t FOURTEEN MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE Sunday, November 13. 1955 A Nichol's Worth of . . . Comment On This and That By HARMAN United Pr Washington U.Ri A man in Chicago has a new gimmick wherebv the small fry can learn table manners I f Li .1 Karman NichoU 2"Wy--fl and play a i u n e un a spoon at the same time. I wish in ventor James Greco well with Pat. No. 2.722,153. He call his brain child a "mechan i c a 1 eatingutensil." It will be produced in sets knife, fork, and spoon, or can be bought singly. On the handle of reach is a hollow tube, equipped with holes on top, which when blown, can make a noise like a tin whistle or a flute. Tunes like "Yankee Doodle," "The Old Gray Mare" or "Brahms' Lullaby" can be made to come out if one is bright enough to blow hard and old enough to finger correctly. Idea is that music can be made by mama or the kid himself and is' supposed to put junior in such a happy mood he will then turn the instrument around the other way and dig like crazy into his mush, grits, or applesauce. The Introduction Greco is a little boy in his in troduction to the description of his musical eating tools. He says he is aware of the fact that often exasperated mothers have a W. NICHOLS catur Wrir devil of a time getting Frankie or Patty to swallow their spin ach. Greco let it be known that he spent considerable time coming to the aid of all with his brand new invention. Inventin' Greco puts it like this in his prose filed with the Patent Office: The blowing of a tune into the tin-horn ends of the spoon, musical eating device will "provoke considerable amusement sufficient in many instances to distract the child so that he may go on eating his meal while somewhat simultane ously amusing himself with his noise-provoking spoon, fork or knife, as the case may be." Some Pranks He doesn't anticipate any trou ble with the high-chair set, but trouble may come from Mama if the younguns decide to play some pranks, along with some tunes. Say there is alphabetical soup on the tray at lunchtime one day. Junior gives with a little tune. Then he decides to use the spoon end to dip into the soup. Then, with his mouth full of letters from "A" to "J" he takes himself a deep breath and blows real hard. Not only does he clog up the musical end of his eating tool, but out comes part of the alpha bet and all of the soup on mo ther's clean dress. Have you thought of that, Mr. Greco. It could happen. . , ..... . . . ' i!A ' . - .... -. .. . ..' II Around Hollywood tited ALINE MOSBY Press Correspondent Hollywood (U.R) Cartoonist Al Capp is in town today on an enviable job: To eye bosomy beauties in his search for a Daisy Mae and a Wolf Girl for the stage and movie version of " 'Lil Abner.' " The creator of the famed comic strip Aline Mosby came here to work on the script with the producer-writer-director team. Nor- It VH Sherry Feng Trial Postponed One Day Portland (U.R) Sherry Fong's first degree murder trial has been delayed again but this time for only one day. Multnomah County Circuit Judge Alfred P. Dobson said the illness of a juror in a case pre ceding the murder trial would cause postponement until Tues day of the Fong case. Sherry and her husband, Wey Him Fong, were found guilty of slaying 16-year-old Diane Hank, but Judge Dobson overthrew the verdict and ordered another trial. Judge Dobson declared a mistrial in Mrs. Fong's second trial Nov. 1. Barbara is one of the first named who will com pete in the Miss America con test next year. is I m Daily's U-Drive Medford Airport man Panama and Melvin Frank. The stage version will splash on Broadway this spring. The movie version, in vistavision, color, fancy sound, etc., follows. Thus Capp, Panama and Frank soon must solve the question that's puzzled lovers of the "Fun nies" who'll portray the charac ters? Beauty versus Talent "The more beautiful Daisy Maes are out here. But she also has to be a terrific song and dance girl, and the talented ones are in New York." sighed Capp. 'Marilyn Monroe, Mitzy Gay nor, Kim Stanley and Judy Tyler already have been mentioned for the role. 'Lil Abner must be a "young Henry Fonda who can dance like Ray Bolger." As for the Wolf Girl: "why do you think we're writing the play? So we can audition wolf girls!" Capp may not have to look far. One sloe-eyed girl who used to model for the cartoon is a new Paramount star Carol Ohmart. Miss Ohmart Considered "She's pretty sedate out here, but muss up her hair and she's a great Wolf Girl," said the car toonist. Fifteen years ago a 'Lil Abner movie "that aspired to be a B' was made but Capp shuddered, "We're trying to buy up that lit tle horror." Ten years ago director John Logan wanted Capp to collabo rate on a musical. Milton Berle was signed as Marryin' Sam and Jose Ferrer as Available Jones. "But I didn't want to work. Logan got so mad he gave me up and made 'Mister Roberts' and 'South Pacific'," grinned Capp. "I'm more trustworthy now." 3 1 ' UL APPROVED Cjvalier tapered cone construc tion circulates Vj more heated oir up through heating element ihan any other radiant convec tor type heater on the market.
