o O SIX M5DF0RD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Installation, Reception For New Pastor Announced An installation service and reception for the Rev. Richard M. Jones, new pastor of the Eastwood Baptist church, North Keene Way drive at Ridgeway dr., is to be held Sunday, Dec. 11, at 3:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and to meet Mr. and Mrs'. Jones and their daughter, Cheryl. TKtf Rev. Mr. Jones and family arrived in Medford three weeks ago from Sumner, Wash., where he was stor of the First Bap tist church. Mr. Jones is a grad uate of Linfield college, Mc Minnville, Ore., and Berkeley Baptist Divinity school, Berke ley, Calif. Leaders Many local and out-of-town ministers and church leaders will participate in the program. Among them will be, Dean Anderson, moderator of the East wood church; Mrs. E;Lhel Korn stad, organist for the First Naza rene church; the Rev. Conrad Rhoads, pastor of the First Bap tist church in Riddle; the Rev. Thomas McCamant, pastor of the First Congregational church, and president of the Medford Minis terial association; Mrs. Albert Gandt, Talent, soloist; the Rev. LeRoy Fraser, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Grants Pass; Dr Elmer Adams, executive secre tary of the Oregon Baptist Con vention. Miss Sara Louise Walker, gen eral missionary for the Oregon Baptist convention, who helped start the church; Lem Phillips, Roseburg, representing the Rogue River association of American Baptist churches; Mrs. S. D. Earhart, president of the Rogue River association women; and Dr. Raymond S. Balcomb, pastor of the First Methodist church, Medford. Plans'Made 0 The planning for the program and the reception is being done by several committees. Mrs. Ear hart is chairman of the program committee with Mr. and Mrs. John Johnson, ()Irs. Dodson, Earhart, Anderson and Jungen, members of her committee. Mrs! The Eastwood Baptist church is an American Baptist church, and was organized three years ago. The church building was built ifiout two years ago. Pastor lo Continue Christmas Sermons "The Everlasting Father," is the third subject in a series of Christmas sermons to be present ed Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. liQ,Iedford's First Church of the Nazarene, Holly and First sts., by the Rev. R. W. Hum, pastor, in a current series from the Prophecy Isaiah 9:6-7. Mr. Hurn will present the meanig in the names that the prohet gave to the Christ Child. .Two more sermons remain in the series to be concluded Sun day(yvening, Dec. 18. During the morning worship, Mr. Hurn will speak on the sub ject, "The Old Book for Modern Needs," and will attempt to an swer questions asked in regard to the Bible. At 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the pas tor will speak to the Junior high school fellowship on the robject, "You and Your Church." During the Sunday school hour a similar Odiscussion group will meet in the pastor's study for adults who are interested in church mem bership. UBS Observance, Dedication Rites Slated at Phoenix Phoenix Phoenix Presbyte riian church will observe Uni versal Bible Sunday on Dec. 11. The minister's sermon topic will be, "The Bible Spffaks to You." Attendance at the morning service is growing rapidly, and interest in the chch work is increasing, it isreported. Another featupe of the serving will be dedication of a new or gan. The new organ replaces one in use in the church since the building was erected, and which was given the -church, by one Of the Ashland congregations. ' Officers and teachers of the Sunday school met recently and planned the annual Christmas program for Sunday, Dec. 18. Each department of the school will take part. JONES New Pasios Men's Corporate Worship Slated At St. Mark's , Services at St. Mark's Episco pal church at 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., will stress corporate worship for men and boys of the church. All men of the parish are invited to attend either of the services and participate in a diocesan wide corporate gift to the Yery Rev. Dean Carman, recently elected coadjutor bishop of Ore gon. The 11 a.m. service will be conducted by the young people. Greg Milnes will lead the wor ship; Dan Kellington and Jim Boyd will read the scripture lessons, and Leon McDougall will speak on the theme, "What it means to me to be acolyte." In the course of the service the following boys, Mike Gif- ford, Fred Lorish, Bob tRix, Bruce Kellington, Bill McNeel, Booth Deakins and Robert Walk er, will be admitted to the Sen ior Acolyte guild, by the Rev. George Bolster, rector. They will be presented by Mrs. J. A. Mc Dougall, acolyte mother to the group. The Young People's fellow ship will present the film, "Mar tin Luther" at 8 p.m. in the church. All interested persons are invited. Refreshments will be served in the Parish house following the showing of the film. Friends Pastor To Begin Series Beginning a series of Advent messages, Pastor Clynton Cris man will speak on the subject, "The Word Was Made Flesh," at 11 a.m., at the Friends church Sunday. Universal Bible Sunday will be recognized in sermon and song, and those who attend are requested to take their Bibles with them. Deane Roberts will sing. Nurs ery and junior church will be conducted for children. At 6:30 p.m., the three Chris tian Endeavor societies will have pre-Christmas lessons. Praise and worship service will be held at 7:30 p.m. when the pastor will speak. A trumpet-trombone duet will be given by Jack and Jim Hamilton. "Quaker Hour" is broadcast over KMED at 9:30 p.m. Inspection Of Roads In County Commences Members of the county court and County Engineer Paul Rynn ing, started an inspection tour of county roads today. Results pf the three-day ap praisal of road conditions, to day, Monday and Tuesday, will be used in outlining a county road improvement and construc tion program for next year. Rynning, County Commission ers L. B. Morthland and Chester Wendt, and County Judge Rod ney Keating, will cover roads in almost all parts of the county, Rynning said. County road crews this week finished rocking nine miles of the Dead Indian rd. from the summit cattle guard to Dead wood and from Hoopers' ranch to Icehouse canyon. The hour-long pro gram has become an annual event to music lovers through out the valley. Sunday school departments are cooperating in a more simple program this year inasmuch as Christmas falls on Sunday. The school departments will meet at 10 a.m. with a combined pro gram and worship service to get under way at 10:30 a.m. A Christmas message will be given by the pastor, Rev. Raymond W. Hurn. The radio of the church will present Christmas music, Dec. 18, and December the 25, when the weekly broadcast, "The Gospel Hour," may be heard over radio station KMED, at 9 a.m. The Church of Nezarene in Med ford is-in the 12th year of broad casting the "Gospel Hour." Kirkland West, pastor of the First Presbyterian church has been invited to be the speak er for Oregon council of Pres byterian men, at a two-day con ference this weekend at Menu cha near Portland. Fred Gatter, Southwest Ore gon Presbytery representative; Sam Harbison, president of the local chapter; Winston Carl, Lawrence Cla,rk, and John Graff also will attend. The Rev. John O. Reynolds, assistant pastor, will speak at both morning services Sunday, on the topic, "The Bible - Book of Destiny." Music will include anthems by the Westminster and Chancel choirs and a number by the Triple trio, "There Were Shep herds" by Vincent. At the evening service, Mr. Reynolds will speak on, "A Mis sionary Strategy for Today." High School Westminster fellow ship will have a panel discussion, led by Miss Nancy McKeown, Dr. Otto Emig, Dr. John Branden burg and Dr. Roland Mayer. . Fireside will be at the church. Freshman fellowship members will have their meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Brill, 75 Lozier lane, at 7 p.m. Meeting, Dinner Set At Brethren Church A' potluck dinner will be serv ed Sunday at noon in the Church of the Brethren dining room and will precede a quarterly council meeting of the church to be con ducted at 2 p.m. Ray Pence mod erator, will be in charge of the meeting. Th pageant, under the direction of Mrs. Herbert Sampert, has par ticipants drawn from every department of the church schol.' The Children's choir, under t the direction of Mrs. Dorothy Sloniger, will provide musical narration. The event is for the entire family, church officials emphasize. "The Life Worth Living," will be the sermon topic of Dr. Ray mond E. Balcomb at the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services. The Youth choir, under the direction of Mrs. George Sloniger will sing at 9:30 a.m. and the Chancel choir, under the direction of Mrs. C. R. Adamson will sing at 11 a.m. Mrs. Howard Bush will be soloist. Miss Sue Donna Doolen and Mrs. Richard Schuchard are the organists. ' ' ' New members will be received into the church at the second service and will be honored at a Series on Carols To Be Continued The sermon at the Congregational-church Sunday will be the second in the series based on Christmas carols. The one to be discussed is "O Little Town of Bethlehem." Musical numbers will be given by a mixed trio and by the choir. The Every - Member canvass which was conducted last Sun day resulted within $800 of the goal of $6,673 which was sought from pledges. Many also made "participation pledges" indicat ing departments of church acti vity in which they will take part. Additional pledges oQ both kinds may be brought to the church next Sunday,. The amount sought from pledges this year is more than double the budget of last year, indicating the expansion in the church's program and the mcreasmg responsibility assumed by the local congregation, the Rev.
