jft ' 4 4" ' Misi Nancy Higinbotham Tell Engagement Of Young Couple In Central Point Central Point Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Higinbotham, Route 2, Box 68. Central Point, announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Miss Nancy Lee Higin botham, to LeRoy Asher, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Asher, Route 2, Box 160D, Central Point. Miss Higinbotham is a senior at Crater High school. Mr. Asher was graduated from Crater High school with the class of 1955 and is now employed at Farm Pack ing 'company. No wedding date has been set. Plans Announced. For Kindergarten Rogue River A group of mothers from Evans Valley and Rogue River met last Monday with Mrs. LeRoy Buck and or ganized a kindergarten for chil dren aged 4 to 6 years. It will be known as the Rogue River Co operative Kindergarden and will be conducted in the Fellowship hall back of Hope Presbyterian church. School hours will be 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Mrs. Buck will be the teacher. Any one desiring to enroll a child may contact her at Route 1, Box 240. Rogue River, or by telephone, 2-3590. The a present enrollment is 17 and up to 24 children can be accom odated under the present ar rangements. Since this is a new venture there is a lack of working ma terial such as indoor or outdoor toys, furniture, books, records and puzzles, Mrs. Buck states. Persons having any of these arti cles to donate are asked to con tact Mrs. Buck. Another meeting is planned for November 14, and anyone interested in this project will be welcome to attend. Elk-Trail PTA Adopts Budget At Last Session ; Elk-Trail Several matters of interest to Elk-Trail Parent Teachers association were trans acted during a meeting Novem ber 4 in the school cafeteria. The budget for next year was presented by Mrs. Oscar Han son and accepted. Mrs. Leroy Draper reported on a well baby clinic held at the school. Sev enth and eighth grade students have started a Christmas card sale to raise money for uniforms for the basketball team. Parents are asked to cooperate by pur chasing cards. The afternoon program was composed of songs, skits and poems presented by the second grade students under direction of their teacher, Mrs. Alice Greenley. Refreshments were served by mothers of the fifth and sixth grade and prior to the meeting children in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades introduc ed and entertained their moth ers in their classrooms. Mrs. Lee Merriman's third grade students presented "Cin derella," and fourth, fifth and sixth grades gave historical ac counts of the 15th and 16th cen tury explorers. Mrs. James Saw yer instructs fourth grade and Mrs. Arthur Moore is the teach- ed for fifth and sixth grades. Mrs. Arthur Hume, president, presided for the meeting and Mrs. Albert Johnson offered the invocation. New members were introduced by Mrs. William Wil son, hospitality chairman. Workshop Planned For Scout Leaders Wednesday at Club A workshop for Brownie Scouts and intermediate leaders of Girl Scouts will be held Wenesday, November 16 at the Girls Community club, 229 North Bartlett street. The Brownie leaders will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon and are asked to take notebooks pencils and old felt hats. The intermediate leaders are to convene at 12:30 to 2 p.m., and they should take notebooks and pencils. Work will include nature, belt and Christmas crafts for the Brownies. Leather, metal and nature crafts will be instructed for the intermediates. Those who are planning to at tend should register by tele phoning the Scout office, tele phone 2-5912, Monday, Novem ber 14. .. Miss Neumann is a student at Medford Senior High school. Mr. Prom attended Crater High school and is now employed at Double-Dee Lumber company in Central Point. No date has been set for the wedding. Dental Assistants Postpone Session; Delegates Report The November meeting of Southern Oregon Dental Assist ants society planned for Thanks giving week will be postponed, the date, place and program to be announced to members by mail, officers said last week. At a recent meeting of the so ciety held at Camp White Em ployees club, reports of a nation al convention were given by Mrs. Sybil Prescott, Grants Pass, state president. Mrs. Irene Culy, alternate delegate, spoke regarding the entertainment at the convention which included tours, luncheons, teas and a banquet that honored the na tional president, Mrs. Ruth Doring. Mrs. Marion Lusk gave a re port on table clinics some of which were put on by members of the local society. Mrs. Sybil Prescott, Mrs. Frances Demp ster and Mrs. Lucille Wilson presented a clinic entitled, "Miss Proper and Miss Improper." Mrs. Culy and Mrs. Frances Rutter, the latter president of the local group, presented the clinic, "Have You Tried This." Mothers to Hear Convention Report Mrs. Rex Note, department president of the Blue Star Moth ers of America, will give a re port of the 14th annual national convention of the group held re cently in Detroit, Mich., during a meeting of the local chapter Thursday, November 17. The session will be held at 1:30 p.m., in the Carpenters union local hall, 123 West Main street. Mrs. Carl B. Leonard, Detroit. was elected national president during the convention succeed ing Mrs. Irwin Hoffman of Co lumbus, O. Among business discussed was the fact, that the mothers plan to petition congress to amend the GI bill of rights to give In dian servicemen, whetner on reservation or off, the same ben efits other American veterans are entitled to. They endorsed a resolution to that effect. They also voted to expand the agency, fund. The fund aids vet erans hospitalized in isolated sec- rans hospitalized in isolated sec tions of the country. The broad er scope voted will cover more hospitals and give 'more service to patients. Former Resident Visits in Medford Mrs. Enola Hamilton, San Francisco, a former resident of Medford, is here visiting old friends, it was reported Satur day. Mrs. Hamilton left Medford some 35 years ago. Before that she was associated with the old Nash hotel for a number of years. Mr. Lewis, who recently re turned rom serving with the U.S. Army in Europe, is now attend ing Walla Walla college in Wash ington, and is majoring m biology. The wedding date has been set for June. Meetings of Circles On New Schedules Circle meetings of the First Christian church have been changed and the new schedules were announced last week. Circle 1 members will meet Tuesday, November 15 at 10 a.m at the home of Mrs. Carl Pear son, 118 Clark street, when a covered dish luncheon will be served. Circles 2 and 6 are to meet in Fellowship hall at 10 a.m Tuesday, to quilt. A covered dish noon luncheon will be served. Those who work in Circle 4 will meet with Mrs. J. T. Davis, 1112 East Main street, for a 1 p.m. dessert luncheon Tuesday with Mrs. Laura Walters as co hostess. Circle 3 will meet Thursday, iNovemDer n wim Mrs. a. Camp, Auxiliary To Meet Sunday; Attend Ceremony Colonel Sargent camp and auxiliary, United Spanish War Veterans, will hold their meet ings and a potluck dinner at 1 p.m. at the Redman hall Sun day, November 20. Mrs. Frank Widner will be in charge of the dinner. A delegation from Colonel Sargent auxiliary attended in stallation of officers of Rogue River auxiliary in Grants Pass Sunday, November 6. The de partment president, Mrs. Millie Schweitering, Eugene, made her official visit at that time and installed the officers. Mrs. Kath ryn Sweetland is the new presi Miss Trowbridge Named to Office Miss Tanya Trowbridge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben J. Trowbridge, 1625 East Main street, Medford, has been elected president of the pledge class of Gamma Phi Beta, national social sorority, at Arizona State Col lege at Tempe, it was announced today. A junior at Arizona State col lege, Miss Trowbridge is major ing in elementary education in the College of Education. She was graduated from Medford Senior High school in 1952. - Luncheon Planned For Electa Club Electa Social club members will be guests of Reames Social club for a luncheon planned for Wednesday, November 16. at Medford Masonic temple. Lunch eon will be served at 12 o'clock with cards to follow. State Officers Of Two Groups Guests in City Forty-six members of the Dis abled American Veterans and auxiliary, Jackson County Unit 8, attended a dinner at the Cen tral Point Grange hall, Tuesday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Brewster, state com manders of the chapter and auxiliary. Other guests present were Mrs. Thomas McEwen, com mander of Unit 11, Grants Pass auxiliary; Gerald S. Kelsey, state service officer; Baden Rob inson, commander District 5; and Mrs. George Simmons, com mander District 5 auxiliary. Mrs. E. M. Patton led in group singing. Mrs. . Brewster reported on the national commanders' and adjutants' conference held in Colorado Springs. This year a Mae Holmes trophy will be giv en to the unit which most com pletely covers the program out lined by national with 100 per cent activity in all phases of the program. Mrs. Brewster said that November 20-26 will be "Know Your America" week Mr. Brewster and Gerald Kel sey spoke on membership and legislation, and Mr. Brewster stressed the need for an effec tive legislative plan. 1 Women of Moose Hold Initiation; Member Honored Women of the Moose held ini tiation Wednesday at the Moose hall, 11 South Newtown street at which three new members were taken into the lodge. Mrs. Eldridge received the "green beanie," one of the degrees of honor of the auxiliary. . Miss Irene Williams College Students Engaged to Wed Mr. and Mrs. John F. Williams, 121 Ashland avenue, announce the engagement of their daugh ter, Miss Irene Ann Williams, to Harold Dewane Bruner, San Jose, Calif. Miss Williams was graduated from Medford High school with the class of 1951 and then at tended San Jose State college. She is now employed at a doc tor's clinic in San Jose and at tends college part time. Mr. Bruner is also a student at San Jose State college. The wedding will be an event of January 28 in First Methodist church. Medford. Mrs. E. P. Vilas and daughter. Mrs. David Holmes, are expect ed to arrive home the first of the week after being in Bakers field, Calif., to visit another daughter of Mrs. Vilas, Mirs Catherine Vilas. The latter is a kindergarten, teacher in the Cal ifornia city. They were accompanied south by Mrs. Vilas' mother, Mrs. F. K. Deuel, who is in Los Angeles visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kra mer Deuel. She will return here soon accompanied by the couple who plan to remain for some time.
