fire control technician third class
aboard the Navy destroyer USS
Wiltsie, which is completing a
six-month tour of the Far East.

declared disaster areas by the
Small Business Administration
as a result of damages caused by
the recent freeze. Sen. Warren
G. Magnuson (D-Wash.) said to
day. The agency has funds avail
able for low-interest loans in
disaster areas.
Former Dalles Official
Held for Embezzlement
The Dalles (U.R) A former
The Dalles city clerk-treasurer
was arraigned in Wasco County
Circuit Court yesterday on a
charge of converting $2,678 to
private use.'
The arraignment of A. C. Grin
die, 39, followed indictment by
a grand jury after a day and
a half of deliberations. The
money was missing from the
city's general fund.

Funeral serices for Gertrude
May Larkin Clarke of Gold Hill,
who died Sunday, 'were held in
Conger-Morris chapel at 1:30
p.m. today. The Rev. J. Thomas
Dixon of the First Methodist
church officiated. Committal
was in Siskiyou Memorial park.
Mrs. Clarke was Born March
28 1879 in Plattsburg N.Y. On
Oct. 12, 1907, at Kane, Pa., she
was married to John R. Clarke
who survives.
Also surviving is a brother,
W. H. Larkin, Tampa, Fla.

Funeral services for George
W. Newberry, 70, of 334 North
Holly st., who died Monday,
will be held in Conger-Morris
chapel at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Father Robert Tomisser of the
Sacred Heart Catholic church
will officiate. Committal will be
in Memory Gardens Memorial
park.
Honorary pallbearers will in

urged restoration of the GI bill
of rights and said America was
in danger of discarding the ba
sic principle of "equality of sac
rifice." Neuberger told students at an
Oregon State College meeting
that "at a time of unprecedented
corporation profits from the
manufacture of armaments, the
real benefits of the GI bill of
rights have been eliminated for
the soldiers who must use those
armaments."
Criminologist Called
In Burton Abbott Case
Oakland, Calif. (U.R) ! The
prosecution called a noted crim
inologist to the stand today in
an attempt to prove through sci
ence that Burton W. Abbott kid
naped and murdered Stephanie
Bryan.
The criminologist was Dr.
Paul L. Kirk of the University
of California, who has devoted
a quarter of a century to solving
crime with his microscope. He is
the 53rd and possibly . last
prosecution witness.
District Attorney J. Frank
Coakley said the prosecution
might rest immediately after
Kirk finishes testifying.

Doctor Arrested ,
With Two-Children
Yuma, Ariz. (U.R) Dr. Frank
Sainburg was arrested yester
day in a Yuma hotel with his
four-year-old son and the four-year-old
step-daughter he alleg
edly threatened to kill, police
disclosed today.
Sainburg, a Big Spring, Tex.,
surgeon who disappeared with
the two children from his home
last Friday, was arrested in a
Yuma hotel where he was reg
istered under the name of Jack
Carpenter.
The children, Philip Sainburg
II, his son by a previous mar
riage, and Mary Jean Nance,
the daughter of his present wife,
were unharmed.

Residents here yesterday voted
unanimously in favor of a $60,
000 bond issue to finance con
struction of a sewage system
that would solve the commun
ity's long-standing stream pol
lution problems.
The Oregon Legislature laQ
session appropriated $60,000 to
buy the bonds in case they can
not be bought on the open mar
ket. Government Camp, whose
cluster of business buildings is
the hub of the Mount Hood rec
reation area, has an assessed
valuation of only $101,680.
