone under
the laws of the state of Texas."
"I have been fairly dealt with
and vindicated," the wealthy
42year-old widow told news
men, o
Mrs. Worden admitted shoot
ing 45-year-old Don Worden of

ers she killed him only because
he tried to make her shoot her
O five-year-old daughter.
The shooting took place at a
lonely beach on windswept Pa
dre island. Mrs. Worden rolled
her husband's body into a shal
low grave which she said he had
made her dig.
The all-male grand jury heard

The proposed entry of a Med
ford team in the Northwest
Class B baseball league was dis
cussed at length at a Chamber
of Commerce forum luncheon at
the Jackson hotel yesterday.
E. B. DeVoe, Hale Greenman
and Harry Chipman explained
various phases of bringing a pro
fessional baseball team to Med
ford. Plans of financing the pro
posal, plans for renovation of
the Fairgrounds baseball park
and the value of such a team to
the community were brought out.
It was explained that financ
ing it being planned with a
partnership agreement, whereby
signers would agree" to under
write from one to 10 per cent
of any loss, or would share
equally in any profits, depend
ing on the percentage figures for
which the signer subscribed.
Plans to obtain considerable fin
ancing through, advance ticket
sales and program and fence ad
vertising also was explained.
Value To Community
Advertising value to the area
through signs on vehicles .carry
ing the Medford players up and
down the highways in Washing
ton, Oregon and eastern Idaho
was pointed out. It also was
mentioned that listing of Med
ford and the Northwest League
in sports pages across the na
tion, plus frequent articles per
taining to Medford in Sporting
News, a rational baseball pub
lication, would be of value to
the community.
Plans for renovating the base
ball park to include an addition
al grandstand and box seats, plus

outfield parking for approxim
ately 100 cars for an overall
seating capacity of 1500 for the
first season, and additional seat
ing to accomodate approximate
ly 2500 for the second season
of operation was explained.
Not Beyond Possibility
The forum was generall agreed
that lack of adequate park fa
cilities will greatly hamper a
Medford entry but the members
also were agreed that it was not
beyond possibility to improve
the present facilities to enable
Medford to enter the league in
1956.
Vic Milnes presided . at the
meeting and announced that next
Monday's forum would be a joint
meeting with the Chamber of
Commerce greeting committee,
at which time the topic for dis
cussion would be "What Would
Be Expected of Us as a Chamber
of Commerce."

United Operations
Resume at Portland
Portland (U.R) United
Airlines spokesmen said that all
schedules from Portland Inter
national airport should be nor
mal and all employees back at
work today. r
The statement came on the
heels of a hearing on United's
suit to enjoin unruly picketing
at the airport. Presiding Cir
cuit Judge James R. Bain con
tinued the hearing indefinitely
yesterday.
The judge said the hearing
seemed unnecessary in view of
reports that picketing by strik
ing flight engineers was peace
ful at present. But he added that
the hearing would be renewed
if law and order was not main
tained on the picket line.
The airline had alleged in a
suit filed last Saturday that au
tos of non-striking employees
had been damaged in flareups
and that pickets had prevented
tradesmen and passengers from
entering United property by use
of threats.
