o Extension Groups To Hold Meetings; PartPes Planned Two Extension units have announced meetings for t h i week. Medford unit will meet in the Community hall on Priddy st., Wednesday, December 14, at 10:30 a.m. The project, "Main Dish Meals," will be given. Each member is to take an exchange gift and table service for themselves and their guests. Euncheon will be served for a small charge, and child care is provided. The monthly meeting of Oak Grove unit will be held Tues day, December 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the home of Mrs. Lyle B. Thurman, 3379 Jacksonville highway. Mrs. Hen ry Zacharisen will serve as as sistant hostess. The project, "Main Dish lieals" will be given by Mrs. Ross Goodroad and Mrs. D. C. Hendrix, and the food prepared will be incorporated into the luncheon. pThe annaul Christmas party follow and each member is to take a gift of 50 cents value or something homemade. Each member is also to take suggestions for the program planning question box, and also sny small toy for the child care box. Mothers desiring care for their children should contact Mrs. S. B. Sandberg, 3-5617, by noon, Monday. Chapter to Hold Christmas Party Plans for a Christmas party to be hld December 20 were1 made by members of Beta Upsi lon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority when they met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Jack Can non, 403 Laurel street. Mrs. M. N. Hogan has been named sponsor for the new chap ter and the director is Mrs. Scott Davis. A cultural program was pre sented by Mrs. Cannon. Her top ic for the evening was"Introduc- tions and Invitations." Correct forms of introducing persons and the uses of formal and informal invitations were explained. The Christmas party will be held at the home of Mrs. Hogan, Siskiyou court. Mrs. Walter Smith and Mrs. John Selby di rected the entertainment and social committees. After the meeting an auction was held with food and articles contributed "by members being sold. The proceeds will be used for a Christmas basket for a needy family. iteiresnments were served by the hostess with Mrs. R. L. Palmer assisting. The group met at The Dardenelle dining inn at Gold Hill for pinner and a pro grafi was held following the dinner, also at the inn. Twenty wo persons attended. Householders Given Rules For Fire-Safe Christmas Boston U.R) For a fire-safe Christmas, says the National Fire Protection association, you should observe these rules: THE TREE Select a tree that hasn't dried out from long storage. Stand it in -water or snow outdoors until you're ready lo use it indoors. Bring the tree indoors just before Christmas and take it out as soon afterward as possible (Dec. 26 is recommended). Place the tree trunk in water and keep level of water high the entire time the tree is indoors. Check the water levl daily for ab sorption and evaporation. - LIGHTING Don't use candles on the tree or nearby where there is any chance for an open flame to contact the tree. Use only electric lighting sets that bear the UL (Underwriters' Laboratories) label. , Check lighting sets each year before using for frayed wires, loose conections and broken sockets. Be sure the fuse on the electrical circuit you use is not over 15 amperes. Don't plug too many cords into one outlet. Make certain that all tree lighting is turned off before retiring or leaving the house. DECORATIONS AND WRAPPINGS Don't let Christmas wrappings accumulate in the home. Use non-combustible material to decorate the home wherever possible. When you must use combustible materials, be sure they are "flame-proofed." Santa Claus whiskers have caused Christmas tragedies; be sure they're "flame-proofed," too. GIFTS Don't buy pyroxylin plastic dolls, toys or non-flameproofed cowboy suits, etc. Toys operated by alcohol, kerosene or gasoline are especially dangerous. Look for the Underwriters' Laboratories label when buying electrical toys. This means they have been tested for fire and shock hazards and may be considered safe if properly handled. Don't set up electric trains or spirit-fueled toys under a Christ mas tree. The two Far Eastern touches are part of the Delman resort and spring shoe collection pre viewed here this week. "Bud dha" heels are tiers of wood that diminish in size from top to bot tom. The event was held during the evening in the recep tion rooms of the church. Among the many guests who attended were the bride's moth er, Mrs. Burns; her grandmoth er, Mrs. Zela Elmore, and a sis ter, Mrs. Herb Stickney. Miss Burns is bride-elect of Leland Stickney, son of Mrs. Victor Van de Weghe of Hilt, Calif.
