During the past three months, a total of 1,906 volumes have been added, of which 711 were donated books, which are deeply appreciated. We wish it were posside to publish an acknowl edgement f each gift book by title and donor, but the sheer number makes this impossible. The library wishes to assure its friends that every one has been gratefully received. Junior and Adult Of the 1,024 books added dur ing the past month, about half were for the junior department and the rest for the adult depart ment. For the junior division, there were 485 books, and 539 for the adults. Of the latter, 208 volumes were transferred from the rental department, where they have served their terms, to the free collection. There are 366 new titles in the adult list, and the rest are duplicate copies pur chased for rotation among the 10 branches of the library through out the county. Any title in the library, whether or not duplicate copies and other medical men to join the staff of a training school be cause they prefer to be con nected with a recognized state hospital. Deputy State Prison Warden R. L. Barnes said that out of a population of 1500, 242 men were listed as sex deviates. Only part time psychiatrist service is available to the state prison, he said. Comment On By HARMAN United Pros Washington (U.R) A dog's life isnt' too tough if the-task force ahead of you has seven tons of dog food. That's what thirty dogs have to look forward to during the Navy's trip to the Antarc tic, which gets 'A I under way in y f ' I a few days. HarmanNichoi. o the trip has to do with things like looking over the ter rain and plotting air strips and places to hide in case of any trouble ever develops in that far-away area. Mere man, and there are a lot of them, will have to bundle up like crazy to face the bitter cold which sometimes gets down around 40 to 60 degrees below zero. Dogs on Stand-By The dogs, wearing their own fur coats, have little to worry about. First off they are on a stand-by, the trained Alaskan Huskies and Siberian Male mutes. According to' the Navy, all are next-to-next-to-next-of-kin to the pups Admiral Byrd took to the Antarctic in the .. way back. - T-Sgt. Young Tom is a young bride-groom, but the Navy is the Navy. Dressed for Job Our lad, a tall, muscular youngster is leaving dressed for his jobl He also knows that his pups won't have to go to work unless- there is trouble, which everybody, including the pups hope won't happen. Tom's biggest worry, though, over the long haul is - whether there will be enough dog food to go around even with the ex ercise ' of airlifts to parachute the dogs down with supplies for the weary. "Doggone," Tom complained. "You give me eight lady dogs and 22 males. What happens if the population gets out of hand?" The Navy has. no answer to that. That's the sergeant's worry. They told Tom to go about his business. And that's what the sailor is doing, under orders. Leaving his own personal prob lems behind. Los Angeles U.R) Sen.
