o e Quotes From the News Pumpkin Center, S. D. XT.PJ Mri. Francis Drake on the pass ing of the old-fashioned Halloween: "The kids don't tip over outhoueeg any more I suppose because there aren't any to tip over." Pendleton, Ore. U.PJ Sen. Wayne More (D-Ore.) urging restoration of fixed patity support for major U. S. crops: "We cannot permit farm prices to continue this one way ride in the wrong direction." San Francisco U.R) Army Chief of Staff Maxwell D. Taylor, on retiring Maj. Gen. William F. Dean, the hero of Taejon in the Korean war: "He is one ot America's great heros. He symbolizes a great epsiode in the Army's history." New York flJ.P.) Gloria Vanderbilt, newly-divorced from con ductor Leopold Slokowski, on reports of her romance with crooner Frank Sinatra: "We are just good friends ... there i no romance in my life. My two interests now are first, my children, and then my career." Geneva U.P.) Secretary of State John Foster Dulles on the need for removal of information, cultural and trade barriers exist ing between Russia and the United States: "We raust break at some point a vicious circle in which lack of freedom in communications and the absence of normal trade relations and personal contacts lead to further misunderstanding between peoples and increased tension." ; Washington U.r!) Washington Redskins' Coach Joe Kuharich on his team's Sunday game against the New York Giants: "We gained over 400 yards, let them cross midfield only once in the entire first half, pi eyed our best game of the year offen sively, and lost. 35-7." On The Side (Distributed by King There is no scarcity of talent at nresent. What is scarce are execu tives who can recognize talent when thev come in contact with it. Bill Curley, the much be loved and brilliant newspaper executive, was one of the great est spotters of talent in journal istic history. He rescued many a fellow from oblivion. Of course Bill himself had been discovered by the greatest of all newspaper talent scouts, William Randolph Hearst. If you believe you have unusual talent in any activit; look around for an executive in vour chosen field who has a reputation for discovering and developing talent. If you are at present working for an executive you think lacks what it takes to recognize talent, start looking for another job. I will treat fur ther with this all important fac tor in every young fellow's life in a later issue. So They Say The British Princess Margaret, familiarly referred t as Meg, was born on August 22. That makes her a Leo woman. Leo women have a tendency to make the wrong choice the first time they marry. Many of them mar ry twice. Some make even more trips to the altar than that be fore they find the right man. Or so say the stargazers. (Note Myrna Loy, celebrated for her portrayal of "perfect wife" types in the films, was born un- j der Leo. Myrna has been mar ried four times.) Passing By Don Ameche. Highly talented thespian. Now starring in the smash hit musical "Silk Stock ings." Don is one of the world's youngest looking fathers of six children. The happy half dozen Ameche youngsters are named Donny, Ronnie, Tommy, Lonny, Bonnie and Connie. Asking Queries from clients. Q Are you familiar with a song titled "When Polly Walks Through the Hollyhocks With Me"? A. Never heard of it. . . Q. My wife is five feet seven in her nylons, weighs 136 and has these measurements: Bust, 36; waist, 26, and hips, 39. It is the hip measurement that makes me Worries beconts less fssrsome Within tba walls of God's House, worries which loomed large outside, become less fearsome. If this alone were the reward of faith, it would be enough. But there is more. Faith is a source of strength, a reservoir of power that helps you meet the needs of every day. By wor shiping with your family each week, you're giving them a measure of security no amount of money could buy. The faith to hope ... to grow ... to live by. You may have to take her to one of those hip clipping experts who guar antee to take from two to four inches off the hips. In the mean while have her roll on the floor 15 minutes daily. That may take something off. Brides from Britain Men of the United States armed forces stationed in Great Britain continue to be charmed by the English girls. GI Joes are marrying English girls at the rate of 250 a month. These unions are not a case of marry ing in haste. United States Army regulations covering our armed forces abroad do not permit that. All marriages planned by United States Army men have to be thoroughly screened before the ceremony takes place. No sol dier may marry without permis sion of his group commander. Before that permission is given, the prospective bride must satis factorily answer 50 questions. The soldier must answer 70. Test Does your wife know a fresh egg test? If not, here's one. Put two ounces of salt in glass of water. Put the egg in the glass. If it rises slightly it is about two days old. If it rises half way it is three days old. If it rises to the top it is an ancient egg. Far from fresh. Another thing to remember is that if an egg doesn't poach well it is probably very stale. Fancy Fight Club London's National Sporting Club, where evening dress is obligatory for those attending the boxing bouts, is active again. In the past many great ringmen battled at this club. Among them were Packey McFarland and Mickey Walker. Also Fred die Welsh, the valiant vege terian. Worry Said Mark Of Healthy Mind San . Francisco (U.R) A Beverly Hills psychiatrist says you may be crazy if you don't worry. Dr. Judd Marmor told a meet ing of psychiatrists that "realis tic worry in the face of danger or distress is the mark of a healthy mind." "Contrary to the theme of pop ular writings on the subject which advocate elimination of worry, psychiatrists know that on that pathway lies madness." Marmor discussed the subject of worry before the first west ern divisional meeting of the American Psychiatric Associa tion, which ended a four-day meeting yesterday. A "realistic worry," he said, must have some solid basis in fact and result in "realistic ac tion" either physical or mental. He said it differs from anxiety, which is an emotional rather than an intellectual response.
