crest orchards, Thursday eve
ning, November 10, at 7:30 p.m.

will be in charge of Mrs. Bertha
Haskins, Altrusa information
chairman. Mrs. Maude Codding,
president, has. designated this
evening as guest night and the
hostesses will be Mrs. Frances
Grant and Mrs. Daly.
The vocational project com
mittee in charge of the vocation
al training grant of S250 recent
ly announced by the club will
meet at the home of the chair
man, Mrs. Enid Rankin Tuesday
evening, November 3, to discuss
plans for its disbursement.
Members of the committee are
Mrs. Bereth Hopkins, Mrs. Hel
en Rutter, Mrs. Virginia Sher
wood, Mrs. Francis Grant, Mrs.
Maisie Daly, Mrs. Betty Flan
nery, Mrs. Judie Stoll, Miss Lo
tus Eaton and Miss Grace-Smith.
Women who wish to apply for
this grant may contact any of
the committee for further infor
mation. The purpose of giving
the grant :s to aid older women
who find they must earn their
living after several years of ab
sence from the labor market,
and who need financial help in
securing the schooling necessary
to fit themselves for employ
ment. According to statistics
from the United States Labor
bureau, women at the early age
of 35 find employment barriers
existing in many fields of work.
To overcome these women must
show complete and recent train
ing to employers who have
prejudices when experience has
been found to be not recent
enough.
Applications for this grant are
already being received by the
committee, and members urge
everyone to pass on the informa
tion to those they think might
benefit from such a grant. All
applications will be handled
confidentially. The decisions
will not be made by the com
mittee until after December 1,
deadline for applications. Re
quests for applications can be
given to Mrs. Enid Rankin, 18
Richmond avenue, telephone
2-8443, to Mrs. Maud Codding,
1015 Queen Anne avenue, or to
any member of the committee
or the Altrusa club.
