Contest to Close;
List Activities
A Sunday school contest be
tween the Medford Assembly of
God Sunday school and the Sun
day schools of the Roseburg and
SDrinefield. Ore.. Assemblies
will be concluded next Sunday.
A "Win-the-Contest" rally will
be conducted at the opening
period. Recognition will be
given to the person vho has
made the most contacts in No
vember, and for the one who
has taken the most visitors to
Sunday school.
At the morning worship serv
ice at 11 a.m. the' pastor, the
Rev. T. Wildon Colbaugh, will
creach. A children's church
will be conducted concurrently
with the adult worship service
Miss Feme Bush and Mrs. Leora
Nylander will direct.
At 6 p.m., an informal Bible
discussion will be conducted for
adults. Visitors are invited. Re-
ligous and spiritual questions
will be discussed informally. At
the same hour the Christ's am
bassadors, the youth of the
church, will hold a service un
der direction of the president.

high students are invited.
The evangelistic rally at 7:30
p.m., will be the climax to the
day's activities at the church
Mrs. Colbaugh will speak. A
report will be given of a state
wide Christ's ambassadors con
vention in .Portland held on
Thursday and Friday of this
week. Nearly 20 of the local
CA members were in attend
ance at the convention.

First Advent Sunday
Will Mark New Year
Within tha Lutheran church,
Nov. 27 becomes the first Sun
day in Advent this year and
marks the church's new year.
In connection with the worship
for the day, Zion Lutheran
church, corner of West Fourth
ti., and North Oakdale ave.,
will receive a group of adults
into the congregation and then
participate in the sacrament of
the altar.
Pastor G. H. Hillerman's ser
mon will be in the form of an
introduction to the Lord's sup
per. The title of the brief medi
tation will be, "When The King
Comes."

another column and tell such
mothers that they should think
of their children as well as of

when you say mothers should
think of their children as well
as of themselves. I should like
to add to your statement the
thought that, if mothers could
imagine themselves in the place
of their children and imagine
how they would feel if they were
the children, mothers wouldn't
do many of the things they do
Aside from the safety element
there is the loneliness and in
security a cnua experiences
when left alone in a house. Even
older children dread coming
home to an empty house. They
would rather be on the streets
than alone in a house.
For a young child, the situa
tion is far worse, especially if
he is locked in the house. Fur
thermore, because his ability to
understand is still limited, he
never knows, when the mother
leaves, when she will be back.
Wondering about when she
will return often sends a young
child into a state of panic.

Series of Sermons
The Rev. Raymond W. Hum,
pastor of the Medford Church
cf the Nazarene, announced this
week that a series of sermons
would begin Sunday night at the
time of the regular Sunday eve
ning service, 7:30 p.m., to deal
with the Prophet Isaiah's names
for Jesus.
From . the Scripture ' Isaiah
9:6-7, the Sunday night series
will explain the meaning in the
names, "Counselor," "The
Mighty God," "The Everlasting
Father," "The Prince of Peace.
The series will continue from
Nov. 27 through -Dec. 18.

Thanksgiving," when the Rev.

To Conclude Series
At the Congregational church
next Sunday the Rev. Thbmas
McCamant will conclude a series
of November sermons on the
Thanksgiving theme. The final
sermon will make the transition
to the Advent season. The topic

Rally To Be Held
For Valley Youth
A rally for Rogue valley
youth will be held at the Med
ford Assembly of God, 1108
West Main st., Monday, Nov.
28, at 7:30 p.m.
A feature of the evening's
program will be the "Quizz
time" which will be directed by
the Rev. Homer Thompson, of
Ashland. Teams from various
churches will participate in this
period. Honors will be given
the winning team.
Young people from each
church throughout the valley
will comprise the choir for the
evening's service. A variety of
music will be provided under
the direction of the Rev. Jessup,
of Gold Hill.
An award will be eiven the
church securing the most points
for participating in the rally.
The Rev. Harry Ayers, who
has just recently become the
pastor of the Grants Pass As
sembly of God, will be the in-
spirational speaker.
Junior high, senior hieh and
college students especially are
invited. The service is open to
the public and friends of all
ages may attend.'
Medford Pastor To
Speak in Portland
The Rev. Kenneth Korby,
pastor ' of St. Peters Lutheran
church, 1020 East Main st., will
leave for Portland this weekend
for Portland to begin a series ef
Evangelistic missions at Holy
Sacraments Lutheran church, on
Sunday evening, Nov. ,27.
He plans to return to Med
ford, Friday, December 2. His
family will accompany him.
The Rev. Prof. Paul Harms of
Concordia college, Portland,"
will preach at St. Peters Sunday
morning, and at Eagle Point in
the evening. Professor Harms
was formerly pastor at Grace
Lutheran church, Ashland.
Monday Meeting Set
For School Workers
A report of the progress of a
program of emphasis in the
church school will be the subject
of discussion Monday evening
at a meeting of teachers and
workers in the church school
of the Eastwood Baptist church.
The meeting is- to be held at
the John Yungen home, 515
South Riverside ave., at 7:30
p.m.
The program, called the "Year
of Baptist Achievement," is a
nationwide emphasis in all
American Baptist churches de
signed to strengthen the Sunday
church school.

New Pastor for Eastwood
Baptist Church
The Rev. and Mrs. Richard

way dr. They are from Sumner,
the First Baptist church.
The Rev. Mr. Jones holds a
bachelor of arts degree from Lin
field college at McMinnville, and
bachelor of divinity degree
from Berkeley Baptist Divinity
school at Berkeley, Calif. He
was graduated with honors from
both the schools.
He and Mrs. Jones majored in
music during their college years,
singing in choirs and quartets
and doing solo work.
They are living here at 417 J
st. Their daughter, Cheryl, is
two years old.
In Sumner, the pastor was
president of the Sumner Minis
terial association for one year
and was active in community
events. He also served as an
assistant pastor at Berkeley. He
originally came from Lisbon, i
N. D., and Mrs. Jones is from I
Portland.
Next Sunday, the Rev. Mr.
Jones will speak on the subject,
"Beneath the Crust," at the 11
a.m. service. His topic for the
7:30 p.m. service will be "Mo
ments to Remember."
