r Monday, October 24, 1955 MEDFORD (OREGON) MAIL TRIBUNE THRE Princess Margaret's Love-or-IDuty Decision Expected Within Next 48 Hours O Parliament Meets Tuesday, Question On Romance Slated London (U.R) Expectation grew today that Princess Mar garet would make public within 48 hours her love-or-duty decis ion on Peter Townsend and put an end to what a British editor bitingly called a "royal soap opera." Margaret returned to Clarence House in London at noon from a week end at Windsor castle. Queen Mother Elizabeth return ed from Hertfordshire 15 min utes earlier. She left 25 minutes after Margaret arrived. Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh went directly to Buckingham palace from Wind sor, where Margaret was report ed to have prayed for guidance in the royal chapel and to have met with her sister for a soul searching talk on her future and the RAF group captain. Cabinet Meeting Set., - Prime Minister Anthony Eden returned to No. 10 Downing st. from a week end at Chequers, his official county residence. To morrow morning he will preside at a possibly fateful Cabinet meeting shortly . before Parlia ment reassembles. Parliament meets Tuesday and a question about the romance is on the first day's agenda. There was no advance guidance whether Prime Minister An thony Eden would answer or whether a palace announcement would answer it for him. But it appeared likely that Margaret may havi already de cided between "yes" and "no" in the 11 davs of bold headlines and editorials now petulantly de manding an official announce ment. The growing tempo of criticism of the official silence strengthened the likelihood of an official statement. Year's Notice 1 The key question was posed In Parliament by Laborite Mar cus Upton who asked Eden "whether he will introduce leg islation to repeal or amend the Royal Marriage Act of 1772" the act requiring Margaret to give a year's notice to Parlia ment' before marrying without the Queen's consent. Townsend and Margaret last met "late Saturday before the jwincess left Clarence House for Windsor. He remained at his London apartment all day Sun day, wandering outdoors in the rain only long enough to mail a letter. . ' ; The reference to a "royal soap opera," came from Malcolm Muggeridge, editor of the maga rine Punch, writing in the left wing "New Statesman." I'm tickled pink with the smart way my Carol handles her house work. Take wood floors for instance. Most gals complain about all that scrubbing and waxing. But not my Carol! She cleans and waxes them in one easy operation with Bruce Cleaning Wax. It takes her half the time and a lot less elbow grease. And we've yet to have a guest who hasn't commented on our beautiful wood floors. My Carol and her Bruce Cleaning Wax really make easy work of a hard job. I'm mighty pleased with both of them. P.S. For lighter n axing on linoleum and wood, Carol uses Bruce Floor Cleaner. aninqWia p,,i..-tf..j HONORED FOR distinguished service membership in National Republican Club, California Governor Goodwin Knight (left) is presented with silver certificate at club headquarters in New York. (U.R) When a col lege boy talks about finance, he's usually thinking more of floating a loan for next Satur day's date than of investing in stocks and securities. But the young men at Gannon College here really know about such things as blue chip stocks, prospecti and debentures due to a program instituted by Edward Lamb, publisher of the Erie Dis patch and owner of radio and television stations. ; Five years ago. Lamb set up a Student Investment Fund with the first of four $2,500 contribu tions. He stipulated that the money was to be used to teach students how to study prospec tive investments, report on their research and eventually make actual investments. , Any profits the students made in carrying out the' program were to go to the endowment for Gannon. - Lamb, made the last of . the 2,500 contributions last spring, and although that final sum has not yet matured in investment, the S7.500 he gave earlier has grown to $12,260. The students make the actual investments. Two faeulty mem bers act merely as technical ad visers. The students hold weekly meetings to discuss detailed re ports on various stocks , and promising business ventures. Then they vote on whether to buy or 'sell any of the particular slocks under discussion. After that, another meeting is held to determine the number of shares to be bought or sold. , When the final decision is reached, a delegation goes to a broker's office here in Erie to make the transaction. The students aren't trying to make a killing. - "The purpose of this fund is not to see how much money the students can make, but to give them practical experience in the investment field," said the Rev. Thomas Griffin, one of the fac ulty advisers. Puerto Rico is about three times -the size of Rhode Island..
